Glass one works great! No more wasted wine or failed pump devices
We've used all the various wine savers - the devices that have special plugs to replace the cork then suck out the air (start out ok but weaken and begin to fail after a few months) in their many different iterations. This looked hokey, but to our surprise and delight it works quite well - the glass one at least. It's a pretty simple concept, it's air that makes the wine turn & that's why the redneck side of my family loves their box wine - no air gets in so it can last for weeks. We're not fans of boxed wine & so we're always on the hunt for a good wine preserver as we aren't likely to finish off a whole bottle between the two of us during a weeknight. Half bottles are great but selection is limited and our current favorites don't offer half bottles: Meiomi Pinot Noir, Haraszthy old vine zin and Plungerhead zin - yummmmm :o) This funky looking carafe has made it easy for us to open a bottle when all we want is a small glass with dinner & we don't have to worry about wasting the rest or trying to slosh down the rest & feeling poorly the next day (lightweight, yes...). With this carafe you put in the wine, put in the float and the float actually floats on the top of the wine having pushed out all the air touching the wine and keeping it out with it's rubber seal. The extra lid with seal on top of the bottle is just for looks or for funzies I guess, as theoretically it should work just fine with just the bottle and the float. I do notice moisture in the section between the float and the top lid & I'm not sure if that's good or bad but so far it's not caused any problems for us. We like it enough that we're buying one for my husbands parents who are super winey folks - you know...winey as in they like their wine, not that their whiners who complain (although if their wine turns then they will indeed whine, as would anyone, yes?). The reviews seem to indicate that the plastic version doesn't hold up, which is a bummer as sometimes having a glass wine container isn't optimal (when folks have been drinking and are tipsy, outside or at the beach, etc.) but then again, if you're going to have wine at the beach or at a gathering you're likely to finish off the bottle (there's always someone trying to pour the last little dribbles of a bottle into their glass, right??) and so I suppose in those situations this carafe isn't really needed. I think I'd also like it if it were fatter and shorter instead of tall and thin - my worry is that it might tip and shatter, whereas if it was short and chubby it would be less likely to do so (I realize there's a joke there as well but I'm leaving that one alone...). SUMMARY: Glass one works great, plastic version questionable.

A great low tech high ingenuity wine saver that really works
As a casual but picky wine drinker I want a good glass of wine but not every night. After trying the vacuum pump and the 'spray in' nitrogen gas with poor results I gave up until I saw the Savino. I am on my third bottle of wine and can attest that it performs as advertised and the wine retains its quality for up to a week! The glass is very sturdy, similar to wine bottle thickness, so there is no danger of breaking and it fits right in the refrigerator door. Clean up is easy, just rinse it out with hot water and let it dry. I love the way it looks, and the mouth is just the right shape for poring, no dribbling or sloshing. If you like better wines but are not able to finish a bottle in a single sitting this is definitely for you! A fraction of the cost of nitrogen based wine preservation systems, it requires no equipment or compressed gasses or some special place to set it up. Elegant to look at it goes from refrigerator to table and back again. I love it!

Performs well but tips over easily
Great idea and it seems to do what it is supposed to do. Wine that I put in the carafe and "seal" with the float did stay relatively drinkable for days. I think it works much better than the vacuum & rubber cork system I had been using for years. I really like being able to pour out some wine and have the float tilt out of the way, then see it go right back into place when you're done. That's brilliant. Easy to clean, too. My only con is the design of the carafe. It is very top heavy when the stopper lid is on. If it is empty, it can be very easily tipped over with just a tap. Being made of glass, it could fall onto a hard counter top or drop to the floor and shatter completely. I have stone countertops and this carafe and this is a very bad concern. Plus, if there were any wine left in the bottle when it tipped over, that would make for a real disaster. I keep mine safe in a corner on my countertop when it's empty to prevent if from falling over accidentally. It would be nice if the makers of this product could modify the carafe design so it was more balanced and less likely to tip over. Maybe a heavier base or some kind of stand/holder that would cradle the carafe and keep it from falling over. They could incorporate a handle into that holder to make it easier to pour from the carafe, too.

Perfect for Chardonnay Lovers โ Keeps It Fresh, Cold, and Classy!
My wife is a devoted Chardonnay fan, and she insists on it being ice-cold. A few years ago, we received a Savino Carafe as a gift, and it quickly became an essential in our household. I'm pretty sure we'll always have one from now on. Weโre regular wine drinkers and frequently entertain guests, many of whom know weโre a Chardonnay (or white wine) householdโat least for my wifeโs sake. Guests always comment on how elegant the wine looks coming out of the carafe. It elevates the experience, whether itโs a $10 bottle or a $30+ bottle. Funny enough, people often assume weโre serving premium wine, but weโre not always. We enjoy supporting local Washington State wineries, which offer Chardonnays in a wide price range. The carafe even helps me keep track of wines our guests enjoy without being influenced by the label. For example, I recently picked up a variety of Chardonnays from a local discount grocer. During one gathering, someone commented, โThis is fantasticโwhat is it?โ I checked the bottle and saw it was an $8.99 find. Needless to say, I went back the next day and bought every remaining bottle in stock. The Savino Carafe keeps our wine fresh, cold, and enjoyable while adding a touch of sophistication to any gathering. Unfortunately, we accidentally cracked our first one recently, but it served us well for years. We didnโt hesitate to order a replacement, and our new carafe arrived recently. If youโre serious about wineโwhether itโs casual drinking or entertainingโthis carafe is a must-have. It delivers a great experience every time and has become one of our favorite wine accessories!

The product was easy to use and kept the wine much better than just in the bottle. The glass model is heavier (I have a plastic model as well) and might be slightly difficult for someone with small hands. I would suggest that you do not buy if you only use a dishwasher. The seals are likely to not appreciate high temperatures. It's well worth the money for those who only drink about half a bottle or even less per day and prevents that nice wine from oxidizing.

Still testing.

More my wife than me. She says it works very well and the wine stays fresh, as advertised.
