I woukd like to order better anchors, what anchors do you recommend?

I would recommend hanging the device where you can attach it to a stud. Even with anchors, the drywall strength may not be enough for the weight of clothing, resulting in damage to the drywall

One wall with the little plates to hang and the other wall with the retractable base! Is very easy and friendly! My area is no more distance than 16 feet between one to the other! I think you should have an specific distance that the instructions offer to you! Read first and measure your area where you planning to install!

What size hole should I drill for anchor?

I flipped the base over and made a paper template, then put it on my wall and drilled the holes. It is very important to try to get one screw in a stud for both the base and the wire plate. Also, do not pull wire tight, leave a little slack.
