Kitchen Mama One Touch Electric Can Opener, Avocado

I have to feel very strongly about something in order to write a review about it. I'm a busy gal! But this! This incredible product deserves it. Let's begin with the fact that it's small enough to throw in a drawer. It does not take up space on your counter like other can openers. That's the reason why I was stuck with manual, hand held openers my whole life. I was not ready to sacrifice any counter space for a can opener. Next, you set it and forget it. I was working on the stovetop doing something else while this was busy opening my can on the counter. You just pop it on, press the button and it does all the dirty work for you. Another plus, it opens the side of the can (not the top) which creates a smooth, safer surface when the top comes off. Not like that crazy jagged, sharp thing your'e left with when you use any other opener. And finally, when it's done, you lift the can opener effortlessly off the can and it comes off with the cap because the cap has a magnetic piece on it and it holds onto it until you take it off. It's just so rare that you run into a product that actually makes your life easier without any cons. Here it is! Stop looking! I'm totally going to buy one for everyone in my family who cooks. I know they will open their gift and be like...huh? Really? A can opener? But just wait....It's the best!

I absolutely LOVE this can opener. Just bought my second one. The first one lasted many years but then gave out. Best can opener I have ever used! Never want to be without one again!

This can opener from Kitchen Mama works just as advertised, and is a boon for the elderly and those who need a safe, easy, quick can opener. It's small size belies its great performance. Recommend highly.

This is my second unit. The first quit working after about a month. I ended up blaming myself for using batteries that were below the "required" voltage, and decided to give Kitchen Mama the benefit of the doubt. Before buying this second unit, I posted a question inquiring about whether the unit would function properly with rechargeable 1.5v li-on batteries. They responded in the affirmative. The second unit arrived practically DOA, unfortunately. Given the experience with the first unit, I was initially predisposed to blaming the batteries, so I tried some others I have. No dice. The unit would spin up but then die almost immediately after "locking" onto a can. "Well, maybe it's the can?" I thought. I don't need to use cans very often, so I didn't have an excuse to try it again for the better part of a week. When I next used it, surprise-surprise, the unit failed to open another can. Very frustrating, as once it has "locked" on, it won't come back off. I had to twerk it and continue hitting the button. Occasionally it would make some progress and eventually I got it to go all the way around the can. If you look at the video, you can see the extended portion moving ever so slightly. The first unit, despite being totally inoperable, does not move at all when I tug on the roller like I do in the video of the second unit. Somewhere in the midst of trying to figure out how to get the darn thing free from the can, I took apart the first unit. I wanted to see how it was assembled to gain some insight into how I might be able to "unlock" the second unit. Once I had the first unit opened, I discovered how badly the inside was damaged. I'm less convinced now that it was due to the low-voltage batteries. Looks more like something bridged the two power terminals on the tiny PCB inside (see picture). When I went to return it (for a refund), Amazon's automated system offered to send me a replacement. I've never encountered this option before, so it was both a nice surprise and an encounter that made me feel suspicious. Part of me thinks that this option is proof the manufacturer or seller is aware of how poorly made these devices are. It wouldn't be the first time I've had the unfortunate pleasure of feeling as though I was unwittingly paying to be a QA person for some business. In all fairness, I don't return many purchases, so the two may not be related. Honestly, had I been forced to return and re-order another unit, I would not have entertained the idea of a replacement. I have about 30 days to return the second unit, so if the third is also bad, I'll just take them both to the store to return them. Kudos to Amazon, I guess, for getting me to take another swing. Side notes I realize there are other devices out there (ostensibly manufactured by different companies), but I don't get the impression there's much difference between any of them. The "longer" and less "bulbous" form factor seems like it would take up more drawer space, and of those, I couldn't find one that would stop on its own. Also, were I so inclined, I think I could repair the second unit with some glue, or make one working device from the top of the second unit and the bottom of the first unit. Either way, the device may have other lingering problems yet to show themselves, and I've really had it with Kitchen Mama products. If this replacement that is due to arrive doesn't perform flawlessly, I would be hard pressed to ever order anything else from this company ever again.

Very easy to use and cuts cans well without sharp edges!

This works so perfectly nearly every time. It occasionally struggled with lids that had a short lip around the side edges. However, only once did I not succeed trying the bottom edge instead. I'd guestimate it handles 95% or more lids in 1 try. Usually, if it struggles, it's because of a dent on the can's edge, a pull top lid (my arthritic hands can't pull these open either) or some other unusual reason. Buy it - and at least 6 AA batteries - you'll be glad you did!

Have had this model a little over 1 year, & do love that it opens cans on the side of the lid, leaving a smooth edge. The biggest problem they need to address is, what happens when the batteries die while the can opener is in mid-cycle, leaving the cutting blade where it is in the cycle, making it impossible to remove from the can. There's no way to pry the thing off of the can so that you can remove the cover, remove the dead batteries, & put in fresh ones. It was nearly impossible to do, in fact I walked away, leaving it on the counter to try the next day. I was finally able to pry off the battery cover, only by using excessive force and a kitchen butter knife; then I removed the batteries & put in fresh ones. It did indeed start right up & finished opening the can, BUT, because I had to use so much force to remove the battery cover, it now won't close all the way and basically is in 2 pieces. It will work, but it's certainly not ideal. These small battery driven can openers were a super invention and terrific for those of us who have no room to leave a big bulky electric can opener on a counter, but without a way to know that the batteries are ready to die, it's definitely not worth it. I'm on the hunt now for a smallish electric that will be easy to stow until I need it.

E' veramente funzionale. Anche in presenza di barattoli che hanno la linguetta (oramai la stragrande maggioranza) io sinceramente li giro sotto sopra ed uso questo apriscatole non fosse altro perchè sarà capitato anche a voi di sporcarsi o ancor peggio magari vi sfugge di mano il coperchio mentre lo tirate e schizzate da tutte le parti. Lui fa tutto da solo basta appoggiarlo sopra il barattolo e premere il pulsante. Il coperchio tagliato non sempre si attacca alla calamita alla fine o magari non sempre lo taglia completamente (ma uno su 10) , magari ne lascia un pezzettino non tagliato, ma poco importa non è questo determinante; mentre lo è il fatto che il taglio praticato sotto il bordo non rende tagliente il coperchio che si può maneggiare senza pericolo di tagliarsi. Ho preso questo modello perchè alla fine del taglio si arresta da solo. Consigliatissimo!!!

Bought for my elderly mum who is aged 90 with low vision. This tin opener is absolutely brilliant and my mum used it perfectly on the first time on a ring pull can of soup. She will no longer have to risk cutting her delicate fingers or failing to get a tin open when alone. A bit more expensive than sone others but I read the many fantastic reviews and was so impressed that I bought it. Incidentally i have now bought another one for another elderly lady I know. Thanks for a brilliant product promptly delivered.

I absolutely love this can opener. So easy to use & you do not cut your fingers because there are no sharp edges.
