Have you ever wished that you could play a nice game of chess with more than just one other person at a time? It’s a great idea for groups of friends or even young families. Imagine being able to play chess against your spouse and your child at the same time. The Wooden 3 Player Chess Set is made of high quality, high contrast wood in red, white, and black. The hexagonal board folds in half and latches, providing three separate, padded storage compartments for each of the three sets of pieces. Handmade from some lovely woods and about half a yard wide, this board will add a definite “Wow!” factor to any sitting room, which is all to the good even if you don’t actually play that well.

It’s a good chess board and an interesting conversation piece but the rules for the game need better definition as there are too many variants. Personally I think the default rules of free for all don’t work well as trades leave 2 people short and 1 person up. Instead we prefer a play style where you must checkmate the player before you in turn order. So if you play white, black, red then white wants to checkmate red and wants to protect black from being checkmated by red - Black wants to checkmate white and prevent white from being captured by red - and finally red want to capture black and wants to protect white. In this method no longer do you get 2 people ganging up on one player, instead there is a push for balance at all times.

One of the latches is loose and therefore nonfunctional, though the other one is plenty to keep it closed. Padding on the bottom of the pieces are loose or not totally centered in some cases, though they don't really need it anyway. The board and pieces are lightweight so they don't feel terribly substantial, but the set looks great. Size is perfect.

Opened and open layer with my kids right away! It’s quite the adjustment, but so much fun and challenging in new ways adding a third player to the game.

This set arrived quickly in good condition in a nondescript white box similar to a shirt box. The pieces are just short of tournament size. The build quality is good as well with only minor flaws in the finish. It has the appearance of being hand made although the pieces are so consistent that I think they are not. The board squares are actually a bit small. The pieces touch the edges. I suspect it might be required on a 3-player board to fit everything. 96 cells. The felt lined storage holds the 3 sets of pieces separated loosely in each section. Rules can be found online. It is a gift so it has not yet been played on.

I bought the 11in board and I felt it was really small for its price. None the less it is an excellent board. However, this 18in board is exactly what I was looking for. Something much larger given the uniqueness of the chess set. I will be playing with my son and my father. A very special moment for the holidays. This is an excellent gift idea for the true chess lover.

My hubby taught my 8 years old how to play, and after she taught me. Now, we have 2 boards, one for 2 players (when one of us cant play) and another one for 3 players. Its really good for practice strategies, focus, and get out our kids from the screen for while. My daughter loves play and we have a good family time. The quality is great and beautiful.

First time to purchase 3 way chess, and didnt regret it! its so fun to play, and uses extra brain cells which is always good! Always out on the table to play on the go (we lay out a piece of paper next to it to mark whos turn it is)
