This cutting board is exceptionally sturdy and, with proper care, it is sure to provide decades of use. The surface is smooth, and the color of the black walnut wood is truly gorgeous. The cutting board is highly functional, featuring a well-designed liquid-capturing channel that surrounds the entire board. The corners are smoothly finished with square edges. Its light weight makes it easy for anyone to handle. The size we purchased is perfectly sufficient for our needs, and it is also available in larger sizes. The care instructions included in the package are very helpful. I would highly recommend this product to anyone seeking a high-quality, non-toxic cutting board.

I want to preface this review by saying how much I really wanted to love this board. It's beautiful once it is seasoned and the size is perfect having a large area to work on, whether for prep work, dough kneading, or even carving meat. However, the production quality really soured the experience for me. Once I did have the board seasoned (and I seasoned it, both sides, multiple times over several days using Boos Mystery Oil and Wood Cream) the issues quickly became apparent. As noted in another review, the juice grooves are not sanded. This wasn't a deal-breaker for me. What was a deal-breaker is that right after the first use, the surface of the board started splintering. I was wiping off tons of fibers from the surface just drying the thing. Those fibers would have easily made it into food if I hadn't done something about it. That was annoying but I figured it was a good opportunity to get some sandpaper and smooth out the groove and edges. I sanded down the surface with 220 grit sandpaper, reseasoned it, and the same thing happened two washes later. I figured maybe I hadn't done enough, and proceed to sand and season it yet again. The board was fine for about 3 uses this time until it started to offer more splinters while being dried off. On top of that, despite having hand-dried it every time I used it, it started warping after two weeks of use. The board will not sit flush with my counter and rocks while it is being used. I initiated a return thinking I had just received a bad sample. It happens, right? I can't fault the company for a bad unit, it's the nature of production. The second board I received was shipped alone in a box with some packing paper on one side of the box (whereas the first was shipped within its own Virginia Boys box and had some paperwork). Right as I took off the wrapping, I immediately noticed several gouges on the board and a crack running over an inch on the bottom. Like I said before, I really wanted to love this board and I was excited to have it in my kitchen. However, the following weeks of use and inconsistency in quality across the boards were major letdowns. Maybe I'm unlucky and got two bad examples, but I am disappointed, to say the least.

Great cutting board with beautiful surface and obviously built by professionals. It may cost a little more but the quality speaks for its self!

Update - I'm leaving my initial review below, but a few months ago VBK support had reached out to me after I had submitted a help request and they have replaced the cutting board and I haven't had a problem since. It will require some more effort to condition the board since it's not as dense or naturally oily like teak, but once it has been well seasoned, it'll be just like any other wood cutting board in the pantry needing occasional conditioning. The replacement board had a finer finish so I didn't have to do any sanding on any of the edges, glad to see they're improving their production. Support was also very engaged and made sure I was taken care of. I'll gladly be purchasing from them again. --- Initial review - I was looking for a board that was produced domestically and I thought I had found the answer. The dimensions were perfect and it seemed like it was a decently crafted piece. Parts of the board seemed a little less finished, the juice channel and one outer edge was rough and needed to be sanded down with a higher grit sandpaper. The initial 7 day oil priming wasn't ideal but also not a big deal. But after a little over a month of use, I noticed it started to slide on the countertop. Looking closely, it was starting to warp. It had never sat in water, or had ever been submerged. I conditioned the board with their branded oil weekly and a few days later it just completely warped, twisted so that only 2 opposite corners would touch the counter top. Absolutely floored that something this expensive couldn't even make through a year. I have inexpensive box store boards that I've had for nearly 2 decades without needing anything more than maybe an annual oil conditioning. Really wanted to support something that is American made, and I still will, just not VBK products.

Quality is exceptional. You get what you pay for from this company. This cutting board and cleaning supplies was a gift for a friend who wanted only a walnut product. It should last for years; if properly cared for. Craftsmanship is incredible with beautiful wood.

High-quality medium size board arrived in perfect condition. I can tell a huge difference in cutting compared to my other cheaper boards. I ordered a second one board to use for larger meals. I like the weight and that it is easy to store. This is made in the USA and customer service is excellent.
