Does this remote need to have a direct line of contact for it to work with the Roku or can Roku be hidden and still work?

Only Bluetooth remotes can do that and this is not a bluetooth remote. However when I was messing around with this remote testing a pile of Rokus I had, I noticed the roku was seeing it from bounce around. As in it wasnt a direct line of sight but 1 wall bounce. I was only 6ft away though.

When set to sat/cab/stream or dvr/vcr, can it control the volume on the tv without having to switch to tv mode? confusion abounds in reviews&questions

Roku users: Which button is the Roku 10 second jump back button? I see "Go Back" but that seems more like a last channel button.

The left arrow button in a circle surrounding OK button jumps you back 10 seconds, the right arrow button button jumps forward 30 seconds.In an app like dishworld.com, the top arrow takes u up one channel and bottom arrow takes you down one channel. Hope this helps..

I have a sharp smart tv and i like to watch you tube on the tv. i also have direct tv. will this operate the selections on the smart tv and sat?

Sorry, don't know for certain. I bought this as a remote for my blue ray dvd player. However, I would take the chance and say it is 90% likely that it will work.
