How does this differ from my first orchard game? (other than size, quantity of fruit, and individual baskets.)

The rules and length of the game are adjusted to suit toddlers and the game material is especially designed for a small childs' hand. The beautiful and handy wooden pieces are also very suitable for free play and fostering better motor skills. In the original large version, there are more fruit pieces to collect and also a large raven puzzle in the middle. Once the large puzzle is completed, the raven wins. The aim is to collect all the fruit before the raven puzzle is completed. Everyone works together to accomplish this. The MVFG version is similar, but instead of putting together the raven puzzle, if a raven is rolled you move him down the provided path tiles. If you search on youtube there are a number of review videos of both version to give you a better idea.

Question 2

Will a child always win this game? I’m trying to teach a 3 year old to lose graciously so hope they lose as often as win.

Everyone who plays is on the same team, playing against the Raven (a fictitious character basically representing the game/gameboard itself). We played this game a lot when my kids were young. We won more often than we lost, but we definitely lost sometimes.  Because we lost as a team, it was perhaps a loss that was easier for the children to take.  This was our favorite game when our kids were young.

Is the gameboard reasonably durable? Is it a thick cardboard?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it's reasonably durable. It's not necessarily better quality than the average board, but it's definitely comparable. The board folds into quarters; when closed it fits inside a large ziplock freezer bag. All four quarters of mine are still attached, and that's not common for my little ones, especially for a game they love so much!
