What is different about the gold colored bits?

The gold bits have additional hardening that is designed to allow them to withstand higher torque loads when working with wood or other construction materials.

What is the length of the total package

6-8 inches, it’s a very compact case. Great set! The tool bits are hard, reluctant to wear and round off. I’m very pleased with the set.

Without an enclosed case, is there risk of bits, sockets, or tools falling out if there’s vibration, like in a car?

The bits sit in their sockets quite tight. They are definitely not loose in my case. Probably they will sit well, however a lot may depend on severity and intensity of vibrations.
