Burlington, Vermont author M.K. Thompson is a DJ (known as Fattie B). His first book, 'I Was A 400-pound '80s DJ' is a hilarious collection of true short stories of his time behind the decks in a small town dance club. 'I Was A 400 Pound 80's DJ' is not a book about how cool it is to be a DJ. Rather, it is a collection of short tales shared through a life-long connection with 80's music that boldly bounce from surreal to silly (all while setting the record straight on proper patron-to-DJ etiquette). While most believe a DJ's life is all 'hands in the air' and V.I.P. parties, this book is here to show the underbelly and the reality of its ugly truth. As the resident DJ of a weekly 80's dance party in Burlington for the last 17 years, Fattie B has seen and heard just about everything. Each chapter of this book begins with a few lyrics from an 80's song, followed by a short story about an experience that relates to each songs' message. As a rapper in a touring band and a DJ for over 20 years, Fattie shared the stage with such talents as: The Roots, Kool & The Gang, A Tribe Called Quest, Black Eyed Peas, The Wailers, Morris Day & The Time, Maceo Parker, Busta Rhymes, KRS-One, DJ Z-Trip, Slick Rick, Africa Bambaata, The Pharcyde, Jurassic 5, Common, Big Daddy Kane, Talib Kweli, DJ Questlove, DJ Rob Swift and DJ Revolution. Pick up this hilarious, touching and entertaining book today! Review: Five Stars - It was like walking down memory lane. Great read!!! Good job Fattie Review: Stop reading Facebook and read this book. - Having been a long time friend of the author, I couldn't wait to read his book. I found it wildly entertaining and laugh out loud funny. I cringed at the thought of some of my own antics making it into the book. But, after reading it from cover to cover, I knew I was safe. It was a great time to spend a couple of days within the author's head. A fresh glimpse into the underbelly of Burlington's finest night, through the eyes of a gifted storyteller.

DONT READ MY REVIEW! READ THE BOOK!
I will be the first to admit that reading was never my strong suite. I am a confident public speaker, but finding time to sit down and read has never been easy especially with my undiagnosed case of ADHD. Im having trouble sitting here to write this....where were we? Oh yea M.K. Thompson's "I was a 400-pound '80s DJ" I laughed, I cried, i was inspired. Being heavily involved in Burlington VT's music scene for the past 6 years this book of memoirs caught my attention from cover to cover. This book is for music lovers of all kinds. It is an eyeopener for some of the more sloppy party goers and it is laugh out loud funny for everyone else who is lucky enough to come across it. Fattie B thank you for adding to the ever growing music scene that is BURLINGTON VERMONT! You are truly talented and your passion for music is contagious. I find it only fitting that i make a request. The title also should be words of wisdom for all of your life long passions "SOS BAND TAKE YOUR TIME DO IT RIGHT" just like my man Fattie B did with this book.

I've always respected Kyle as a fellow musician and as a person. I've been a Dj myself for 18 or so years and pretty much all of these stories and observations are spot on. I'm also certain I was in the bar the night of one of the stories in there...FYI I bought new shoes the next day. Kyle is an extremely talented, fun loving and kind hearted guy who has been obsessed with music for as long as I've known him. He also tells it like it is with a generous helping of humor. While Dj'ing can be those crazy nights you see on tv or in the movies, many times those nights are the exception and not the rule, especially in a smaller city. This book tells the good, the bad and the ugly of being a Dj and definitely pulls no punches with the subject matter. It also highlights a lot of the things that it takes to become a respected musician in a local scene. It's a great read, I picked it up and didn't put it down until I was finished. Just like Kyle's mixtapes, when the last page turned I was definitely satisfied.

Step into the DJ Booth of top BVT DJ Fatty B.
What an amazing look back for this majorly prolific DJ. I personally worked many, MANY, of his Retronome nights and saw some weird and wild stuff in my short time. I mean that place is decadent and depraved, but has definitely gotten us all laid. Fatty B illuminates the highs and lows of a storied career in the VT limelight. From being roofied to "getting caught," and even wild cougar attacks. Fatty B has really seen it all. The love and personality in these pages oozes as each story gets more in depth. By the end you can feel the growing pains felt by any small town kid raised on hip-hop yearning to express their selves. Any music fan who counts the beats of the wind shield wipers and grew up watching cartoons turned all the way down but with the sounds of your favorite album blasting can relate to the stories here-in. Do yourself a favor, pick it up, read it, download one of his mixes and dance your ass off.

... skewed as I personally worked at Metronome for the better part of 5+ years
My view may be skewed as I personally worked at Metronome for the better part of 5+ years, but I cannot express just how incredible this book is. I went into this book expecting some raunchy tales, but it was so much more than that; I got an in depth look at Kyle's life. It sounds cliche, but I teared up when he talked so eloquently about his mother and laughed my ass off as he retold all the drunken mishaps and encounters. The book is a quick and easy read for anyone who is a music lover, worked in the industry, or for those of us who have spent a night cruising the dance floor looking for love. Buy it, read it, tell your friends to read it. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

The author does a great job of keeping the stories
This is one of those books you just cannot put down. I can count on one hand the books I have read in a matter of 2 weeks, this is one of them. The author has a way of painting the picture that makes you escape into the past and a world most of us have never experienced. The author does a great job of keeping the stories, concise, engaging and raw. I appreciate the honesty, the musical knowledge, the humble experiences and the descriptive rhetoric, make this a truly compelling book and collection of memoirs. I would recommend this read to everyone and plan to read it again in the future!
