Excellent Lapdesk
I've had this lapdesk for a few months now and love it. The size is good for a small to medium sized laptop, 14-15 inch. The fan does an excellent job of preventing the air flow to the bottom of the laptop from stopping or becomming stagnant. On my Alienware M14X I can prop the fron of the laptop on the front lip of the lapdesk (some might use it as a sill to corral the laptop towards the back of the lapdesk, but I don't) and the back on the rubber pads. This arrangement allows good airflow over the majority of the bottom of the laptop, including the bottom front. Running the lapdesk's fan on low is surprisingly quiet, on high it is audable, but not disturbing, and quieter than my M14X's laptop fan is on high. In usage, having the lapdesk's fan on low is enough air movement for the M14X laptop fan to not need to spin up for regular computer tasks, and when playing games the fan on high keeps the bottom of the laptop from becomming overly hot. As to the fan wearing out, it has not worn out on mine but if it did, it wouldn't be too big a deal, far cheaper to replace the lapdesk than the fan in the laptop. My mother-in-law has been using this lapdesk lately with her 15 inch Dell laptop while our kitchen is being demolished, this eliminates the need for her laptop's fan to run, which keeps the demolition dust out of her laptop, a handy arrangement. The lapdesk is comfortable on the lap, and with the fan running on high it provides a small amount of cooling for your lap too. When this lapdesk wears out I'll be replacing it with a new one of the same model, it's well worth the money.

Of the three I've tried, the most worthy of being called a cooling pad
My 2008-era MacBook Pro gets hot, especially when I recharge it. So I have bought and tried 3 different cooling pads over the years. This is by far the quietest and most effective of the three. With the two-speed fan on low, the LogiTech N200 is quieter than a whisper--and it cools my MBP down. The other pads I tried could keep it from getting too warm, but this one actually makes it cool to the touch. That's right--with this on and your laptop charging, the laptop will become cooler than when you plugged in the charger. The higher fan speed is good to have when I've done something stupid like use the MBP with it resting on a bed or other surface that blocks the MBP's cooling vents. Even when my MBP gets that hot--and it is painfully hot--it will cool down quickly as soon as I remember to plug the cooling pad in. The higher fan speed does make noticeable noise--but even that is less noise than was made by the cooling pad I finally decided to replace with this one. And my MBP will not heat up when it's resting on this pad, even with the fan off and the MBP charging. My 15-inch MBP sits stably on this pad. It didn't on the others. And the padded base makes it possible for me to use my laptop in my lap--comfortably. I couldn't ask for more!

My thoughts on the Logitech Cooling Pad...
Over all I like the design of this cooling pad, and love that there are two speeds for the fan. I normally keep it on the low setting which is so much quiter than the cooling pad that this is replacing. That one made it hard to hear the tv when it was turned down low to not disturb people who are sleeping.. this one has no issue with that. There are only two minor things that I'm not the most thrilled with, but I am able to over look them. The first one has to do with the cord, they make is so it is able to be pushed down in a track so it comes out from the back on either side, depending on where your USB port is, but I have found that it doesn't like to stay put and keeps coming out of the grove and flops around. Not a big deal if you have it plugged in, but I only plug it in when I'm gaming on my laptop, so most of the time its just hanging down. They do give you an option to store the cord under the cooling pad when not in use, but since my USB port is on the left side, I'd have to pull up the whole cord and then push it back into the grove going the opposite direction every time. So I just let it hang out the back when its not plugged in. Like I said, slightly annoying, but considering my last one had no place for the cord to go, I can deal with it. My only other complaint would be that now that it warmed up, finally, and I'm wearing shorts more often.. it's not the softest of things to have directly on your legs. There is a mesh like covering over the padding which is a little on the rough side, and unless you sit with your legs apart by quite a bit, you will end up with the plastic vent slots on your legs. I'm sure it helps with the cooling aspect of the pad, but as I said, not the most comfortable overall.

works well at keeping my hot laptop cool.
I have a Sony VAIO flip 15 with the nvidia card and it gets hot very fast. I could only use it on my lap for short periods of time if I was doing anything power intensive. I purchased this cooling pad and it works wonders. The pad is thin and the laptop is thin so even with both together its barely thicker that a laptop of 5 years ago. It has two speeds, the lower of which is very quiet and the higher is louder but moves a lot of air and does a great job of cooling. The bottom has a thin pillow like padding that feels good on your legs and the fan blows down and out the back so it cools you legs a bit too. When its on my desk, the pad props my laptop up at a good angle and due to the curvature of the bottom still works well on a flat surface. There's even a recess and clips to hold the wire in when its not connected to the laptop.

*updated* Not worth it if you have a larger computer (17.3")
I tried it on my larger laptop but it still didn't fully cool down the whole system. Even on my smaller laptop, it doesn't seem to cover all the vents properly.... still, I am holding out and hoping that it keeps my smaller 15" laptop cooler. cons: doesn't cover the whole laptop or vent it properly. Also, when it arrived, the packaging looked sloppy, looked slightly used despite the sticker that said "new" on the bottom. come on, Logitech! pros: USB cord tucks away neatly and has 2 settings on it that changes the speed of the fans. it also isn't as bulky as I thought it would be. It's comfortable, not loud and does its job fairly well on my smaller laptop. edit: After having this cooler for a while now, I can finally say that this clearly holds up and works great for my smaller laptop. it keeps it cool and keeps it going.

Fails as a cooling pad but comfortable on the lap.
I honestly can't figure out how some people got a reduction in temperature with this product. I test it out on a Macbook Air, Macbook Pro, Dell 15.6 and a Lenovo 11 inch laptop and honestly I would not recommend this product for the "cooling effect". So for the Macbook Air and the Macbook pro, I used Tunabelly's temperature monitor. Even though Macs run hotter than windows, I generally don't like them going over 80C. This product failed to cool the temperature down in any meaningful way, that I could say with certainty was caused by this product. Even a lowering 3C would have been noticeable. Part of the problem is that this cooler has a dinky little fan in the center of pad that does nothing for the Macbooks. Aside from that the top part of the pad is all plastic that actually insulates the lower metallic surface of the Macs, you know the part that Macbooks use to disperse heat, the part that absolutely should not be insulated. For the Lenovo I used Core Temp as my temperature monitor software. I had to place the laptop to one side so that the fan was underneath the air ports/vent at the bottom, so that there could be some cooling effect. But placing the laptop to one side, made the whole thing a bit unbalanced. As to the actual cooling, yes I did notice, when the laptop was idle, it was idle at a lower temperature than usual, but any strain and the temperature shot right up with no help from this pad. For the Dell, again I used the Core temp software and to my disappointment, the pad's performance was subpar. So the question is, why did I give it two stars instead of one when the cooling part is clearly lacking. Well that's because of the underside of the pad. The underside is a soft cushion that makes it very comfortable to rest the pad and a laptop on your lap while you work on the sofa/chair. That soft underside is the only reason this product isn't a complete failure. It fails at actual cooling but if you just want something to place your laptop on, it's a good product.......But hang on....your're paying $30-40 for this sucker and all you're getting is a cushioned laptop place mat?

Logitech does it again!
Got this cooling pad because I play a lot of games on the go and my little machine gets pretty hot on my lap! The fan works nicely. I use noise-cancelling earphones, so the second speed doesn't bother me, but the first speed is great if others are present or sleeping. The fan keeps the computer cool to the touch and the pad keeps the laptop away from my body. It's just plug and play. Low power usage and a surprising amount of portability. The cushioning on the bottom is nice as well. It's a bit tough to use at an incline, as the computer will start to slide towards you unless you have the computer and adjustable bumpers set up just right and level. I played a number of system-intensive games for a few hours, and the system stayed very cool throughout all of it. It's more portable than other cooling pads, but its shape does create a bulge in my messenger bag. Overall, VERY satisfied with this product. Logitech has never failed me when it comes to computer peripherals and accessories. I'm actually just about to buy another one for a relative of mine! 5 stars

Comfortable, quiet and effective
I've had a couple of cooling pads before, and this is by far the best. It is powerful, yet quiet. The angle might not be for everyone, but it's great for me. The bottom is also padded, so it can make a good lap desk in a pinch. It's also one of the least expensive cooling pads I've owned! This is obviously easier to use if staying stationary, but I've found it's light enough that I don't carrying it with my laptop when going to meetings. Before getting this my computer was overheating and shutting off when running taxing programs. I've not experienced that once since using this cooling pad. I would definitely recommend this. This is worth double it's price.
