The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies: Based on the Timeless Wisdom of India's 5,000-Year-Old Medical System Review: I Cannot Believe How Great This Book Is! - I was looking for exactly what the title says it is, and it is exactly what the title says it is, a pretty complete book of ayurvedic home remedies. Great index. It is great for beginners and a reference for any level of ayurvedic student. Vasant Lad's writing style is very appealing to me. It is laid-back, but informative. I feel like I am reading a book written TO ME by an old friend or relative. This is good writing. I also feel there is terrific information here. I have put into place several of the recommendations for my dosha, pitta, and am already getting great results. Overall, what I am most impressed with is Mr. Lad's writing style, so comfortable and easy to read. Mr. Lad shares the ayurvedic traditions with an air of authority whilst also managing to sound like he is letting you in on an ancient secret passed down from his family. Never, never, do I feel like I am stupid, reading this. Only that there is "this" to learn, take it or leave it, or use the information as it works best for YOU personally. This book is great and I see he has written other books, MANY other books, and I cannot wait to read them! Namaste to Mr. Lad, and to desertcart for having this book in their library. Review: Cures, not mere Symptom management - I'm still reading it, just wanted to give it five stars. Ayurveda is so special. All i'll say is my general impression as well as my impression of the doshas. You could summarize ayurveda as "removing accumulated toxins and straightening out diet", which ENTIRELY encompasses all the most down to earth successful knowledge about health The reason I wanted to talk about the doshas is that, Imagine a world where ALL you knew was what went "into" your body, how it "felt", and what "came out" of your body. That is the entirety of how Ayurveda developed, and that is a sane approach to biology, right? There are just 3 doshas, and they certainly all refer to real forces in biology. Kapha refers to structure and lubrication, which sounds very vague, I know, but in ayurveda, what kapha usually refers to is nutritional deficiency, OR sufficiency. it's not some mysterious force, it's protein, fat, metals, vitamins... Pitta basically refers to digestion and metabolism, and how to not get too hot or too. The final dosha is Vata, which basically refers to Anything That Moves to promote health. It's an umbrella term whethever ayurveda realizes it or not. It goes for Chi flow, anything that moves via the blood, and avoiding lifestyle/dietary habits that might cause pooling and stagnancy on Any level. So that's cool, right? All three doshas refer to real things, and it was a biological science that was developed without knowing how every subtle function in the body works, but nailed a lot of it. This book is worth every penny. Modern western doctors suggest to us that health is an esoteric religion that only comes at high cost, which was a joke from it's birth, and of course, pain management became a priority over curing because of one motivating factor: dollar bills. So imagine a science of healing that developed without big monies involved and over (at least) thousands of years. Ayurveda and Chinese medicine are some of the only options for cures, not mere symptom management. These medicines did not develop with the focus of symptom management. A must have for any healthy household

Bought this book as one of my texts for a Holistic Health class. It's an interesting read and a good reference for when you have simple ailments that you don't need to go to the doctor for. However, I don't think many of the herbs the book lists can be found in a large grocery chain in the US. You might have better luck finding the herbs at a small/local Indian store. Some of the remedies also depend on the person's constitution (pitta, vata, kapha), which the book gives you guidelines on how to determine which one is yours.

Very complete and easy to read. Try the paper version
I loved this book and the depth it goes to explain the magic of Ayurveda. It will be a great reference book. I don’t recommend the kindle version since it doesn’t have a table of all the diseases and medicines so when you need something you will have to scroll until you find it. That being said I’ll just share my thoughts on the fact that here in the west it seems rather difficult to implement all the medicines and treatments the book talks about. We are too used to rely in other means of healing and if you decide to commit to ayurveda just know it will take a lot of getting used to

BEST PURCHASE EVER
WOW! I had great expectations for this book after reading the description and reviews (I am completely new to Ayurveda and this is the first book I have ever purchased on the subject), and it surpassed my expectations and then some. I am thrilled to death with this purchase, and I am so thankful to Vasant Lad for putting all of this information together. My daughter, who is only eight, was soooo excited when I told her about the constitutional types (I am Vata and she is Pitta) because it made complete sense to both of us, and it helped to explain our day-to-day functioning. We are both really excited to begin incorporating the many suggestions for improving our diets and overall health. I have been on a quest for many years now to help me explain my sense of sub-par functioning (brain fog, anxiety, mild depression), and I KNEW it was related at least in part to food, and for the first time ever I truly believe I'm on the right path. An important note: I LOVE how the author stresses the importance of going to a doctor and ruling out any serious medical issues. My daughter and I both have celiac disease (we can't eat gluten), and the information presented in this book wouldn't have helped much if weren't already on a gluten-free diet. I would give everyone I know a copy of this book if I knew they'd treasure it as much as I do!

Get this book now!!!
During winter I was attacked with flu really bad and I decided to improve my health, so I purchased this book along with other book Ayurvedic Cooking with Self healing because I look at the source carefully before trusting the message, and that source is Dr Vasant Lad. He has PHD in Ayurvedic sciences from India and has tons of experience. Ayurveda is much different from western dietary recommendations, and I must say that “where science fails, Ayurveda works”. My health improved, performance improved, I started recovering really well from workouts, and I also give tips my friends and family to improve their health as well. This book has tons of information and this is my go to book for almost any health issues. I’d recommend to get Ayurvedic Cooking for Self Healing as well, as these two books complement each other very well.

A must for every home!
I bought this book originally out of curiosity. Last month I developed a kidney stone. This book helped me to dissolve it with watermelon juice and malted barley. I love both! Some of the herbs can be hard to find, thankfully they included a list of suppliers in the back of the book for everything. Or usually Amazon has everything.
