Multiple rolls ordered different thickness :(
I have ordered 3 rolls of this I got my last roll today and what a difference this roll was compared to the other 2. It’s thicker and let’s no light in where the other rolls of the same stuff let the light in. I’m not happy that I received thin stuff the first 2 orders and now I get one roll that is truly black out. Why did that happen? I can’t return the first two I already cut them and put them up. Look at the picture I submitted that’s crazy how one is solid black and the other is letting light in.

If you want true blackout, order 23” not 36”, they’re different.
If you want super blackout, order the 23” kind, not the 36” kind. I don’t know if they’re different thickness or what, but the smaller roll is MUCH better at blocking light than the larger roll. The 36” looks brown on the window and lets some light through. The 23” blocks it. Hope this helps.

Easy to install and keeps the sun out too!
I actually purchased this for my bedroom window because my husband works shift work and sometimes sleeps for his night after 12pm and he hated how much light came in before this. I've tried blackout curtains and it still didn't completely eliminated the really bright sun just before sunset that shines directly into this window everyday. I was pleased to see that this really was blackout film and you can't see anything in or out. We had no issues installing, but my husband has some tint experience and that may have helped. It's been up about 10 days now and I'm still just as happy. I plan to purchase more so I can do my garage door windows, my husband keeps all his tools in there and has a lot invested into them so we wanted to make it harder for someone if they did try to look and/or enter it to get whatever they feel like getting.

Install is tricky
As you can see, it's not "completely" black. Actually more brown. That is sunlight, thru solar screen, before hitting the film. The shade on the right is from a tree. So while it does stop a lot of light, you won't be developing film with this "black out" level. Once you turn the inside lights on, the film appears completely black, with no hint of brown. The inside surface is a textured matte finish. I can certainly agree with other reviewers in that this stuff is very difficult to trim. Find the sharpest exacto blade you can. I think the key may be to wait until the soapy water is pretty much dried up and then try to trim it, but I was always in a rush, so I cut them wet. In this case, the film stretches and bundles up ahead of the blade, making the cut very uneven. You have stringers from the cut which adhere ridiculously well, and want to peel the film back off the window as you pull on them. You really have to cut 100% thru the entire trimmed piece to get it to come off. The backing film is also very difficult to start to separate from the film. I advise you to get a window squeegee and use it to smooth out the bubbles as you go along. That was very helpful. I had one with a thick but very short (so stiff) rubber strip in it which worked well. Be careful not to pull too hard as you install, as you can slide the film away from your edges without realizing it.

Blackout product brightens my mood!
Certainly beats the look of aluminum foil! With rotating shifts in my household, I get tired of a window always being covered. That said, have you priced aluminum foil lately? Recommended by a friend, this privacy film solves several issues. It installs easy and can be removed when I want without the cost of repurchasing a product. Did I mention it’s reusable?! Keeping the room dark and allowing me the option of bringing it back to life has definitely brightened my mood!

Makes the window disappear!
Our bedroom gets a ton of sun - looks great but not conducive to daytime sleep for the night worker in the family. I hung blackout curtains on the standard size windows but didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars to cover the arched/half moon/eyebrow window right over the bed so I got this stuff. Man, does it block light! It doesn't look that great, especially if your cuts aren't very accurate, so I personally wouldn't use it on a front-facing window but our window is along the driveway so we're the only people who can see it from the outside. It also doesn't look great from the inside so I'm going to put one of those inexpensive paper fan window treatments to hide it. Be sure you have a SHARP cutting implement. I used a utility knife with a fresh blade.

Black as midnight!
I got lucky and mine came black as midnight. I read some reviews where they came in lighter shades. The one thing I regret was some gaps around the edge. Carefully trim away the excess. But there is a screen over it in my window so you can't see the edges unless you get right up on them. I have a 3 foot wide roll out window in the bath that illuminates the whole bedroom and my bf has problems sleeping if any light comes in. This does the job. His sleep has been bad for a while now, so sleeping in just got easier.
