Fun compared to other options
Part of this book is out of date, but nothing critical. I have learned so much, and I'm halfway through. I'm looking forward to the other books in the series to continue learning. A true beginner can use this. I usually struggle to focus with textbooks, but this really is designed for the way adults learn. I just wish I hadn't wasted time with other books before finding this one. Things I had to figure out due to the age of the book: Windows 10 does have Notepad, but you have to search for it, it wasn't in my Start menu but it is included. You will need files to do the activities in the book. The authors created a website with the files. Their website doesn't have all of the files anymore, but there is a link to a GitHub site (it's okay if you have no idea what that is). The GitHub site has so far had all the files I've needed, all organized exactly the way the book says it will be organized. The w3schools link for the html tags has changed to html_entities.asp. If you don't have any Adobe products, paint.net is free and very easy to resize images. I'm sure there will be more minor issues as technology changes, but I have been able to figure out everything I needed with a simple internet search. Don't be intimidated, the information is still relevant and incredibly helpful if you're just getting started.

Their teaching style really works! I'm usually self-taught, but they do a better job teaching me than I do myself!
I feel kind of overwhelmed by all the other good reviews and rarely write one myself, but I wanted to just thank the authors for helping me pull together a LOT of bits and pieces I had learned about over a number of years. I'm not into professionally designing websites or programming these days (the last time I really wrote programming was for an Apple II+!), but I want to do some things for my own website I haven't been able to get others to understand. I don't know if I can't explain what I want well enough or if they don't get it, but I finally decided to dive into the HTML programming for myself. Several years ago I started the wrong way around by getting a book on CSS before I understood HTML and picked up some useful information and by asking questions and looking at HTML from actual websites I was able to teach myself some of the language and put it together, but I was never confident about it and I didn't know how to determine if I had the correct syntax or other parameters. I'm only about half way through the book, but already I've seen a lot of what I did know pulled together and explained in a way that I really remember and can go back and use without constantly referring to the book. In fact I've started reworking a website I tried to set up several years ago and I've made more progress in about a week than I made in 6 months before! The takeaway for me is that it REALLY is important to do the exercises and finish each of the puzzles whether they seem simple or not. I don't know why it works, but for me it has put all the pieces I already knew into a greater whole that I can remember and use. I don't know what I'll tackle next, but I'm pretty sure I'll start with a Head First book!

Makes HTML Fun
It is as if a technical manual and Christopher Moore had a baby. It is fun to read and quick to learn. I was making rudimentary web pages in just a couple of days. I had absolutely no previous experience with HTML at all before picking this book up. My experience with webpages and blogging were limited to the free subscription to Wordpress. Now I am about 1/4 of the way into the book and already have a website that I built myself running through a hosting company and up on the web for the world to see. Each day, I learn a little something new and am able to apply it immediately. It is exciting and fun! Even though they say you can go through the entire book without getting a hosting company, I strongly suggest you make the effort necessary to get hooked up to the internet. The lessons come fast and are easy to comprehend and put to action BUT I find it vital to practice each lesson on my own to memorize them thoroughly. That is done by playing with my own website, building different parts of it according to what I am learning in the book. This is where most of my time is spent. Getting MY OWN work loaded up onto my own hosting server then being able to get online and see MY site, written completely from scratch by me is unbelievably satisfying. I am sure that I will be buying other books to get a deeper knowledge of HTML and CSS but this book has completely removed any doubts of my ability to do this. I CAN WRITE HTML and CSS! Very cool!

The format of any of the Head First series of books is outstanding. I love it but others may find it too humorous for learning material. We all learn differently and from time to time we need to learn in a different manner and these series of books do just that. Its playful BUT absolutely structured and informative with the right amount of exercises, quizzes and examples to practice with. One size doesn't fit all but this series fits me and I find myself looking at what else they teach that I would buy their book just to learn it in their fashion. Try it out - what has you got to loose !!

Ce livre est une excellente méthode d'apprentissage. Je n'y connaissais rien, et en un chapitre j'ai pu démystifier tout ça et surtout mettre directement en pratique. Merci Head First, et merci Amazon pour la rapidité de livraison.

I've been searching for a good HTML and CSS since long time. There are plenty available in the market and also on the internet and i went through most of them but though the subject looks simple and obvious, while implementing i used to feel like i'm not comfortable with the subject. When i almost decided that this particular subject is not my cup of tea, i found this great book. It taught me how to learn HTML & CSS. It excited me so much that i could not stop reading it till i complete it within few days (of course including the exercises given in the book). Get a copy of yours today and start reading it. You will know, what i told about the book here is very very less.
