Cheap plastic but sharpens well

I had read some mixed reviews on this sharpener but I wanted to test it for myself and I'm glad I did. I work with Prismacolor pencils and this gets them to a perfect point every time. I would have given it 5 stars but I don't like the cheap plastic. You can squeeze the sides and the plastic bends. If it were made from a harder more sturdier plastic I'd would be ok with that. For those who might be having issues with sharpening you Prismacolors, if your point breaks simply heat the pencil under a blowdryer for a few seconds and let it cool for about 15 mins before sharpening it again. This has worked for me for a few of my pencils. If not, I also use a Staedtler sharpener which is more expensive but it's a heavy metal sharpener that gives you a fine point and the blades are replaceable.

Very happy!

This is the only pencil sharpener to use with Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils, Soft Core, 72 Count!I suggest this pencil sharpner can be sold along with the Prismacolor Pencils because from the reviews the pencil sharpener that PrismaColor offers consistently breaks the soft lead pencils.I havent broke one point using this sharpener on my Prismacolor Pencils. Very happy!

Good for Prismacolor Premiere

I purchased the Soft Lead Sharpener (3083) for my Prismacolor Premieres. It works really well. I have had a lot of trouble with my Prismas cracking at the tip and the entire lead tip falling out. I don't think I am doing anything wrong - this seems to be a common problem with Prismas since the company began manufacturing them in Mexico. I have two Prisma sharpeners, and the Pro Art works much better. I have only had two broken tips with Pro Art in comparison to numerous broken tips with the Prisma sharpeners. My only complaint about this sharpener is that it does not get the lead to a super sharp tip needed for small detail work. When I need a super sharp tip, I return to my Prismacolor Premiere Sharpener. Overall, I am very pleased.

A must have for any artist who works with colored pencils or charcoal. It works phenomenally with my PrismaColor pencils, more so than the PrismaColor brand sharpener made specifically for their pencils. It also sharpens charcoal pencils without breaking them, which is a huge money and time saver.

Sharpens Prismacolor pencils to a sharp point with minimal effort

My favorite sharpener! I'd read that this was the best sharpener for the soft lead of colored pencils like Prismacolor which are known for breaking easily. For such a cheap sharpener, this slices through the pencils like butter so the shavings come out in one satisfying piece. The point does come out longer than the stubby factory points. I haven't tried it with a harder lead like a 2b pencil, so unsure how it performs there. My only concern is that as the blade dulls over time, there doesn't seem to be an option to buy replacements - I can't find a "Pro Art" brand store online. But since these are so cheap, I won't mind buying another whole sharpener.

Seems to work well for sharpening charcoal pencils.

I purchased this because my good quality sharpeners (including metal that I purchased for pastel pencils and KUM dual eraser (color/normal) were tearing up my charcoal pencils. I've already sharpened four pencils (General 's and Daler Romney) with it and it has worked well. I think the pencil quality is an important factor, but it seems to work decently even on cheaper (too soft to stay whole) pencils.I'd say it was well-worth the $4 and change I paid as an add on purchase.

Reliable and High Quality Sharpner

I purchased this sharpener upon a recommendation by another Amazon reviewer who used this sharpener especially for Prismacolor Pencils. I have had very good success with the sharpener and use it on average to sharpen/resharpen approx. 40-50 pencils per work period. I've had this sharpener for about three weeks' worth of two-four hour work periods and it's still very sharp! I have tried traditional stationary office-type metal Sharpeners, battery-operated Sharpeners, Dollar Tree school sharpeners and gone through three electric sharpeners, as well as artist-grade sharpeners that resemble this one. None of them were very good. The electric broke down rather quickly. Personally, from this point forward, I'm keeping a stock of Pro Art Soft Sharpeners rather than keep trying other brands that either ruin my pencil or don't sharpen well or break. Thanks to a fellow Amazon Reviewer, I finally have a reliable, high-quality pencil sharpener!

Bought to use with watercolor pencils and prismacolors, because regular sharpeners just shred those soft leads. Works very well on both kinds of pencils. I make custom painted dolls, and use the watercolor pencils for doing delicate work like eyebrows, so I need the tips to stay SHARP at all times! This sharpener really does the trick. Sharp points every time, with no cracked leads.

Artists friend.

A good hand held sharpener is difficult to f find, because of breaking leads and different types of leads I.e. carbon and pastel. This sharpener fits the bill perfectly.. A really good buy.

Waste of money. No different to any old sharpener from a poundshop.

This product works great.

Have had other pencil sharpeners that tend to break the lead while trying to sharpen a pencil but this one is great.

Okay

Little confused to use at the beginning, once figured it out, it is fine. Only drawback is only standard thick pencil fit in, not for all kinds of pencil.
