Remedios Varo: The Mexican Years

Excellent book

An excellent study of an artist who deserves to been known better than she is. Well written and informative study of an artist who was taken from us far to soon!

I was going to recommend this as the most affordable and easy to find book on Varo but I see it is already vanishing too. When I bought this last year, the others were either too expensive for me or old enough that I doubted the reproductions would be the best available. The reproduction is great here. The text is kept to a minimum and as far as I can recall, all my favorites paintings are here. She's one of my all-timers. Her best work is very atmospheric and textured.

Remedios Varo is a dazzling artist. The virtuosity of her technique and the profundity and richness of her imagination are on full display in this gorgeous collection of her work. This book is a treasury of delights.

I avow I didn't know remedios varo... And I was very pleased to discover her work. she is rather near of Eleonora carrington in her inspiration, in her personnal surrealism and even in her way of painting. What stikes me in these two artists is how an education leaves long marks even in surrealist painiers (what is a kind of paradox). For example, it's very clear that varo was educared in catholic schools and that carrington's family insisted on contacts with animals ... I think arrington is more daring in her surrealism, more free in her imagination. At any rate, I must thank amazon for it's thank to their "recommendations" that I discovered remedios varo .

Big longtime fan of Remedios Varo, and my interest was triggered by a recent show of her friend Leonora Carrington. This is a great book with lots of clear large reproductions and a decent bio. I also appreciate the stain resistant cover, great for dragging around the studio.

Meraviglioso. Ottima la qualità della stampa e molto apprezzata la dimensione a pagina intera dei dipinti. Purtroppo questo ha costretto nell'impaginazione ad utilizzare intere pagine bianche per riportare le didascalie dei titoli delle opere, e a mio avviso è un po' uno spreco, però questo non influisce sul numero cospicuo di tele rappresentate. Lo consiglio vivamente a tutti gli amanti del surrealismo. Io personalmente lo adoro e amo Remedios.

Overall I am very happy with this book. My only complaint is that they printed on glossy paper instead of matte.

本書が届いた時、あまりの本の薄さに当初驚きました。 厚さや大きさはページ数のある絵本を想像していただければ解りやすいかと思います。 写真の表紙絵の青色は現物と比べ紺色に近いです。ハードカバー製本、カバー無しです。 ですが問題は中身、内容です。大変満足しています。 まず海外系画集に多い事なのですが半分カラー、半分モノクロ。酷いのはカラー２割、モノクロ８割などもあります。 こちらは最初の数ページ画家の写真、後半に年表がモノクロでついており絵は全てオールカラーです。 横描きの絵に関しては１Pに収まる様リサイズして掲載する形ではなく２P見開きで大きく掲載しています。 その為レメディオス バロの細かい描き込み、絵のタッチがまじまじと見る事ができました。 そして何より嬉しいのが本物の絵と本に掲載された絵というのはサイズが解らない、、現物を見て実物の大きさに驚く事は良くあります。 こちらの本は作品タイトルと共に作品のサイズ●×●cmと書かれてるところが親切だと感じました。 気に入ってじっくり何度も見ています。 こちらの本が一時在庫切れで、洋書を扱う本屋さんで注文をお願いしたところ相場が大体５５００円になりました。 ２０００円以上高くなるのはと思うのであれば 洋書はAmazonで買えるのであれば買っておきましょう。とだけ書いておきます。
