He has spent his entire life in juvie and various mental institutions; however, those four voices in his head are real. Aden has four souls living within him and each soul has a special paranormal ability. One soul can predict the future. A second soul can time travel. The third can possess others. The fourth cannot help raising the dead into flesh-eating zombies. Instead of being locked away, Aden now resides at the D&M Ranch in Crossroads, Oklahoma. It is a halfway house for wayward teens. For months Aden has been having visions of a beautiful girl who is filled with ancient secrets. A girl who will either save him or kill him. Aden is fending off the zombies that he had accidently animated from a cemetery when Mary Ann Gray walks by. Somehow her simple presence causes the undead to crumble and the four loud voices in Aden's head to go silent. Of course, having silence for the first time in his whole life, Aden is compelled to follow the pretty teen in hopes of learning how she does it. Mary Ann and Aden find themselves attracted to each other, as if they were long lost siblings. Yet at the same time, they feel a wild urge to run away from each other in terror. Mary Ann soon spies a large, black wolf following her everywhere. It seems to understand her words and actions. At the same time, Mary Ann is having problems with her boyfriend, Tucker Harbor, who is becoming violent and her best friend, Penny Parks, who is keeping secrets. Aden is having more problems than usual too. Dealing with the other boys at the ranch is bad enough, but then the girl from his visions appears. According to Victoria, one week ago he had attacked her people (vampires) with overwhelming energy. Her father, the king, has sent Victoria and her werewolf bodyguard, Riley, to observe Aden. Vlad would decide Aden's fate once Victoria reported back. To top it all off, vampires and shifters are not the only beings that felt the blast of energy. Aden has become a magnet for anyone with supernatural abilities. Mary Ann falls into that category too. She is a neutralizer. No one can use their magical abilities when she is near. As the four begin to form a wary alliance, things begin spiraling out of control. Crossroads, Oklahoma, is about to be flooded with all types of magical creatures and the collateral damage would be devastating. ***** FIVE STARS! Even with my long synopsis I have not touched upon even half of the plot, subplots, characters, or events. Whenever I began to believe that things could not possibly get any stranger, fascinating, or dangerous, the author would prove me wrong. As for the ending, the story does not end in a cliff-hanger; however, many threads are left dangling. The next title, Unraveled, will continue where this one stops. Author Gena Showalter has created a fascinating world with strange and intriguing characters that readers cannot help but feel drawn to. Review: Oh Yea, This is a Good Book! - One of things that I most admire about certain authors is their wonderful ability to weave a story so intricately that by the end of the book you (as the reader) discover all the different ways the characters in the story are interconnected and there ends up being some great "a-ha!" moment towards the end of the book. Intertwined is definitely one of those books! Now, to be honest here... the first chapter or so didn't completely excite me...but sometimes that's just me (who knows, maybe one of my kids had just irritated me or something) but just in case, I want to point this out because this book is totally worth it! Once the story got going I couldn't put the book down. Aden is a very interesting character and his relationship with Mary Ann is very unique in the world of paranormal romance. It has nothing to do with the fact that he is labeled the bad boy, troubled child living at a youth ranch for teen boys versus Mary Ann who is the popular, good girl with plenty of friends and the cutest boy at school for a boyfriend. The uniqueness here is that all though they feel inexplicably drawn to one another they seem to be lacking any romantic spark. But the fact that when they first see each other they cause such a power surge that it knocks Mary Ann on her butt shows us there is definitely SOMETHING going on... Paranormal romance lovers will totally gush over the relationship between Mary Ann and Riley the werewolf shape-shifter, now here we see sparks! The same with Aden and his mysterious vampire princess Victoria. Wow, there is just so much I could talk about with this book but I'll only mention one more thing :o)...the previously mentioned power surge that occurred between Mary Ann and Aden has drawn mystical creatures from all over the world ...demons, faeries, witches and of course the vampires. The ending of the book leaves tons of possibilities for the next one! Great writing, a unique and well drawn storyline make this a great read! Appropriate for 7th grade and up!

I recently reviewed Unravelled (MIRA) and realised that i didnt write a review for this so i will give you a brief synopsis. Aden is 16, he has been in and out of mental institutions and care homes his whole life and passed from foster home to foster home because everyone thinks he is crazy, and why ? Aden has 4 souls living inside his head, they have been there since birth, he cant shut them up, he cant control them and this causes quite the problem as each soul has a different ability that they use whenever they see fit. One predicts the future, another can time travel, another can raise the dead and the last one can posess other bodies. For all Twilight fans, this book is not for you, the vampires dont sparkle, but the fairies do, the werewolves arent buffed up Cherokees, and its not constantly about a love triangle. I may ruffle some feathers here, but i dare say its BETTER than Twilight, no question, the storyline's are better, there is no face grimacing at every turn, the vampires have long fangs and definitely dont eat deer, yuk, and there are also witches, zombies, goblins, and ghosts, and its not all namby pamby adolescent angst. This book is 100% pure paranormal, its sexy without having any sex scenes in it whatsoever, there is lots of kissing though and whilst its not listed as young adult fiction, its pretty much perfect for both tweens and teenagers and older ladies like myself (38). It was fast paced, very detailed and descriptive, the prowse was excellent, and the narrative flowed extremely well, i never once got to a point in the book where i though ok enough for now, i wanted to keep reading as there was always something going on and i loved it, i have already cast this movie in my head, and i think it would be a great film, or a tv show based on these books would also be very cool. I cannot fault Gena as a writer, her imagination is extrodinary which is why she is one of my favourite writers. If you have not discovered her writing yet then please buy this book, also make sure you buy Unravelled after, ive included the product link at the top of the page. Grab a blanket, curl up on the sofa, and disappear into a world you will not want to come back out of...

I started reading Gena Showalter's Lord's of the Underworld series, and expected this to feel/read the same way, it doesn't, almost feels like a different author. It starts very slowly and takes some getting into, the characters are well defined and you get very involved in the story line. My problem with this book is it never really got going, and doesn't seem to have an ending, it feels like a long introduction/stage setting for the next books in the series. Having said that I am looking forward to the next book as I want to see what happens, so it has grabbed my attention, but in a different way from her other books. would I recommend it? as a one off read maybe not, as part of a series - yes.
