Is there a filter or a cap to put in place of the diaphragms? I don't like the amount of unfiltered air entering the mask when the diaphragm opens.

Installed properly the valve should inhibit any exterior air from entering your mask. All inhaled air should be coming from the filter portion of the mask. The valve is for releasing pressure from exhaled air. Hope this helps.

how often do you replace the diaphram? mine seems fine, but it is a several years old.

I only picked extras up because they have a tendency to fall out and get lost. i have never changed the valves out. I have used my mask for Welding, yardwork, and all through covid.
