Helps improve quality, productivity
The TurboRoll made me a somewhat better painter and made painting faster, easier and less messy for me. It made me a better painter because the steady, even flow translates into a perfectly painted wall or ceiling. Painting is easier and faster because you eliminate most trips back to the paint tray. And painting is less messy because fewer loading sessions translate in less paint spilled on places you don't want it to go. While all of the above are great improvements, there is SOME price to pay for the extra quality, productivity and convenience. The TurboRoll requires more maintenance. If it is to last and to keep working well 'next time' it needs to be thoroughly cleaned. It's not hard but it's not fun either and it is a 20+ minute job. I'd do it outside, in the backyard if possible. And, of course, the O-rings need to be lubricated. I learned it from our plumber that Vaseline works and that's what we've used. We only did on painting campaign so far but lubricating BEFORE use resulted in some very smooth operation. We hope that applying some Vaseline AFTER we were done will keep the tool in top shape for its next use. Overall, we are very happy with the TurboRoll. It's our first such tool so I can't compare it with other model but these are the pros and cons, the way we experienced them. PROS: - Faster than 'normal' rollers - Even flow - Less mess - Less effort - Great for painting high ceilings - Easy assembly CONS: - Requires thorough cleaning and lubrication - Still need a traditional roller in cramped areas Anything that turns me into a great house painter and does it without me breaking too much of a sweat deserves the 5 star rating. Without the TurboRoll I would have spent longer time doing a worse paint job.

Very reliable results
I've gone through them all. Normal roller, then I tried the version of this that is now powered, but manual, that fills the handle and you force it out as you roll. That worked good, but was still kind of a pain, so I then got the normal Wagner power roller, with the pump and feed that sit on the paint can, and that worked very well as well. So I saw this on a gold box deal, and had to grab it to "round out" my collection. My hopes were that it would be easier than the normal powered roller I had since I would have no tubes tying me to that paint can, and easier than the manual paint stick I had, because it uses batteries to move the stick and force the paint into the roller. And so far, it's met those expectations. The application of paint is just beautiful, does a great job of letting you roll a good layer out on a wall or ceiling with virtually no spatter, and no variance in the thickness that you get with a normal roller as the amount on the roller lessens. I saw ultimately no difference in the quality of the paint job using this as opposed to the other power roller I have that ties directly to the paint can. But being able to walk around ladders, flood lights, and such, without having to always take the tube into account was the big difference. Well worth having to go back to the paint can occasionally to "reload" the handle with paint. Application was smooth, I had no jumping or stuttering of the motor, so the amount coming out was steady, which is an absolute requirement when you get into the "groove" and figure out your best speed to keep you moving quickly across the wall or ceiling. Cleanup wasn't a big deal, certainly no harder than the manual paint stick I had, and easier than the full power system I have. About 20 minutes and I was done, and as another reviewer said, it's worth it for the time saved. You just have to make sure you keep the length of the stick in mind in tight quarters, and adjust your application accordingly. Definitely a time saver, and the consistent feed helps the application look better for "normal" people like me who don't do this for a living. I can tell the rooms I did with a normal roller compared to the ones I did with either of my power rollers.

Designed for one long, single-color painting session
We just bought a house and had to repaint just about every wall, thanks to the peach and pink tastes of the previous owners. I purchased two of these in hopes of making the job easier. The initial setup was very easy- the included instructions are fairly foolproof. We went from boxes to paint-ready in about 5 minutes. We used extremely thick paint- Benjamin Moore Regal Select, but I had no problems as other users had reported. The first fill from a new can did product some air, but retracting the pump and trying again fixed the issue immediately. Our first task was to paint about 800 sq ft of textured ceiling - the poles filled with paint were reasonably heavy, but not moreso than a heavy duty metal pole. Ceilings are the worst to paint in any scenario. At first we had some problems, but once we started using what we thought was "too much" paint, we suddenly had much better coverage. We probably should have used the spatter guards, but the mess on our faces wasn't too bad without them. Unfortunately, the cleanup on these led to me using manual rollers much more than I had originally anticipated. You're supposed to submerge the bottom in water, then use the pump manually several times to clean the tool. There were a few problems with this: 1) The head of the roller is too wide to fit into a standard 5 gallon bucket, meaning you need to get creative if you want to clean up outside. 2) You really need multiple vessels to clean this in - one for the initial rinse, and then another with perfectly clean water to continue cleaning. 3) Removing the insides from the roller cover was EXTREMELY difficult while covered in paint. After destroying my fingernails, I ended up throwing the whole assembly into a bucket filled with water and sorting out the mess later. Some sort of tab to pull the ends out of the cover would have made this much, much easier. Before I told him otherwise, my husband was convinced the entire roller/cover was one solid assembly to be tossed in the trash and replaced. 4) While putting the rollers in manual mode, they kept clicking back to the powered mode. I was able to move the lever again each time, but this got annoying quite quickly. Because it happened with both rollers, I don't think it was a singled-out defect. The first time I used the roller, I rushed to the bathtub after it wouldn't fit in a bucket to try and get everything clean before the paint dried. Do NOT do this! I couldn't get the water quite deep enough and ended up squirting watered-down paint all over our entire bathroom, making quite a huge mess. Our first ceiling-painting night ended with me cowering on a paint-covered bathroom floor, surrounded in a watery paint mess and nearly in tears. Throughout the rest of our painting adventure, the rollers periodically came into play, but only if we had an entire room to paint with the same color. For most smaller areas, you could handroll and cleanup in less time than using this turbo roller. Other issues, albeit minor - when working on a ceiling, be sure to not apply any pressure from the side, or the cover will unlatch and come flying off the end, covering you and your floor in paint. Also, don't completely fill the tube with paint when working in tight areas, or the length of the extended pole will severely hinder your maneuverability. Will I use it again? Possibly. One of them ultimately ended up in the backyard, probably still filled with paint. If you plan on using one of these, make sure you prepare a "cleanup station" in advance so you aren't left with an awkwardly-sized mess!

Yeah, it actually works...
I'll preface this by saying, I'm an experienced carpenter, commercial roofer, and all around handyman. It took me about an hour to figure out how to get this to work. At first it wouldn't suck the paint up into the dispenser. But after taking it apart and adding more petroleum jelly to the washers (inside the tube) it sucked the paint right up like described. There was literally no mess at all - that is, until clean up. Clean up took about 45 minutes for me the first time, as the directions were very involved, and I've had sprayers and other painting tools in the past jam up because they were not properly cleaned afterwards. The second time I used it, clean up took 20 minutes. In my experience, the roller tube filled up fully about 7 times or so per gallon bucket. After that, it wouldn't suck up any more paint (the gallon was generally left with less than a 1/4" of paint in the container). I used a near white BEHR Premium paint, eggshell, mainly painting over dark covers. I went through 6 and 1/2 gallons to paint 2 coats in a two story apartment (about 1750sq ft of walls, and 600sq ft of slanted ceiling - this includes 2 gallons for trim). The actual paint application looks incredible. For the price of this roller, I can't see a downside. Paint comes out thick and does not drip unless you obviously hold the trigger down too long. This saved well over half the time it would take to constantly add paint to the roller... and it was less tiring to get the job done. The only problems I have with the roller are the length of the tube, and the bulkiness of the item as a whole - which can sometimes make it impossible to maneuver (in tight areas or with a wall directly behind you). However, it's not a big deal to use a regular roller in those situations. This item handled 95% of the rolling in record time for me.

Started out good and then everything went downhill.
I got this roller to paint 2 bedrooms in the least amount of time. First ill start with the good: I started using the roller with primer, and like others have said it takes a bit of paint to get started. I had to refill twice before i even had a good coat. Refilling was pretty easy you just use the refill lid that is included and let the roller suck up the paint. Putting the paint on the wall is straighforward as well and not having to keep getting paint made things go smooth and quick...at first. Here is where things went downhill, not sure if it was my walls but after a while the roller would not spin, it just dragged it itself across the wall, it didnt even had that much paint and it just smeared whatever i had laid on. I didnt refill it i just started using the paint that the roller had absorbed and that worked a bit. Somehow, i managed to finish with the primer, but when it came to the paint the roller died on me. I cleaned it after using the primer just like in the instructions i even bought a tub of vaseline to lubricate the o-rings but it just did not want to suck up the paint. I tried this about 3 times and no luck, so i abandoned it and took up my manual roller and finished the job myself. One other thing to keep in mind is that it does get heavy with all that paint. In the end this roller sits in my garage in pieces. Would not purchase another device like this, instead i would invest in some better paint brushes/rollers and paint.

Not as good as I thought.
I purchased this TurboRoll to paint my new house. I thought it would be a great way to save time and energy because I had a lot of rooms to paint. Well, it actually functioned really well. It is really easy to put together and the instructions are very clear and helpful. The roller is very easy to use once you get started. It is a little different than a traditional roller but, in a good way. The problem that I have with this product is that you are dealing with a tube. cleaning it can be VERY time consuming. I painted one room an intense burgundy and set about cleaning my TurboRoll. I spent more time than was recommended by the instructions and even completed the cleaning process twice. When I went to use it a second time with a pale yellow paint there was still, apparently, a little burgundy paint in the tubing someplace. Luckily, you can actually see the paint in the tube as you load it. I was able to stop before I put any of the "tainted" paint on my walls. I would only recommended this product if you are using one color of paint in your entire home. I find that a traditional roller actually spreads more paint more evenly and you can clean them in a snap.

Does what it says
I painted my whole house with this thing. It did exactly what it said. It worked perfectly and cut my time in half. The walls were a breeze, filling it was a little interest until it gets primed, then refilling it over and over was easy. I did ten gallons without an issue. Using it on the ceiling was a little tough as it gets a little heavy. Closets were a little difficult because of the length of it. Regardless - it cut the time in half. Worth the money. If you are staying consistent with ONE COLOR, this is the machine for you. Clean up takes about twenty minutes and with hot water and a green scrubby - easy. I used it 5 gallons with one color, cleaned it and let it dry for two hours, and started the new color.

Buy it! If you don't, you'll be missing out on one of life's golden nuggets
I bought this to paint our new home and I'm sure glad I did. It's a little bit of a hassle to clean once you're finished painting, but that 20 minutes it takes to do so is only a fraction of the time it saves you while painting. It is so amazingly wonderful to just push a button and never have to dip your roller into a paint tray. It saves you more time than you would think. Plus it's easier on your back and arms. My wife and mother inlaw fell in love with it. Now she wants one! My only complaint is that it's time consuming to clean. But hey, I'll live with that because of how much easier and faster it makes painting a room. Be careful not to push too much paint into the roller at one time. If you do, it'll drip why you're painting. It'll only take a couple minutes to figure out what the right amount of paint is though. If you spend the time cleaning this after every use, it'll last and you wont have leaks in the seals next time you use it. I read where people complained about it leaking before I bought this. That's only because they didn't make sure all of the seals were cleaned thoroughly after their previous use. If you clean it well, like the instructions provided tell you to, and lube the seals with the provided lubricant, you wont have any problems. Buy it and enjoy it. I know I did!

Paint refill valve did not work second time!
Paint refill valve didnot hold the paint second time painting. Even though I have followed their proceedure and lubricating. I was able to pull the paint out of the paint container but the valve did not close as expected and the paint flew on the floor. Unable to continue and I have to buy a manual paint and roller to finish the job!
