Buy The Right Dog for You: How to choose the perfect breed for you and your family on desertcart.com โ FREE SHIPPING on qualified orders Review: Thorough! - I've been considering whether I should have a dog or not, and this will help me decide what kind and if I should get a dog at all. If you're thinking of getting a dog, or if you're just interested in leaning about various breeds, this is one of the best books I've found on the topic. This is by no means a complete list. The focus is mainly on midsize and smaller breeds and doesn't include some of the larger breeds such as the Great Dane or a Russian Wolfhound, though the Saint Bernard is represented. The author provides all the essential basic information one would need to narrow the choice of breed or type of breed. The photography is clear and functional in terms of seeing a typical dog of each breed, generally giving enough information to know how each would fare in a family setting, ideal amount exercise, and of course typical size and weight. Each is shown in "mug shots"โone straight on and one in profile. The bigger question these days is where and how to find the dog of one's choice. Review: Not the best guide - 'The Right Dog for You' is a basic guide on what would be the best dog breed for you. I was not overall impressed and have read better alternatives. This book is paperback with decently thick pages. The text is small, in my opinion, and makes it difficult to read (I don't have vision issues). It was extremely difficult to read about the individual breeds as the small text is printed on a graph chart. The information provided is mostly true but lacks specific details. The layout is by the size of the dog starting with small going up to large. I did notice quite a few dog breeds that were not mentioned. I appreciated the real dog images, however, to give you an idea of what the specific breed normally looks like. Overall, it was okay to read once, but I would not fully rely on this guide.

Very organized and easy to compare
Very informative book. I love the format of the book. It is composed in a way that you can easily compare different breeds quickly. It gives you a front and side view of each breed. It lets you know how good they are with kids, grooming requirements, how much food they eat. It gives a brief breed history, information about their personality, health issues, some breed tidbits, and breed standards. It shows a picture of the dog size beside a person for comparison as well. Itโs a whole lot of information in a very organized manner. Itโs a great book and very informative. We have a rare breed and she was in there as well. I am sure itโs not all the breeds and cross breeds, but I couldnโt pick one out that was missing. I would recommend the book.

Great reference book on dog breeds
I love this book. We have 3 different breeds of dogs at home and this is a great quick reference on breed types. Giving you a general information on personality, health care, and as an owner. My kids love to read through this book and identify different breeds of dogs and its amazing for them to come home after an outing seeing a dog and trying to find the breed in the book. I feel this would be a great book for someone that doesn't have an experience with a certain breed gather info for a choice to adopt or for someone just to learn the dog breeds.

This really does help match you to the right breed!
We used an earlier edition of this book to choose the breed of our last dog, and I'm really happy to see that it has been updated and republished. She was a breed none of us had ever heard of, and turned out to be absolutely the perfect dog for us in every way, suiting our lifestyle, personalities, and just a joy. Combine this with finding a responsible and knowledgeable breeder, and you should do well in your search for the right dog. Thank you for reading my review. I hope you found it helpful.

Background hash/color on the left pages made the text hard (close to impossible) to read
This "The Right Dog for You" book is a good but basic overview of dog breeds book, but there is a serious issue that make it difficult for me to read and like this book. First of all, the background hashing/lines/color of each of the breed's page make it difficult to read. The dark hash background kind of fuse and interfere with the text, giving me a headache when I am trying to "read" the text. It is very difficult for me to enjoy the book. Now, onto the content, the information included are very basic, it is kind of nice for kids to flip thru the book, and look at all the different breeds. The organization is kind of confusing, I was expecting an alphabetical ordering of breeds, but it is not. It also missing quite some breeds too, for example, I couldn't find my favorite breed - the American Eskimo. It also lacks some important info too, like medical concerns or odor. Thank you for reading this review, I hoped that this review & the pictures are helpful to you in support of your purchase decision.

Breed book
Very nicely made book. I have Standard Poodles and I need to point out that the book has it wrong. It says they dont shed, but any poodle owner will roll their eyes when they hear that. Because poodles most certainly DO shed. It comes out looking like tumbleweeds. I don't notice it with my cream female, but my black pups yes, definitely. I understand that this sounds like such a small issue. But I breed, too, and all too often people come to me having heard the myth that my breed is hypoallergenic and shedless and it just isn't true. Sure they're not big shedders like a lab. And yes they CAN BE better for people with allergies but that doesn't mean they WILL BE. Some dogs including poodles produce more dander than others. When people believe one thing only to get the dog home and realize it's not what they thought, well that's how some pets can end up in shelters. So, I hope that is changed in the book. Otherwise, this is a nice book with a small blurb about the characteristics of each listed breed alongside a photo of the breed.

Handy Reference Book
It's a handy reference book for a family thinking about having a dog. When a child brings up the topic, have them read the book first before going to any human society. We don't have a dog yet, but the information in the book seems to be helpful. We learn many dog breeds and can recognize them from friends and family's dogs.
