Great Ultra Magnus!
This was my first purchase of the LG line, the price was right, so I took a chance and bought him. I had been buying many of the Hasbro CW figures, and wanted Ultra Magnus. The Hasbro version of this toy looks cheap, where this one feels sturdy. The light blue of the Hasbro isn't as nice as the darker blue on this guy. Also, this one has painted hubs on the wheels, whereas the Hasbro version is just black. It's amazing how something so small like that can make such a big difference. It just overall LOOKS sooooo much better. Transformation isn't difficult. If I had a complaint, it would be that the shoulder missiles are just one big molded plastic piece, rather than an actual launcher with plastic projectiles, but that doesn't change how cool he looks in either robot or truck mode.

If you like this toy, this is the version to get.
Originally I had purchased the hasbro version of this toy, while I was happy with the mold and the look for the toy the materials and quality control on that version was lacking. Not happy, I decided to take a chance on the takara version in hopes it would fix some of the problems present in the hasbro toy. I'm glad I did. Not only does this version look visually better (bright white plastic and more vibrant colors and paint applications) it feels so much better in the hand. Plastic feels "sturdier" and has less flex to the thin areas and joints are all tighter and smoother in their function and feel. Those leg panels that sound like they are breaking the hasbro version when transformig them to robot mode? Gone. Stress marks on the back of the legs right out of the box? Not their. If you are someone who, like me loved this mold but hated the issues present with the hasbro release, do yourself a favor and treat yourself to this version of the toy if you do not mind paying a little more for your transformers.

Definitely pick this guy up!
This figure hits all the right marks for me. It looks amazing in both robot and vehicle mode, a very sweet throwback to his G1 self. The transformation is complex enough to be interesting, but still intuitive and manageable. It is genuinely very cool to transform the cab and trailer together into a unified robot. I also greatly prefer the look of this (Takara) version from the Hasbro. The darker blue, plus the extra paint details and QC are well worth the small bump in cost for me. Also, the mini figure as Alpha Trion looks way cooler than the Minimus character from the Hasbro version. I strongly recommend this figure for any fan of Ultra Magnus or anyone who cannot spring for the very expensive Masterpiece version.

Great... hammer, not so much.
This version of Ultra Magnus is WAY better than his Hasbro version. If you can afford it, buy this one. Pros: Colors are great. Awesome shades of red, blue, and yellow. His vehicle mode is good too. the cab and trailer don't seperate, and the cab is a lot smaller than the trailer, but the cab can still turn individually and is very nice. The little guy Alpha Trion (Minimus Ambus) can fit inside Magnus just like in the IDW More Than Meets the Eye comics. Magnus's hands can open and close! Cons: It's hard for Magnus to hold on to his weapons. Magnus can't hold his hammer like he can fight with it, he just holds it like a staff. Overall, Magnus is worth is price tag

Great seller !! exactly 14 days for shipping , the figure is awesome !! nothing compared to the hasbro version the colores the paint everything well worth the extra bucks and now that hasbro is getting more expensive its a no brainer to jus go a little more for the perfect version , my only complaint is that the box was skin tight so everything that happens to the outer box the toys iner box gets the same it was so tight i couldnt get the figure out tight!! they should give a little room and pack these thing like its going to travel from japan to USA

This version of Ultra Magnus is that depicted in the current run of comics published by IDW, and as such he is slightly different from other versions of the character you may know. In this comic-book reality the original Ultra Magnus was a mighty warrior who fell in combat eons ago. In order to keep his legend alive a powerful suit of 'Magnus armour' was created and has been worn by a succession of worthy bearers. The current occupant of the armour is Minimus Ambus, a tiny Autobot who is what is referred as a 'point one-percenter' - that being a Transformer with an ability so rare that only 0.1% of the population possess something like it. Minimus Ambus ability is that he is a 'mega loader', meaning that despite being tiny and physically weak himself, his frame is capible of sustaining incredible weights, making him the ideal bearer of the huge Magnus suit. As 'Ultra Magnus' he is the Enforcer of the Tyrest Accord - the ultimate enforcer of law and order in Transformers society. On to the toy itself, its a very impressive piece standing about 12" tall if you include his shoulder stacks and with an impressive heft to it. Brightly coloured and stylish, this is Ultra Magnus for the modern age with sleeker lines and contours than his earlier counterparts. The figure has an impressive range of articulation and is fully posable, and comes armed with two blasters as well as two shoulder mounted twin rocket launchers. He transforms into a futuristic vehicle carrier with a trailer capable of supporting several smaller Transformers. Minimus Ambus is also included, standing about 2" tall and transforming into a futuristic car, he can 'wear' Ultra Magnus by opening a cavity in his chest area. Despite being an intricately designed toy, Ultra Magnus is actually quite eacy and intuitive to transform. In terms of complaints I have only two. First is that whilst the Minimus Ambus figure is quite well articulated itself despite its very small size, it is still somewhat very basic in design and has the appearance similar to the very early Headmaster partners from the Generation 1 action figures. Also his proportions are off from his comicbook version - basically he's a little too small. The second complaint is that whilst this toy is supplied by a Japanese company, there is no mention that the packaging art differs completely from Western versions of the toy. In the West this toy is produced as part of the 'Combiner Wars' series of toys, has different packaging art and is of course is written in English. This version of the toy does have some English language but is predominantly Japanese and has packaging art that includes advertisements for some wierd looking cutsy Manga-esque toys - it even comes with some strange Japanese mini-comic full of cute characters involved in some sort of adventure with Magnus! Possibly I should have assumed this to be the case, but there is nothing in the product description to indicate this. Its a small complaint because the figure is exactly the same as the Wstern version, but one that might bother some collectors. Nevertheless, it is still a very impressive action figure.

How did I not review this at the time? This figure is the bomb, Takara do it better every time. The original from Hasbro has soft white plastic for legs, this one is sturdy and awesome. Not as posable as you might like but the size of him is impressive and still has posable hands which is a bonus. He's a beefcake with an angry chest who turns into the full vehicle including trailer. Transformation isn't too hard or too easy.
