Smart-UPS 3000VA UPS Battery Backup with Pure Sine Wave Output (SMT3000)

Can not be used with standard 110V outlet. Requires licensed electrician to set up. This statement according to Schnider Electric who provides product support for APC. I now have a 120lb brick.

I've been using APC products for 15 years, and remain a devoted user because their UPS's WORK. Our applications are primarily in the field of professional audio. Our consoles, amps and electronic equipment NEVER need servicing due to power fluxuation related damage. Use one of these big 3000VA units for a 30A circuit, and it just works -- you forget about it until the lights blink! An entire control room runs off of one unit, and we've not had any difficulties in my 12 years working in it. Plus, we're in Florida, lightning strike capital of the US! We will never buy another APC battery again! avoid at all costs.

...two big computers, TV, TiVo, lights, even a laser printer. This is big enough to cover a 20A branch circuit well.

I purchased this unit to supply 120 VAC power to support my grid tied solar/battery microgrid control system when the utility grid fails and the microgrid cannot start for some reason. I wanted to keep 120 VAC going as long as possible--i.e. until the UPS batteries are exhausted. However, unlike most standard UPS units, this system apparently doesn't work this way. Instead it wants to start shutting its loads down after a preset period of time and I was not able to find a way to avoid this. I wrote a detailed message to the manufacturer which was confirmed as received but never answered. Lacking any support, I did the best I could to make this unit keep my 120 VAC loads going as long as possible but the programming is complex and not easy to understand, so I have no way of knowing whether I've succeeded or not. I am a registered professional electrical engineer so I'm not exactly an idiot when it comes to programming. My two-star rating is mainly due to my frustration in not getting answers back from the factory regarding how to accomplish what my UPS application requires.

If you have a high end gaming computer and large LCD monitor or monitors, this UPS gives the protection they deserve. Very quiet operation and more than handles the heavy load put on it. I live in a mountain area (8,000ft elevation) where the power is always going out due to trees falling on main service lines or heavy snow loads on branches causing them to touch and arc on lines. This unit is fabulous! Not only will it give me over an hour of back-up power, but also does an excellent job of supplementing when voltage drops occur, which happen frequently. It weighs 143 pounds and was hard getting it upstairs by myself, but well worth it. Don't gamble on power issues killing your sensitive electronic equipment. This unit gives great protection against power loss and voltage fluctuations.

Great for protecting desktops and other electronics that have no battery. I have these due to power outages. They supplie enough power to give me time to power down the computers and keep them protected rather than have them shut down all at once with a risk that data will be lost. They're small enough to use in your home, and work very well.

This thing is big and supplies lots of power. Network capabilities with additional card install. Works with auto power down on the IBM 720 series servers when the power fails.

Does what you'd expect. Just be aware - this is a HEAVY bit of kit. It's also a little noisy (active fan cooling), so if you're intending to use it in a study, you may want to reconsider if you want absolute quiet. Beeps every few seconds when running off the battery.
