Why is my 512 stick only 460gb?

You never get the full amount with any external memory/drives. Right click and go to properties and look there to see what it is saying, also there might be recovery files from the supplier on there ? Also have you tried formatting the drive to see if that makes a difference ? If your still stuck maybe send back for a replacement or advice from supplier. I hope this helps ? :)

Can i transfer old video tapes from my hard drive to a memory stick if so would a 3 hour tape fit on a 512gb stick?

This would of course depend on the compression rate of the video tape when it was copied to your hard drive. However, a 512 GB stick is a huge amount of storage space so you will have no problem fitting your 3 hour video tape on it. I would think your video tape file size would be well below 10 GB so it will fit easily. You could look at the file size of the video on the hard drive in the file's properties to be sure.

Just purchased 512gb one and after just 100gb transferee it won’t let me transfer any more saying “file too large for volume on drive”!?
