Indie Boards and Cards Coup & Reformation Kickstarter Edition

Coup is a gem of a game. It's quick and easy for almost anyone to pick up, and revolves around simple but fun strategy and bluffing, usually played out over several rounds that last a few minutes each. Players draw from a small deck of character cards and use the characters they have (or maybe they don't?) to quickly eliminate their opponents. If you enjoy Love Letter you will probably like this game, and vice versa. I received the original version as a gift, and my friends and I enjoyed it so much that I started backing Indie Boards & Cards' other games on Kickstarter, and decided to pick this up on Amazon, having missed the campaign. It adds an alternate character, alternate art for all characters, an optional set of faction cards (best in bigger groups), and foil money tokens to the base game, all in a very nice special edition box. I am very satisfied with the purchase, being a big fan of dystopian and cyberpunk themes, and I would recommend this edition to anyone with similar tastes or looking for the premium edition of this great little game. If you have a more casual interest in board/card games then you should probably get the standard version of Coup and save yourself some money, it's quite good on its own.

If I can give 0 stars, I would! I was so excited when I heard that there were extra copies of Kickstarter Edition for Coup & Reformation being sold on Amazon. I own the base game Coup and its expansion Reformation already, and my friends and I love playing this game all the time! So I wanted to buy this one for the alternative art cards for Coup and Reformation and the gold foil coins. But when I received my order a few days ago, it was only the Reformation Kickstarter Edition, and it didn't contain any of the Coup Kickstarter items. I asked for a replacement, hoping it was only a one time mistake.HOWEVER, I got the replacement today, AND it was still not the Coup & Reformation Kickstarter Edition. It was only the Reformation Kickstarter Edition and contained none of the Coup Kickstarter items, such as the alternative art cards and silver foil coins. After this, I just gave up and lost all hope. I was so looking forward to playing with the alternative art cards, but I guess it won't happen.Don't get me wrong though, this game is still one of the best games I have played! But I just wish I got the item I actually ordered. If anyone just wants the Reformation Kickstarter Edition, they have it for sale too on Amazon for $20. Just go order that one. This is essentially a $40 Reformation Kickstarter Edition.

I was a little nervous in purchasing the game since I saw some reviews where customers received the expansion only. Whole point of my buying Coup & Reformation Kickstarter was that I wanted the alternative art and needed the backs of the cards to be uniform in color. The friends I play with are super competitive and observant, so if the card's backs are slightly off-color, you'd bet they'd use it to their advantage in eliminating possibilities. Myself included. So, totally willing to pay extra for what I want to keep the game fun and challenging.Got the right one and was thrilled until I realized that in my game, I only had 5 of the gold foil coins instead of 10 as was listed in the game's rule book. Not sure how this will effect the game when I end up playing it with 10 people, but I suppose I could just grab all of coins from my regular Coup and add it to the pile if more money is needed. Overall happy with just a tinge of disappointment.Oh well, I'm counting myself lucky that I got 90% of what I was hoping to buy.

The game overall adds a nice new depth to the original. The box and original art is worth the extra money for the kick-starter edition. In this addition, you also receive gold tokens worth 5 regular tokens from the original, which you don't get in the non-kick starter edition.Took away a couple stars due to the cards coming improperly cut. Some of the cards (mainly the captain cards) came with the backs off center. This wouldn't be too big of a deal if they weren't mostly the same card, giving other players the opportunity to know what cards are in play.

If you want support for up to ten players AND unique artwork for every role (five portraits for each role) this is the way to go! Some of the extra inquisitor portraits are pretty similar and unattractive, and some portraits overall look lower quality (muddier artwork), but I still really like them. Add in the allegiances and rule cards for three ways to play (original to most complex), and this is the definitive set of Coup. So happy IBC let's you get this after the Kickstarter.

Amazing! Love the game so I decided to get this copy for the alternate art. Not only do they provide the alternate cards, but a whole non-alternate set as well (enough to make a whole second set of Coup, if you happen to have tokens lying around.)

An excellent expansion for a great game! The box is sized right to hold all the cards from Coup and this one when they are sleeved. It is a party game, right? 65mm x 100mm if you are interested. Enjoy!

Coup is super fun, and Reformation brings a fresh way to play the game that doesn't feel unnecessary or bloated. To note though, games can go a bit longer, but that's not necessarily a negative, just be aware of what you're in the mood for/want to play. The new card arts are incentive enough to get this if you already love the game.
