I also love that he doesn't require you to buy his products, he has products available but you don't have to use them. Its more for your ease if you choose and because so many people have asked him for them. This program really does help your body to heal itself and maintain good health. Don't expect an overnight success but you will feel so much better it can feel like it might be miraculous. Instead you should just ask your HMO why they don't suggest these things if they are really focused on prevention instead of intervention. Review: Anyone Can Do It!!! - This is a very sound and easy progrram to follow and I am stil doing many of the suggested things from each of the 8 weeks. I read the book in Oct. 2009. Dr. Weil has been around in the field of health for a long time and I find his help optimal. The breathing exercises are truly great and I find them helpful whether in bed, on the job or out in the world. Good breathing is most helpful to any program one chooses as it relaxes the body as well as energising it. It does for me anyway. I was a shallow breather most of my life and this program keeps me on track daily!!! Can't ask for more than that. Eating certain veggies, grains, fish and sticking with the basics make for wonderful habits to keep ones body doing the most for itself. We are amazing machines when treated with respect and having gratitude!!! This is very prominent in this program. Go for it!!!

probably one of the best health books out there

LOVE this book!
Really practical advices, easy to read and understand. I own many of Dr. Weil's books and this one is probably one of my favorite. I actually bought the audio book first, but the content was so useful that I wanted to have the book as a reference to look things up. I've incorporated many of his suggestions and I have more energy and don't get sick as often. Highly recommend this to everyone who care about their health!!!

Solid health advice
wow - first of all i think it is amazing that Dr. Weil predicted in '97 trans-fats would eventually be deemed so dangerous that the FDA would ban them for human consumption. That's happened within the past 2 years. overall I think Dr. Weil gives solid advice for someone beginning a healthier lifestyle. I like the way he has you adapt just a few new habits each week - always any easier transition than making major changes all at once. And the advice is given in the context of easing into them at your pace and achieveing the balance that feels right to you. The reader can make certain areas of the diet/exercise/meditation more rigid/extreme, but Weil doesn't promote this as the only path to health. Weil also stresses the importance of spiritual and mental wellness - the idea that you can get every aspect of your diet, exercise supplements right, but if you aren't nurturing loving relationships and taking the time to relax, recharge and practice mindfulness/breathing techniques - you are missing an important area of achieveing optimal health - the feeling of fulfillment that is key and complementary to the physical aspects of health and healing. The only area that is a little lacking is that some of the recommendations are not supported with much background on why Weil recommends. Because of the work Weil has done in this field I am certain it is well informed advice, but the supporting information is not always provided. Some readers will have an understanding why Weil recommends things like milk thistle, evening primrose oil, purified water as opposed to tap - but more information would help clarify the advice for others.

Excellent book for those who are sick and don't know ...
Excellent book for those who are sick and don't know where to start out. This book gives you a solid foundation of essential things your body needs to heal itself. It takes commitment though! The things are not hard to do, but you really need to do them consistently and form good habits, which is the hard part. But if you really want it, you will do it easily.

Marginal advise
I purchased this book thinking it was going to offer information in more of a "layperson's" verbage but found it a little over my head when it came to discussing medical/scientific information. I also felt that it spent way too much time on case studies. I do feel that it would probably be beneficial to someone that could sift through it correctly & be able to apply this regiment properly. As for me, I don't feel well & would for once in my life like to see a book that cut through everything, talked to us like what we are "lay people" and offered us with an approach that could be applied to address our specific problems affordably & effectively. Please don't get me wrong, this book does have the information you are probably seeking. However, in my opinion, if you don't feel well & are looking for quick help, plan on either reading the entire thing and trying to decipher it or sifting through it & it's index trying to locate your specific ailment.

A Low Pressure introduction to a healthier lifestyle.
I borrowed 8 Weeks to Optimum Health from my local library via e-reader. I was so impressed by Dr. Weil's practical and and easy to understand program for increased health that I went to Amazon to purchase a copy for re-reading and highlighting. The suggestions which include the simplest ideas of increased walking, spending more time in nature and having flowers in your home are easy to incorporate and bestow immediate benefits to the reader.

Loved it.
I am reading it for the 3rd time as part of a refresher program for my nutrition studies. It is just as good as it was the first time I read it. The advice is still relevant and right on point if you want to turn poor health around. It is clear and precise and written for the common man to understand. Enjoy.

gesund leben ist HOT. andrew eil war fruh darbei, wass er vor 20 jahren geschrieben hat gilt nog immer und ist bestimmt etwass verbessert. aber im grossen ganzen braucht mann kein anderes buch als manual. leicht zu lesen, uberzeugend und amerikanisch. mittlerweile verdient er auch geld mit dem verkauft von vitaminen usw. aber dass kan man sein lassen.
