Your SEARCH IS OVER. The Little Targus that could DO IT ALL.
This is the BEST carry on bag EVER!!! This is an incredible one-and-done little bag that is both a backpack AND roller bag. Its straps pack in so neatly. It FITS UNDER THE PLANE seat for easy access, and it is durable. It has padded compartments for your laptop and tablet. It has TONS OF POCKETS and is so thoughtfully designed. The interior floor is rigid for support. The handle packs away in the back without pressing on your back. The wheels perform nicely and they are smooth. I am seriously considering buying the next version of this just in case. For someone who HATES putting luggage in the overhead bin (because space is always up for grabs, and I hate retrieving often used items during long flights from the overhead bins). I can pack: a heavy sweater, overnight change of clothes, an extra pair of sandals, laptop, ipad, bose headphones, neck pillow (rolled tight - I hate carrying my pillow on the outside), and other items, easily. THANK YOU TARGUS I love you!

Wonderful bag, especially at this price point
I have been traveling with this backpack for a month in India, along with a carry-on piece of luggage. It has held up well, easy to pack and easy to carry either by the handle or as a backpack, and when on rollers it is easy to maneuver and the handle remains firm. It fit as under seat luggage on major airlines, but not on the smaller internal flights- but then my carryon was too large for the overhead and had to be checked while this fit in the overhead just fine. At this price point, it cannot be beat. There are a couple of downsides. The back straps do fall out of their holder easily if not placed firmly. The side pocket only holds a 1/2L bottle. It would also be helpful to have a way to secure it to the handle of my carry-on luggage. For me, the biggest downside is that the zippers do not lock! This should be an easy fix for the company on their next iteration.

A Very Good Bag
I have owned my Targus Compact Rolling Backpack for about 2 months now. I like it a great deal and it meets my needs. I use the backpack for the daily commute to my downtown office 5 days a week. I walk from the parking garage to my building and then back again after work. I walk along sidewalks that aren't in great shape, I cross streets, and go over curbs, and my backpack rolls along easily. I read a couple of reviews that mentioned that the wheels are very loud, but they seem to be the same noise level as all the other people rolling along with their wheeled bags. It rolls quietly on the marble floors once I enter my building. I am very sastified with the capacity of the backpack. I cart my laptop and usually several 8 1/2 x 11 files that total about 1 - 2" in thickness. In addition to the laptop and files, I am able to fit a coffee thermos and some walking shoes behind the laptop and files. At times, I have packed 4 hardback books approximately 1/2" - 1" thick and a note pad in the back of the bag and still had room for my walking shoes or a makeup bag. I carry a large plastic water bottle every day and that fits nicely in the open, mesh pocket on the side of the bag and I keep my computer glasses in the zipped pocket on the other side of the bag. I keep an extra power cord for my laptop in the little zipped pocket at the top front of the bag and I was surprised that there was enough room for the power cord because it's very bulky when it's all wound up with a velcro strap to hold it all in place. I have used the front, large zippered pocket for carrying a small makeup bag, building access badge, and pens and other items when I didn't feel like carrying my purse, and at other times, I have used that pocket to carry my 7 x 9 1/2" leather planner that is 1 1/2" thick, but I can't fit anything else in that pocket when I use it to carry the planner. The bag is holding up well so far. It is very sturdily built, and the zippers and telescoping handle work perfectly. There are two things about this bag that make it a bit difficult to use, but I don't consider them to be too much of a nuisance: 1)When I pack my things inside of the bag I have to position the items on either side of the "bar" that houses the telescoping handle. There is still plenty of room in the bag to pack files and books despite the bar, but they don't lie nice and flat against the back of the bag. 2) The top of the bag does not unzip all the way around the bag to fall open the way a suitcase does. It opens into an "L" shape. So I have to hold the top (the area where the laptop sleeve is) open with one hand and pack my things with the other hand. Neither of these issues is a deal breaker for me, but it keeps it from being the "perfect" bag. I did a lot of research and read many reviews about rolling laptop bags before deciding to buy the Targus. I'm very happy with my choice.

WOMEN, here is a rolling backpack that is not too big and LIGHT at a reasonable price!
I had an old rolling backpack I received as a giveaway a few years ago, similar construction. This one is much better. The wheels do not dig into my back and it is easy to convert it to a backpack as you just un-velcro the area that they are and the flap velcros around the wheels so the dirt from the wheels do not get on your clothes. I am 5'3" and the adjustable straps do work well to take up the bag so it does not sag on my back. I loaded it up with three five pound - 14 inch and 15 inch laptops and it still had room for a lot of clothes. Front pocket has an organizer and is quite big enough to easily take three power packs. Rolling is easy and the straps do not get dirty and are out of the way due to the flap. Rolls easy but the wheels are easily scratched by the concrete. Did not fall over... The padded laptop area easily fits a 15 inch laptop with sufficient padding. I am planning to take this bag to Vegas as there is so much walking and my 20 inch Tumi Voyageur suitcase is too big for an overnight trip. It does not look like a suitcase, so I can take it to my seminar and roll it around so I do not need to leave it at luggage check and wait to get it. I used a leather bag with handles and strap, and although I only had a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 and minimal overnight clothes, it got heavy during the day on my shoulder or hands. The middle area is good enough for 2-3 days of clothing and 5 days if you are a good packer. Organizer cubes will help as the area is open and will organize besides keeping the clothes out of sight. The handle is slim but sturdy and padded, articulating and locking at two different heights. The side pockets easily fit a larger water bottle. Small padded pocket on top should fit most mobile phones or a pair of sunglasses. I looked at about a dozen bags, including the High Sierra ones and this one was the lightest at four pounds and not too big. All of the other bags, Samsonite, etc. were much bigger. The bag I liked the best was at Levenger, it had the wheels pointing out when it was a back pack. The cost was three times the cost of this bag. So I expect to use it for overnight or short trips, grocery shopping (can easily fit a bag of groceries and a little more). Save your back, inexpensive and good contruction. The only thing I would have liked is side cinching straps to take up the excess bag when it is lightly packed I will update the review once I go to Vegas and return!

Good bag with design flaw - UPDATE: Did not last a year...
UPDATE 11/24/19: So I promised to update when I broke it...bottom portion of handle now stuck in extended position (you know this happened just before I boarded an aircraft, as always...). Targus has indicated they'll stand by warranty, but I've got to ship bag back to them on my dime - which they'll invariably throw away - I suspect this serves as a disincentive (it's about $20.00 to ship) for folks to take them up on their warranty (as many other luggage companies just require you to send them a pic of the destroyed bag). After thinking about it I decided to purchase a different bag and give another company a try. At this point, I can't recommend a product that won't even last a year of normal use. Downgraded to 1 star. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Frequent domestic airline traveler/professional looking to downsize/lighten the load from Samsonite rolling business case and get a little more versatile with carry options. Tried several different brands of rolling backpacks, some better made but heavier; this bag strikes a decent balance between reasonable durability, capacity and weight. Should point out that the actual capacity of the bag is 27L, not 29L (see tag). I use it for airplane carry-on: laptop/digital kit, tablet, chargers, emergency overnight essentials, packed jacket, etc - I routinely check a suitcase - so travel with 2 bags. 27-30L is the right size for me - these bags get bigger quicker and thus more difficult to carry/maneuver on a plane, etc. So your choice is largely driven by how much you need to carry in it, and one of my criteria was standard US domestic carry-on limit: 22” x 14” x 9”. This bag will fit (depending on how full) under most larger aircraft seats and certainly in the overhead on regional jets. This is one of the few, if not only, bags that does not have a zipper cover over the shoulder straps - just 2 velcro attachment points to hold the 3/4 flap in place. This is actually a critical component, as the flap ( and straps) will get caught under the wheels if (when...) it comes loose and you're rolling it. And as anybody that has ever used velcro before knows - it'll wear out in a year or two with frequent use. At any rate, I added a snap to each connection point (see pics) - seems rather obvious and I'm not sure why Targus doesn't do that. Also suggest you push it "wheels-first" into the TSA scanner - otherwise this strap-flap can peel back. Recommend the bag if the size is right for you – mine goes on airplanes, hotels, cars, trucks and out to the field. Rolled through airports, carried in the field. My 14" laptop does ride inside a separate carry case (neoprene) – inside the flap provided (also padded) – the bag is lightweight and so far sturdy enough - although could use more pockets/organizational spaces IMO – my only real con with the bag. Will update when I break it…

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Perfect Lightweight Rolling Backpack for Travel! I absolutely love this Targus 16 Inch Compact Rolling Backpack! It’s lightweight, durable, and perfect for short trips. One of the best features is that it passes as a personal item—a huge plus with airlines now charging $60+ for carry-ons (and even more at the counter). The wheels are smooth and quiet, unlike a small duffle I tried to modify with wheels—those were so loud and bumpy on carpet. This Targus bag rolls effortlessly on both tile and carpet, and the option to wear it as a backpack is super convenient when you need it to look smaller for airline checks. There are tons of compartments, which makes organizing easy. I use the side pocket for my electronics and chargers, and the main section fits my laptop, iPad, toiletries, and clothes—no problem. It’s now my go-to travel bag for electronics and essentials, and it’s even roomy enough for a short getaway. This bag has made traveling so much easier and more affordable for me. Highly recommend! 5 out of 5 stars.

Poorly designed back strap.
Size good, quality good -- but the backpack straps are very poorly designed. There is nothing to clip the ends up or even together when you take them off your back and convert the pack to a roller. The wheels roll over the straps and get hung up on them. All it would have taken is a clip and this would have been near perfect, but I didn't realize it until I was in the airport and had no time or material to jerry-rig this. Pictures taken after ONE trip. First one shows how they dangle, second is damage done by rolling the back pack.

Bom produto
Sou professora e uso para levar computador e projetor. A bolsa é muito boa e bem resistente. A alça é excelente. Poderia ser melhor se a abertura do zíper fosse completa pra ela abrir como mala, mas isso não impede seu uso. Bom produto.

Nice
Trolley got stuck at one level after 1 month of use. Otherwise, working fine after 5 months

Just prefect for my work travel.
This unit replaced a couple of travel bags that never really suited my needs. Unlike the last roller bag, the Targus is stable and does not fall over with a large tablet inside. Ih has ust enough space to fit overnight clothes and tablet accessories. It fits into smaller planes' overhead lockers. Obviously having both back straps and wheels makes this very adaptable. The backpack straps are quite useful even if the cover for the straps looks a bit clumsy and does not fully cover the straps.
