This is a great product! As soon as i made all the connections which were straight forward, I was playing my favorite SEGA GENESIS games like a champ! Video was clean and action was smooth. No glitching at all.

Works great with the Sega master system. Sound and picture quality is great. Bring me back to my childhood.

I looked at a lot of different reviews and options for HDMI converter cables for the original Sega systems and I have to say this one checks all the wishlist boxes. I have uploaded pictures to clearly show the difference between the standard AV 480i cables and the 720P HDMI signal this converter produces. While I do not have a capture card, it's quite easy enough to tell the difference between the two, just by taking a picture using my mobile, of my HD television. I made sure to display my tv on-screen info to show the source output signal, but it's obvious the difference between the two. AV2 displays the composite signal, where HDMI4 displays this converters' signal. The improved clarity, text, and sharpness are phenomenal. And you lose the blurriness and color bleeding from the composite source. Happily, the sound being Output is also in Stereo, as it should be, and I can confirm that the left and right channels are accurate to the reproduction of the channels they're supposed to go to. I'm very impressed with the fact that you can change between 4x3 or 16x9 aspect ratio just by flipping a switch on the box. While I personally don't ever think I'll use the 16x9 stretch mode, as it changes the picture to stretch and fit to widescreen from how it was originally displayed... I like to know that at least it's there if I wanted to. While this converter comes with everything you need, including the quite generously provided HDMI cable, I also love the fact that you can choose to use your own HDMI cable with this box if you wanted to. I've also found that while it requires you to connect to a USB power source, in a pinch I found that the cable still works without the power source, however the sound becomes static-y. That being said, if you ever find the sound to become static-y... simply unplug and replug the USB power provider and the issue should be fixed. If it's still a problem, I recommend connecting to a different power source, simply because you might be getting electrical feedback noise from the device you're trying to use as power. I'm very impressed with LevelHike's warranty policy, and hope I never have to use it, as the cable I received seems to work very well, so far. I've been a die-hard Sega fan ever since the master system, and this cable has provided me the best way to connect my old systems to my new TVs. I was absolutely amazed at how great the picture looks compared to the composite cables. you might be able to find better quality converter boxes, but you aren't going to do it at this price. Unless you feel like dropping about $100 - $500+ on an all-in-one, multiple-input-source sophisticated converter box, there's nothing else to think about, just get this one. Update: I added new pictures that bear a green check that are using this HDMI converter. I added a red X for pics that are over original composite cables. I noticed the original pictures I first used didn't upload in the order I had planned them. It seemed random and I expect that again. Before you couldn't tell which picture represented what source. Now, it's visually easier, since I expect them, again, to be out of comparative order. Same review.

It works well with some caveats. For one thing, it absolutely does not work when connected to my AVR. The signal drops and comes back constantly (AVR info will show the resolution as 720p, then then blank out and show no signal and the screen goes black and sounds is lost). I suspect that either the video's refresh rate is slightly out of spec or it has a grounding issue. I have not been able to find the exact issue, but that's how it presents. It does work fine directly to the TV, but its a little annoying that this is the only retro system that I have to take the extra steps to change TV input and change audio source settings in the AVR to play. I also want to give props to the fact that this device has a switch for 4:3 and 16:9. This is not as common as it really needs to be on these kinds of devices. Many of the cheaper devices are 16:9 only and force you do make changes in your TV settings. The graphics look very good and there is only a tiny bit of latency added. It looks to me like it has a gentle filter added, but cannot be certain. It's definitely seems to have edge smoothing when compared to my SNES through it's own scaler. I don't see any signs of interlace artifacts which is good to see. I have seen many cheaper devices that use off the shelf standard definition to high definition conversion which forces the input to be an interlaced signal, even though these retro systems are progressive. This doesn't appear to be the case here. I am only switching to this because I have always been curious about outputting the RGB from a Genesis and have never in my life owned SCART TV and this was one of the most economical ways to test it. I also have a retroscaler2x and this system was going through that before along with my other systems and there was no perceivable input latency on that device. I can't notice any latency through this converter then playing something like Sonic where I do not have the level's paths and enemy placement committed to muscle memory. When I press jump it feels immediate. But when I play Altered Beast which I play much more often and is much shorter and the enemies are very predictable I more or less turn my brain off and let muscle memory take over I make more mistakes. Attacking some enemies where you have to kick at the right distance when not powered up to hit them before they hit you, I find myself getting hit when I very rarely do normally so they are getting just that little bit closer to me than when I use the 0 latency retroscaler2x. I don't imagine this will be the first choice for someone playing Genesis competitively like a speed runner, but just know you will need to adjust a tiny bit. I also find that this adds a little buzz to the sound. I have a Model 2 VA1.8 (my wife's from her childhood) that has been recapped, DIN replaced, DC adaptor replaced, voltage regulator replaced and otherwise kept as healthy as I can manage over the years. With the normal DIN to composite there is no audio hum/buzz, but does have a tiny quiet hiss for a noise floor what you have to get right up on the speakers to hear when a game is paused. This new device has a quiet buzz. It's quiet enough that I don't notice it while playing, but as soon as I pause its very noticeable to me from much further away than the normal much quieter hiss. The final quirk has to do with how you power it. The instructions are very specific that you should use the additional USB cable to power this device and that you must unplug it when not in use. The device has a problem and these instructions are their work around. The device, when left plugged in for a time frame I'm honestly not certain of, will stop working. I initially plugged in the USB power to it to the built in USB ports of my surge protector which left it powered on all the time. The very first time I used this I played it at night, went to bed and came back around noon to play again. No output at all. I unplugged it, waited a few seconds and plugged it back in and it worked. Any time it's left plugged in over night it does this. I have no idea if it will do this while playing over a long session, but it has not happened during a 2 hour play session at least. It may only be while it's not receiving a signal and has it's no signal window bouncing around it may go into an unrecoverable power saving mode. I'm just not sure. It's a little concerning. It does receive 5 volts from the DIN connector, though, which is all it needs to power on and function and at least using a 9vdc 2amp adaptor I did not measure any voltage drop on the 5 volt rail when this is running so I don't see any reason to use the USB cable and that solves the issue because it loses power when the Genesis is off and gets power when it's on. I'm overall happy with the device and would overall recommend it. I can't give it 5 starts at this price point though, as it's competitors for other systems like the PlayStation 2 HDMI converter and Wii HDMI converter I own have less issues and are the same price or cheaper.

The adapter plastic doesn't feel cheap feels kind of durable. The picture quality, colors and sound is better than expected. I let it run all night in demo mode and there's no heat issues from the adapter. Extremely compatible as it was very easy to install.

Works great - I can tell no discernible difference between the output of this and the retrovision Ypbpr genesis cable. The video defaulted to widescreen, but I was able to switch it back to 4:3 in my tv settings. One callout is that it seems like this is designed with the expectation that it’s going to be used with a tv that applies HDR to the video. With the hdr off on my tv, I could definitely see some smudginess that wouldn’t have existed on a crt tv, but turning the hdr on made everything sharpen up and it’s frankly very impressive looking. I was seeing some elements of the sonic character in STH2 that I never noticed before on the crt tv. For $35 this should be more than acceptable for most people who just want to have fun with their old consoles. Yes, you COULD get a slightly better and true image by investing in the retrovision cables and something like a retrotink, but it’s maybe 6% better and costs 4x more. All in all this adapter performed much better than I anticipated and I’m quite happy with it - hopefully it lasts a while.

I bought one for my Genesis 2, it did not work. The picture was shifted a few inches to the left, and what should have been in the left side of the image was wrapped back around on the right side of the screen. I contacted the seller and they offered to replace it. I tried the second one they sent and experienced the same results. Based on other reviews, and my own experience, this adapter doesn't seem to work with the Genesis 2 despite the seller's claim that it does.

I recently purchased the Snes version of this Level Hike HDMI cable and loved it to death so much that I had to get more of them! The Genesis cable is a steal I think because it works with soooo many devices plus for the money the picture and sound quality is unmatched in my opinion! I love the 4:3/16:9 Switch that lets me play in either mode and the cable itself doesn't make a sound! There are other cables out there for around the same price, but in my experience with them they have too many flaws. The only flaw I found with these cables so far is a slight motion blur on moving characters but it is verrrrry slight and after playing for more than five minutes it never really even bothered me anymore. I also like to use a Gam3Gear Scanline Generator in conjunction with this cable. Along with it the motion blur issue is almost completely unnoticeable and if you like scanlines it's the perfect match to this cable! PROS -Compatible with every Genesis console plus addons and the Nomad!!! -Sharp audio and picture -30 dollars is a great price -HDMI box doesn't hum -4:3/16:9 ratio switch -Powers with USB to TV CONS -Tiiiiiiiny little bit of motion blur when character moves -Doesn't make toast

Got this product moreso to make it easier to use sega genesis (II) on newer TV. I would say it was worth it for me- picture is maybe a tad clearer, wouldn't say its groundbreaking but then its still a 90s console! More importantl the connection is well made so not wobbly, and works everytime and on that I thunk its a good product. I would say it is on the more expensive side of the connections, but I would say get this over the AV connections, I have had them in the past and noticed lines on the TV, and not great picture (worse than the original cable in fact). To sum up this product- well made, clearer picture (slightly), worth investing if you play on newer tvs a fair bit, is more expensive than most other types. Overall great, would recommend

Testé avec une master system (FR), une megadrive 2 (FR), une megadrive 1 modifiée (FR-JP / 50hz-60hz). Aucun signal. Ne marche pas. Édit:Testé avec une megadrive 2(FR): Marche très bien. Image stable mais artefacts tout en bas de l’écran (les même qu’en TV cathodique). Pas de problème de positionnement de l’image. J’imagine qu’il faut modifier la console en NTSC-60hz pour avoir une meilleure image.

Funciona genial !! facilita mucho el trabajo de conexión de nuevos Smart TV a tu vieja consola retro de megadrive. Funciona de maravilla. Tiene varios modos 3:4 o 9:6 pero Si que lo recomiendo! Cómpralo!

Completamente satisfecho con el producto, cumple con creces lo que promete, no recordaba que los juegos se viesen tan bonitos desde hace años que deje de usar mi vieja tv de tubo (CRT). Desde el empaque se nota que es un producto bueno, todos los cables vienen enrollados y en su bolsita, me encanta que incluya el adaptador para la Sega genesis original, inclusive incluye un cable HDMI, todo lo necesario para empezar a jugar. Mi experiencia en general ha sido muy buena, la imagen proyectada se ve muy bien, no noté colores deslavados o demasiados iluminados, cómo lamentablemente experimentaron otros, tampoco tuve que configurar el brillo en mi tv, solo conectar y listo, esperemos fuese algún error que ya se corrigió. El poder cambiar las proporciones de la imagen de panorámica a la antigua configuración cuadrada es genial, funciona al momento sin provocar errores visuales o algo, así que debe satisfacer cualquier gusto. Y el sonido no se queda atrás, la calidad que debe ser para transportarte a la época. Probado con un Sega Genesis Modelo 1 versión norteamericana.
