Wonderful as all of Catherine's book.

Nice read but long winded. I enjoyed the individual story's of the people in the book. The main character is extremely likeable too. Nicely written.

Really enjoyed this book.

I have read quite a few of Catherine Ryan Hyde's books so far, but never written a review. This is because my head is always so full, I can't find the words. I am stunned by the wisdom, and the loving generosity of her thoughts on the world and the people who live in it. So, sorry, but this still isn't a review. You will have to read it for yourself. It will be worth it.

Lucas and Zoe the two pivotal characters in the book. If Lucas had not taken the run in that day then Zoe would not be there to help so many lives

I am still undecided about this book. Once I started reading it I had to finish it. It was very thought provoking. The main character had a very caring nature and showed how parents needed to listen to children and talk to them.

Beautifully written account of the bittersweet brushes with mental health, addiction and suicide and the realisation we stay for others when we cannot find a reason for ourselves. Very thought provoking well written with commanding characters and deep empathy and sensitivity. As someone who lost my Dad and Brother to suicide and who has PTSD this really resonated with me and as someone who has had counselling spreads some important messages of hope and the enormous value of being there even if you say nothing. A wonderful book

I liked that it gave me some idea of how it was for American soldiers in the Vietnam war and that it was not a sad sending for the characters involved.

In the headline, I called this book "emotionally charged", because at times it will overcome you and you might find yourself tearing up or outright crying. You may feel danger and fear and then just as quickly happiness. This is because the central character Lucas is a fourteen year old boy in the late nineteen sixties who is seeing, hearing and doing things that are brand new to him. But this is so much more than a simple coming of age novel. It is a life lesson and one you won't easily forget. This is the sixth time I have picked out a Catherine Ryan Hyde book and loved every word of it. The plot is so masterfully drawn that I don't want to give a synopsis here. I think it would be better if you read it without knowing what was coming. You won't regret it.

Another great story by Catherine Ryan Hyde, love her books. Love the way the story is about caring people helping each other and the love of animals. I loved this book made me laugh and cry. Would recommend.

What a peculiar beginning to a great book! I felt like I was being counseled and challenged with every page I read! The story but me especially because my upbringing was mostly hit and miss! There was so much of life that I didn't understand and there was no one to talk to! I suffered anxiety and bouts of depression and felt there was no way I could even begin to tell someone! Staying was what saved me! I just kept staying everyday and finally finding the people who needed me to stay! Two of my brothers served during the Vietnam War and they returned to us without any outward injuries but neither one ever talks about their service! Thank you to the author for this insightful story!

not as good as previous novels-at least i did not enjoy it as much

Engaging, satisfying, completely relatable. Perfect in one word. A novel like this is a treat to read anytime. There were so many lines that I wanted to share with my so, that I decided it would be better for her to read it.
