I've been using for a week with no results. Did it take longer than that for anyone?

Yes, it took about 30 days to completely clear till 4 weeks. Another thing is you can't use any other products until it clears up. Then you have to use it occasionally to keep it at bay. I found my flakes where due to hair products I was using. Try stopping all current products then use only this product for 4 weeks then slowly start adding back one product at a time, then you will find the culprit. Meaning all hair products, including shampoo, conditioners, hairspray, mousse or any other products you put on hair.

Is this as effective as the "red" one with Menthol in it? I have that one, but this one appears more moisturizing, which I prefer.

I went from this adequate dandruff shampoo to walmart's equate version. I found the equate dandruff shampoo about 4 times more effective. never needed anything else, so I wouldn't know about the red stuff.
