Classic British Invasion sounds! Review: listen closely and you will hear......... - A great selection at a great price. I really needed to find the original versions for the tracks "Needles and Pins" and "Love Potion Number 9". These (2) tracks are probably the most recognizable and popular songs the band released. Listen closely from the very beginning on "Needles and Pins" and you will hear the discernable sound of the drummers' squeaky base pedal. It's pure and it's easy. Review: a great best-of - Though not as famous as other British Invasion groups, the Searchers were a quite serviceable group. Nice vocals and harmonies. "Needles and Pins" is one of the best of the bunch. "Love Potion Number Nine" - a great 60s song. Nice versions of "Western Union," "What Have They Done to the Rain," and "Twist and Shout." Great nostalgia.

Bang For My Buck
when I was in high school, my father took me to a Searchers concert. the band were excellent. most of the songs from this CD, they played. from hits such as "Sweets For My Sweets", "Needles And Pins", a song written by Jackie DeShannon and covered by Smokie, "When You Walk In The Room", also another Jackie DeShannon cover, "Sugars and Spice", "What Have They Done To The Rain", "Goodbye My Love", "Have You Ever Loved Somebody", "He's Got No Love", "Don't Throw Your Love Away" and many more. this CD contains 20 of their best recordings. this CD was released by EMI Australia in 1994. this budget priced, 20 track Australian Import has decent sound quality. there is lots of great music found here. also found on this particular is their cover of "Twist and Shout" and an obscure unreleased b- side, "I Can't Help Forgiving You". missing from this set is "My Sorrows" and "I Count the Tears". Did you know that "Sweets For My Sweet" was a song originally recorded by the Drifters? the Searchers were a great 1960's pop band and I got to meet them. they signed my Dad's LP's that he brought along. I've been playing this CD to death since it arrived and I was happy with the song selection. this is one of the better single CD Searchers compilations available today.

Excellent one-disc collection
Though they didn't make as much of an impact in the US as some other bands, The Searchers had quite a number of hits in the UK and they are just about all collected here. They burst on the scene with 'Sweets For My Sweet', which went to #1 in the UK in the Fall of 1963. They followed it with 'Sugar And Spice' which went to #2, and 'Needles and Pins', another #1. They are best known in the US for 'Love Potion Number 9', which strangely enough was only released on an EP in the UK. Over the next couple of years they had a succession of UK hits and even the departure of bass guitarist (and singer on their first couple of singles) Tony Jackson didn't interrupt their success. Their music was jangly pop, perhaps closest to The Byrds in style, though The Searchers pre-dated the Byrds in terms of chart appearance. The knock against them always was that they didn't write their own hits; their big records were covers of American songs. Still, they were a good live band (I saw them live in 1964) and chose their songs well. For anyone who wants a single-record collection of The Searchers big 1960s hits, this is the one to get.
