Review: I bought this for my cat. - 10/09/23 Update: My cat stopped sneezing about 3 days after turning the air purifier on. That piece on his nose fell off. He still pulls his hair out, but I don't think we'll ever get him to stop because he likes to roam the pool cage, so it probably really is random fleas making him itch and dropping dead when they land on the dogs. I tested the air purifier on Auto by vaping in its general direction... You can actually see it sucking in the vape particles and push out air. It really does kick on automatically when it detects dirty air. I had my boyfriend fart in front of it and the air quality detection went red for a few seconds. 😂 I love this. I haven't used the Quick Clean cycle for more than an hour, but I hope that someday it'll get to the point where the air isn't so dirty that it lasts an hour. ------------------------------- Don't get me wrong. I don't have allergies. I didn't buy this because I have an allergy to pet dander. I bought this because my cat has been sneezing, I couldn't figure out why, the vet says that there's no allergy test for pets so it's a process of elimination, it breaks my heart, and Vornado has never failed me in the past. I uploaded a photo of my cat's nose because it appears he's licked his left nostril off. I took him to the vet exactly a week ago and she suggested all his issues may be due to an allergy to fleas, so I gave him a dose of Revolution and put him on an ophthalmic antibiotic (the visit was for an eye issue). The dogs take monthly flea and tick medication, so our cats shouldn't be picking up any fleas, but this cat likes to roam the pool cage; he could be getting fleas in onesies and twosies from the grass through the pool screen cage, who knows. Suffice it to say I have never found a flea on him, but that could be because he's killing them before I can catch them. Eliminating the flea allergy, I decided my best bet would be to get an air purifier because this cat pulls his hair out (vet says he may be trying to remove the fleas himself and so pulls the hair to kill it and spit it out). This means that he constantly has hair floating around the rooms when the central air kicks on and his dead skin is all over the place (I have one of those $900 dyson vacuums with the laser that shows me hair and particles on the floor, but he pulls his hair out every chance he gets so it's impossible to catch it all). My theory is that he might be allergic to anything even remotely related to fleas, including particles related to their carcasses or poop. So I got the air purifier to catch those items in the air that I cannot remove with the vacuum alone. I always read the 1-star reviews before making a purchase so I can at least get an idea of what my worst case scenario would be should I have a similar experience. So far, the air purifier seems to be working just fine. I didn't know it blew out air until I turned it on. If it's taking in particles with the air, cycling it through its many filters, and spitting the air back out more clean than when it went in, I'll be a happy camper. If I notice a reduction in my cat's sneezing in the bedroom after having this run for a few weeks, I will buy one for every room in the house and three for the living room (it's a large living room with high ceilings). Any area in the house could be crawling with dead flea particles, especially if one of the dogs tracks one in, so I want my cat to know what a day without feeling miserable is like. I bought this two days ago and it arrived today. That's not long enough to judge its efficacy, so I will do my best to remember to update this review as time goes on. Review: This is the best. - I have not tried the rest, but this is just the best there is. the Multi filter system collects a lot "stuff" out of the air. I would keep it just above the stairs so that it will clean most of the upstairs, my loft and the master bedroom. My wife will use hairspray in the master bathroom, the smell and the chemicals make me gag. How dare I turn on the bathroom fan... so I kick the air purifier up to max and it will clean out the bedroom chemicals. Everytime she does a large amount of hair spray in the bathroom, the purifier's light indicating there is junk in the air illuminates orange until its cleared then its green again. you notice it before the filter, but that is nice that it does detect stuff in the air The cleaning is super easy, I am lazy and I will just vacuum the filters out. there are 3 main filters I vacuum (hose extension) the FIrst 2 and the 3rd never gets dirty. It has an auto function that seems to be generally pushing about 20%, on the power bar (fan speed). I always just set it at 70% and just leave it. It is pretty quiet until you turn it to 90 or 100% then it boosts to clear the dirty air. I get the feeling the noise is too much to put in the bedroom based on my wife, but if I put on lower setting or Auto it would probably be fine. Over all its awesome. and totally worth it. Yes it helps with allergies, and dog stuff. we vacuum up dog hair like crazy but only because it sucks air at all levels not carpet level it cleans the air and gets the floating dog stuff and not the dog hair on the floor.

My favorite air purifier out of my growing collection (sigh) in California
(See the bottom of my post for some info that might be relevant to the UV bulb issues people mentioned.) Back in 2018, my home town’s neighbor, Paradise, CA, burnt to the ground, along with the homes of many dear friends. With the sky back home blackened and the air toxic, I dove right into learning about air purifiers, along with half the state. I started with the more entry-level whole-room Vornado purifiers, and earlier this year I upgraded my home in the Bay Area to the PCO575DC. This during a rough bout of illness in February 2020 that the doctor said “*shrug* maybe allergies?” (Still wondering...). I can’t say that it fixed my illness, but it’s proven itself a highly effective air purifier. I own several many purifiers nowadays, of different models across different brands in two locations, and this is by far my favorite. First off, I love the air quality indicator. I wondered for a while if it really did anything, and then one day I cleaned up some dust off a shelf 5 feet away. Very shortly after, the purifier went into Yellow (fair air quality) mode and the fans ramped up. 10 minutes later, back to green. It’s quiet. It sits in the corner and just does its thing. More so lately, with the fires across California. The few times I have to leave a door open for more than a second, I come back to this Vornado showing yellow or red, and ramping up the fans. Gives me some peace of mind. Recently I bought an air quality monitor, which has been an informative tool. It’s given me some insight into the issues faced in my home. With it, I’ve been able to verify that the purifier indeed has helped reduce PM2.5 particles in the room during these fires. I’ve experimented just a bit to make sure, letting in some bad air into a room, verifying the air quality drop, and then running the purifier. It’s likely doing a lot to keep me healthy. I just bought a second. I’m excited to get it. NOTE: I have seen reviews about the UV bulb going out. Mine has claimed this a couple of times, so let me address it: if the front cover has been slightly lifted, it can result in the UV bulb being disabled. Some sensor is getting tripped. Replace the front panel again, make sure it’s firmly on there, and turn it back on. I suspect the bulb will be happy again. I’ve had this on 24/7 since February, without a single part going bad.
