A Course of Pure Mathematics: Third Edition

There have been many reviews of this text over the many years it has been in repeated reprints. What is there to add? Simply brilliant.

Print was not as strong as is should have been on some pages and was sent to me without any paper receipt so I sent the book back

It is a pretty standard A-level+ text. Maybe good to have on your shelf in the light of the film with Jeremy Irons as Hardy with Ramanujan ("the man who knew infinity" or somesuch).

A most remarkable Book by one of the greatest Mathematicians of the 20C He wrote it based on the A Level Course but with greater rigour than todays Books because in 1908,Analysis wasn't taught at British Universities..today,it is the Norm..thanks to Hardy...highly recommend for anyone wants a deeper understanding of School Maths as a magnificent spring Board to Degree work!

The quality of the print was so poor that it made the book unreadable.

This book in fact, is a classical calculus course, it is easy to follow ( "A" level needed ).This book cover the first year university, a very good "tool" with a classical view point.

私は定年をすぎた材料力学系の機械屋であるが 必要に迫られ読んでいる約50年前の流体力学の 英語の論文にこの本が参考文献として挙げられており 価格も安いので購入した。 この本のタイトルは日本語に直訳すれば 純粋数学入門といったものになるとおもうが 実際に読んでみると著者がその序文に書いているように 理工系の教養課程の学生のための微積分の教科書 または独習書であって、たとえばTaylor級数や 複素数などは日本語の本ではみられないような 懇切な説明がなされており、 学生に真の数学的な実力を身につけさせたいと いう著者の意図が理解される。 理工系の学生の方で英語で微積分学を勉強したいと いう方には好適な本とおもわれる。

First, the print quality is like from before 2nd world war. Font is fuzzy, small and difficult to read. It looks like this book was made on the typing machine 100 years ago. Which actually might be true, as 1st edition of this book is from 1908. As a consequence the style of the book is more difficult to read than modern, more user-friendly books. I guess the assumption here is that you need to learn/memorize what a differential is - but you are not expected to ask questions like how/why these differential are even needed, how they relate to real world. A simple example with moving car and its speed would suffice, but that's not how older books were being written. So overall I'm dissappointed with this book, I can see many other books or online publications that are dealing with these subjects in more user-friendly way.

値段だけのものでしょうか。安価なだけに印字が劣悪でかろうじで読み取れる。しかしストレスはかかりますのでこれはやめた方がいいでしょう。他のハードカバーのものも同じなのでしょうか？
