The Great Kapok Tree: A Tale of the Amazon Rain Forest

Children love this story and understand the basic premise (the importance of preserving the beauty of the natural world and our environment). I highly recommend this book. It has beautiful illustrations and a great storyline.

I read this book to my children over twenty five ago. Just bought it for my first grandchild and it’s even more relevant today! The illustrations are beautiful and each picture tells its own story. Will definitely purchase again.

This book did a wonderful job of showing how the animals of the rainforest depend on each other and the resources of the rainforest to live. I love how the book left you thinking about the man in the story and his decision not to cut down the tree. I used this in my classroom as a resource to show how/why the rainforest is endangered. The pictures in this book are great and really helped my students visualize what the rainforest looks like. I would recommend this book to any elementary classroom working on food chains, endanagered animals, or saving our environment.

Vivid art work and a great story to interest kids of all ages. I actually found that my middle school students loved this book when I was teaching. I recently bought it for my 5 year old niece as it was such a favorite of mine. She loved the pictures and story, but think she will get more out of the story as she ages.

What's not to love. This book has been around forever and is still timely. Beautifully illustrated and full of rich vocabulary that is a teacher's dream this book is a perfect intro into topics of all sorts: Rainforests, Green Living, Conservation, and how all living things are linked together. I used this book when I taught school 15 years ago and just bought another copy to read to my own children before a trip to the amazon rainforest in Peru. LOVE this book.

A nice story including loads of information to even tell the little ones and the teenagers in class about the tropical forests! A must have!

Great book to teach children the value of trees, and the coexistence of everything in nature

I have used this as a read aloud in class, and also reading with a small class. It is such a wonderful book that I just bought a copy for my niece. I was reminded of it when her father said she wants to be “canopy scientist” when she grows up.

My children absolutely adore this book. We live a very healthy, conscious lifestyle and this books is ideal to accompany our lifestyle - it answers many questions as to why we do or not do certain things and makes children aware, without shocking them, about what is going on and that we have to take care of nature!
