Confessions on a Dance Floor

Madonna's Confessions on a Dance Floor is a welcome return to what she does best--making shameless dance pop! I'm not going to review every song here, but will cover a few highlights. First a word about INSTRUMENTATION: Overall, the album has a full, almost orchestral quality. Basslines are deep, growling and pulsating. Live- and synth-strings accent Madonna's vocals, and while this is an electronic album overall, it sounds and feels very organic. Others have likened it to "Producing a Phil Spector `Wall of Sound'-style album for the dance floor"--and I agree! The much talked-about CONTINUOUS MIX of the album is done extremely well. It's not the `128 beats of unremarkable overlap between each song' that one typically hears on DJ-mix CDs. It is a more traditional, symphonic style of segueing between songs. In some cases, the songs are simply butted together and sound seamless because they share a consistent tempo and instrumentation. In other cases, a final melody from one song will carry into the next, subtly fading away during the first verse. The effect is almost unnoticeable during a casual listen, but music aficionados will find themselves listening to these transitions over and over, picking up new details on which instruments are from the previous track, and which are from the next. It's an elegant and amazing effect. Now, for the songs: Rumor has it WB is considering five singles. I'm sure you know "Hung Up" by now, so let's skip to other likely candidates. JUMP - Easily the best song on the album, and far better than Hung Up. Likely to be single #3. Madonna's vocal delivery is somewhere between "Keep it Together" and "Rescue Me", and she sells the song beautifully. It also has an incredible string obbligato part similar to the one in "Causing a Commotion." At about 120 BPM the rhythm is reminiscent of Information Society, and the tempo is excellent for dance pop. Expect great remixes in the 128-130 range on this one (Hello WB? Ralphi Rosario please!) SORRY - Rumored to be single #2. A great song which, following the more straightforward Hung Up and Get Together, has a frantic pace in comparison. Reminiscient of her "Till Death Do Us Part," but without the unhappy subject matter. This one is all fun, energy, and sass. HOW HIGH - Has that slight postpunk/pop rhythm, similar to Kylie Minogue's "Come into My World." One of the few truly introspective songs on the album, but despite being in a minor (or diminished, I can't quite tell) key, it is not the least bit depressing. It comes across as defiant. Not the sure-bet that Jump and Sorry are, but in an edited length it can be a radio hit. FUTURE LOVERS - Recreates the bubbling, pulsating bassline from Donna Summer's "I Feel Love," however here, Stuart Price deepens the bass and adds a heavier bass drum. The spoken parts of the vocal are similar to Kylie Minogue's "Light Years", but the choral vocal is much more immediate. A great song as is for clubs, but could also be a radio hit if it were tightened up a bit. PUSH - This one feels more urban than the rest of the album because of Madonna's staccato vocal delivery. It's sassy and quite catchy. With at least six single-worthy songs and others that have great club rhythms, I recommend this album to any dance or pop music fans. The continuous mix makes skipping songs unnecessary (there are at most two skip-worthy songs on the album), and appreciators of good music production should love how well this continuous effect was done.

Like (most) every other gay on the planet I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new Madge album. I admit I got a copy of it a few weeks ago from a friend but I also had already pre-ordered it.......so it's not quite that illegal, right? Anyways, the album has been utter ear-candy for me with each song catchier than the next. It's just the remedy to liven myself up within these increasingly dark times and a great reminder that we all need to have a bit of joy in our lives. Each song is like a cocaine fueled evening of laughter...... I highly recommend it. So many people hated her last album but, personally, I think it's her best. 'American Life' moved me in many ways and helped me get through a hard time in my life. Too many complained that it sounded like noise to their ears but didn't stop to really hear the actual song medleys. The music was stunning and the words....nothing like what she has written before. Beyond personal. The album further cemented my love of her ever-evolving character. I am one grateful soul to the one we call M-A-D-O-N-N-A. She's been around since I was a young lad and I still remember the first time her name was uttered to me. I remember the day that my sister, my neighbor, and I all gathered 'round the record player to groove to her songs. Time and time again she has blown me away with her visuals (let's not get into her concerts either..........other than to say WOW). Time and time again she has blown me away with her staying power. There is, sad to say, no one else like her. I'm surprised how many try to emulate her but come nowhere near what she has to offer.....and the bitch is 47!!!! I've been on other blogs that trash her and then read on these same blogs praise for the likes of Jessica Simpleton, Avril Whatever-her-name-is, Britney No-talent, etc. What do they have to offer other than their same-old, same-old brand of watered down blond bimbo? Madonna will be remembered long after she is gone from this world.....the word 'icon' comes to mind actually. I pity today's kid culture....who do they have to aspire to? I, Myself, feel damn lucky to have grown up with Madonna I mean, c'mon, this woman had a cultural impact on the world. Nobody else, ever, has gone into the territory she has in such a public way. Don't get me wrong.....others have toyed with certain themes but she balls-out embraces/promotes such ideas as: Self-expression, tolerance, change, spirituality, sexuality, WOMAN-power, so on and so on. She's taken on politics and religion.....two distorted belief systems that play a big hand in our day to day lives. Yet people try and knock her down. I don't get it. Why aren't they knocking back the people who really deserve it? Sooooo to make a very long post short......support her ass....buy her album..... listen to it as often as you please....... be happy....... enjoy life........ and let's ALL start to turn the tide of bigotry that is sweeping our Nation/ World!!!!

Per questo Album, Madonna ricevette un Grammy Award come "Miglior album dance/elettronico" nel 2007 e la dice tutta su quello che provo per questo doppio vinile rosa LIMITED EDITION che si sente benissimo. Tre canzoni per lato che mi fanno impazzire. I riferimenti ad artisti degli anni 70/80 si sentono ovunque. La copertina è di tipo FOC, aperta, dal lato sinistro i titoli delle canzoni e le rispettive collaborazioni, dall'altra una sua foto in una posizione da ballo, sdraiata con le gambe sopra alla testa. Le buste dei dischi sono semplici e bianche con il buco centrale che fa vedere l'etichetta. Ho il DVD "Confessions Tour" comprato su Amazon e di cui ho scritto una recensione, che promuove questo album, un concerto che ha generato uno dei maggiori incassi da parte di una solista e che ne dimostra la bravura e la qualità dell'album.

I love the CD a lot! 'Hung Up' is a great song with great beats and good vocals by singer/songwriter Madonna! Madonna sampled Pop group ABBA's song 'Gimme Gimme Gimmie (A Man After Midnight)' and I read somewhere that ABBA doesn't allow singers or rappers to sing or sample their songs! I also read Madonna practically 'begged' ABBA to sample their song and I am so glad they said, 'Yes!' The song gets me pumped up for a great daily workout! 'Get Together' is a good song as well as 'Sorry' with great beats and good vocals by Madonna; 'Future Lovers', 'I Love New York', and 'Let It Will Be' are all good songs with good beats and good vocals; 'Forbidden Love', 'Jump', and 'How High' are very good songs with good beats and good vocals; 'Isaac', 'Push', and 'Like It Or Not' are also good songs with good beats and good vocals by singer/songwriter Madonna. Once again, Madonna knocked it out of the ballpark with this classic album and I am very impressed with Madonna for making such a fantastic album! There was not a bad track on the album and I enjoyed listening to the album while working out! Thank you, Madonna, for making a fantastic album, and thank you, ABBA, for allowing Madonna to sample your song.

１0年近く前のアルバムになりますが、当時は良く聴き、しばらく聴かないアルバムでしたが、最近改めて聴きだしたら完成度の高さに改めて驚きました。古臭さをまったく感じさせないのがすごいです。ダンス風ミュージックなどは特に古臭さを感じさせないのは難しいと思います。 これを当時に発売していたのだから、やはり他を圧倒する魅力が詰まったアルバムだと感じております。 流したら全12曲あっという間にいってしまう感じですが、とにかく聴いていて気持が良いです。 メロディもマドンナの声も合わせたぐらいマッチしており、究極のダンスフロワーに現役で感じます。 とてもかっこよさと魅力を感じさせるアルバムです。
