One of the great Shakespearean tragedies, Macbeth is a dark and bloody drama of ambition, murder, guilt, and revenge. Prompted by the prophecies of three mysterious witches and goaded by his ambitious wife, the Scottish thane Macbeth murders Duncan, King of Scotland, in order to succeed him on the throne. This foul deed soon entangles the conscience-stricken nobleman in a web of treachery, deceit, and more murders, which ultimately spells his doom. Set amid the gloomy castles and lonely heaths of medieval Scotland, Macbeth paints a striking dramatic portrait of a man of honor and integrity destroyed by a fatal character flaw and the tortures of a guilty imagination. A selection of the Common Core State Standards Initiative. Review: The entire play without too much ridiculous commentary and interpretation. Perfect for students! - The Dover editions of Shakespeare's plays are my absolute favorite. They clarify some unfamiliar words, but do not force their "scholarly" interpretations (which I find appallingly inaccurate in other versions) on you. Without all the blathering commentary, my students find the Dover versions more approachable because they don't appear to be so long. I hope they will always be available. Review: cheap but worthwhile - I'm using this as a more portable version of the same plays in Norton's Shakespeare by Greenblatt, which is too darn big to lug around conveniently. So I ordered the Dover plays at their cheap price for convenience. Don't let the price make you think they aren't worth much. They are great for taking notes in and contain all the information I need. I can always look online for more info if I need it. These are a great bargain. Norton's Shakespeare by Greenblatt is the best, yes, but it's seriously like 12 lbs or so....and not cheap.

Timeless
Picked this up as I haven’t read it since high school and didn’t really pay attention to the text at the time. Honestly felt like I was reading a movie. Despite its age it was a real page turned and I really understand why we’re still reading it today

Not hardcover
Pocket sized but not hardcover. My son said it should be fine for his high school Brit Lit class.

Easy to buy copies for all my students at this price
We read Shakespeare plays together for school, and at this price it’s easy to buy one for everyone to read along. Clear text, and besides a few definitions, it’s the text only. No commentary. The book is slim.

Have hand near volume control!
My only complaint is that some of the added sound effects are EAR SPLITTING in volume. I reach for the dial immediately. Too bad because the spoken words are acted out and read brilliantly. It is really annoying to listen to in those transitional parts. I have mixed sound for several recordings and this way out of line. Too bad.

Great Book, No Line Numbers
Book came in pristine condition, great purchase. The one thing I would look into about this version of the book is that there are no line numbers. But if you don't need to keep track of the lines, it's worth the extremely cheap price for this book.

Great price
I got a soft cover book that was slightly used, but I couldn't even tell. It was in GREAT condition! I needed this for a class, and this was the cheapest I could find but had amazing quality.

Wonderful
Shakespeare's finest play never fails to hit the spot for me. The characters, the scenes, every thing about Macbeth is a winner
