Pacific Arc Jumbo Water Soluble Graphite Sticks Set of 3, Soft 12B, 10B, 8B

I absolutely love these graphite sticks! They are a wonderful addition to my mixed media art supplies! I completely prefer these over regular charcoal sticks & pencils. I use them to help start my paintings by making marks & lines on the canvas, along with other tools. I love that they're water soluble. You can mark the canvas & then spray certain area's to create drips & cool graphite marks, leave certain area's as is, & use a brush to change the marks to however you want. I love that the marks show through with my acrylic paint. And you can also use them to add marks anytime during the art process. It's a great way to start a new painting, as a blank canvas can sometimes feel daunting. I'm loving exploring new techniques & playing with these graphite sticks! Definitely a must for artists! And they've helped take my artwork to a whole new level.

I bought a graphite palette that did not include untinted graphite, so I wanted to add to it. These are perfect! I sharpened the 12B pencil onto a piece of paper I had folded in half, poured those into a little jar, and added a tad of water, and voila! I have a pan of graphite watercolor (MUCH cheaper than other options). Graphite is wonderfully buildable to get amazing shades of silvery grey and black. You can also use them directly on your paper, and then go over with water if you choose (it will show the silvery pencil strokes otherwise). If you let your artwork dry THOROUGHLY, you can rub it with a paper towel or kleenex to bring out the sheen. My picture is a landscape based on a colloidal film photograph (tintype is a type of this). The silvery grey suits the silver used in the photography process. I washed the canvas with some olive green watercolor to match the photo, but otherwise, it's all graphite stick. And you can see my little pot of graphite watercolor I made by shaving some stick into a container and adding a tiny bit of water, for a fraction of the cost of buying graphite pans.

I like water soluble graphite pencils and crayons. Caveat: the paper wrap does not extend to the end of the crayon and black gets on your hands if you hold by the end, as I often do.

I am a professional caricature artist hired at many corporate and private events between Miami and West Palm Beach florida. At a recent event in Fort Lauderdale, one of my colleagues recommended that I use these crayons for exceptional shading on my drawings. She let me try one of her crayons and I was sold instantly.
