I have found these lights in two different places on Amazon. I need one that plugs in. Is this a plug-in?

Yes, this is plug in pendant light(ASIN:B09Y46RG8Z).

Can you add a rod to the light to cover to cord?

Yes, It can be. But you need to other store to buy the rod you need

Confused on the dimensions. the pict shows a rod but i can't find it in your ad. how long is the rod cord cover and is it adjustable? i need a 40" rod

There is no rod with this pendant. What you see is the cord. We have two of these and they look very nice hanging. You can adjust the length of the cord to your preference. We really love these fixtures. If I remember correctly there is plenty of cord to suspend 40". Hope this helps.

How wide is the cover that attaches to the ceiling?

We ordered this in black - the cover is flat on the visible side - unlike the bronze finished one which appears to be the only one pictured. The black one measures 4 11/16" across at the center. We are very happy with this fixture. The seeded glass is beautiful. Easy install, too.
