which country was this made?

Bushnell's AR line is not made in China, it is made in South Korea and the Philippines.

why is the front lens cocked & not straight ? that is the first thing I noticed when I took it out of the box.

Nearly every single reflecting emitter red dot sight has a tilted objective lens. The emitter needs to align with where your sight plane is but you don't want an emitter Sitting directly in line with your line of sight. The emitter points upward and you'll notice the lens is angled to the same degree that the emitter is set off of the sight line.

Would this hold up to a 45-70??

Yes. I’ve used it on a AR10 no problems.
