Lippert Components 806621 Thin Shade Complete Window Kit for RV Entry Doors, Black

The product arrived in a damaged box, and the glass adhesive gasket had shifted slightly, which made installation a bit tricky—the glass tended to move around during setup. One of the clips was pre-connected and unfortunately broke when we tried to separate it. Based on the clip design, this is clearly intended as a one-time install. Once we aligned the frame in the window opening, it was fairly easy to secure. It took two of us: one held the frame steady while the other tapped it into place with a palm. After installation, the difference was immediately noticeable. The overall build quality is far superior to the original window frame, and the official Lippert shade operates much more smoothly than the generic alternatives we’ve tried in the past. Despite the initial challenges, the product performs exactly as expected and feels like a worthwhile upgrade.

I got the complete kit for under a $100 buck including the absolutely necessary release clips (which some say you pay extra for). The box looked like it was previously opened and was a bit banged up, but thankfully due to good packaging, all was fine. There are plenty of how-to videos and I had watched several... It was a little nerve wracking (for me). I kept thinking, what if I break the frame of the old unit and can't get the new window in, then I have a big hole in the entrance door!!! You just have to be patient and work those clips a little at a time. Quickly you'll know if the clamp releases (the clip pushes in pretty easily and you'll hear a distinct pop!). If you have to force the clip in, no good. Just pull it out and try again (and again). A few clips bent and deformed (they are plastic) so once you start pulling the old frame away, pull a clip from a released area and swap out a deformed one. You'll also need a thin flexible putty knife to break the adhesive seal in order to remove the old frame. Overall, I did the job in under an hour including time to find adhesive remover (Goof Off) to clear the opening perimeter before putting the new window in. 5 stars for the product, the look and functionality. What a transformation on my Jayco Micro Feather 171RB. I only have a teeny, tiny window over the sink at campside, and now, what a difference! I should have done this immediately after getting the unit. I no longer feel like campside is a dead end tunnel. Outstanding in every way. I can't comment on the weather tightness for rain, but I think it will just be fine.

We had a similar product in our old TT which had screws in the frame instead of being a snap frame. We had few windows on the porch side and none near enough to see any one knocking at the door. Loved the view it gave us from our recliners! When we bought our new TT, we knew we wanted to replace the door window with tinted glass and a shade. Once again, we got a TT with few windows on the porchside and none near the door. We opted for this one because it's a direct replacement of the original window and includes the special frame keys to get the old frame apart. Was looking at another style but it required drilling holes and was a lot more expensive. The installation requires 2 people and a lot of patience. Here is what we learned: - Put glass in outer frame ahead of time and secure to frame on outside with painters tape. - Put shade in ahead of time. We found the little levers to be impossible to close once they have been opened. We ended up using a quarter on the inside of the mechanism to get them to close properly and secure both sides of the shade. - The frame keys work fine to begin to get the frame apart but we did end up braking 1 tab on the old inner frame. Not a big deal since we don't really need it anymore but a little disappointing. We may hold onto "just in case" but we're more likely to sell/trade with this window/shade intact when it comes time to do so. - It is designed so the top has a bigger lip to hide the shade when the shade is open (retracted). We elected to install upside down so we can leave an 1-2 inches open overnight so we can see out without opening the door, especially if someone knocks and we haven't opened it for the day. We used to do this at bottom of our old TT, but after we'd installed, saw people doing this and wished we'd thought to do so too. We're both tall enough, so it'll be good to not have to bend over to look out the bottom any more. - Once you get the old window apart, then it's pretty easy, but definitely need 2 people. We gently smacked the 2 sides together initially, then went around the frame 3-4 times synchronized inside and out to push the same area simultaneously to ensure we got everything as snug as possible. 2 things we've learned from operating shades like these 1) the shade loses its memory of its pleats quickly. To avoid problems with this, we keep the shade open (retracted) as much as possible to keep the pleats as nice as possible. Would love to close (extend) shade during storage, mount can't because of this. 2) this shade is fairly stiff to raise or lower, it may get better with time. However I noticed that the shade rail can "flip" sideways inside the frame, especially closing/extending the shade. It's easy to fix, just be aware of this.

Excellent product! Our intrepid 190BHI is just 2 years old and the pebbled lippert glass just always looks out of place. It did not match the other smoked windows, the sun glared through it in the morning. It took my daughter and I 20 minutes to install, I had watched the Lippert video prior to ordering and did not even read the instructions. Just went for it, after we were done I read the instructions, was a good thing I watched the video. The instruction set I got did not have anything on the clip removal of old frame and the install of the new. It just covers the blind and the blind for screw in frames. We did install the blind up side down so it is bottom-up style. The blind is the same style as our other Blinds. Though the existing Blinds are a Dark Mocha the black blind the kit comes with is a good match. Will see how it lasts long term. It does seem to operate easier if you use 2 hands. As to many that complain about the screen door; having to open the main door separate the screen door to operate the blind, if is a very small effort to have shade. And it is not the blinds fault, maybe some one will come up with a retractible blind for the screen door.

This shade and tinted window kit should have been installed from the factory. Having the tinted window glass is worth the price alone, why the factory puts in opaque glass in the door makes no sense to me. The window now matches all the rest of my windows plus I can see out of it. And no more morning sun screaming in because I can close the shade! As you can see by the picture, I installed it upside down like many others so I can block the view from the outside while still able to see out from the inside. The hardest part of this install is getting the old window out. The included plastic keys worked fairly well except for 2 which just would not release the tabs inside the window no matter how I worked them. I ended up breaking those 2 inside clips but I can't imagine any scenario where I would reinstall the original glass so it really doesn't matter. Prior to install, I decided to remove the screen door which is only 6 screws. This allowed me to latch the door closed and work from the inside while my wife held the outside half containing the glass and outside trim. It would have been much harder with the screen door in the way. As far as the trim is concerned, it matched up perfectly with the original trim. The advantage of using Lippert parts on a Lippert door. The other shade sold by a similar name uses 16 screws to fasten on the inside where the Lippert kit snaps together like the original making it a very clean install. As others have stated, the weak link is the shade itself. Does it function as advertised? Yes. But it does appear rather fragile and I will have to use it accordingly. Already I have found that 2 hands running it up or down is much more preferable to simply grabbing it in the center and risk binding it. Packaging was adequate, even though the box arrived somewhat squished like the Amazon driver loaded other packages on top of it, neither the glass inside or any trim was damaged or scuffed and all 16 keys were included (unlike the other similar sounding named shade). The only complaint I have is the instructions are worthless, only covering the installing of the shade itself into the frame. No instruction whatsoever on removing the original glass or reinstalling the new glass. You Tube is your friend, lots of great videos there show exactly what to do. Would I buy this again? Absolutely! Having a dark tinted door window with a shade is a no-brainer. It should have been a factory install to begin with. UPDATE: After a year of using this shade, I stand by my complaint that the shade itself is the weak link here. Being thin, lightweight, and fragile I have found that in hot AZ heat the plastic support that fits into the top of the frame and contains the strings and thus all the weight of the pleated fabric shade will warp and fall out of the frame leaving the shade a droopy crushed mess. I have had to completely remove the shade and reform the plastic support with a heat gun to make it fit back into the frame again. Because it isn't perfect, I had to install the shade upside down and place the what-used-to-be bottom support into the top of the frame in order for it to be usable. Longevity is questionable...

I purchased a AP Products Thin Shade window over the Lippert Thin Shade because of the lesser price. You get what you pay for!! 😡 The AP Products window arrived in good condition, but the instructions were subpar and after some utube videos I went to install. Pretty straight forward since my window had screws already and I didn't need the plastic Lippert tools to remove the old window. Once installed there was excessive glue /sealant all over the outer edge of the window. 15 minutes to install and 45 minutes to clean and it still looked like crap. I bought the Lippert Slim Shade, what a difference!! Excellent packaging, clear instructions and far better quality window shade. Trust me, I had both! Buy the Lippert and run away from the AP Products. * FYI, I contacted AP Products to see if the one I received was defective or if it was normal. Todd Ware from AP Products was "0" help and instructed me to contact the seller instead of helping me with THEIR product!! Horrible customer service, inferior product, buy the Lippert!! 👍😁😉

I wouldn't recommend this option. I installed it upside down as per others have, to make it not so easy unless you're very tall, to look in from the outside through a gap now at the top. I'd recommend that much more expensive option instead out there. I installed it last spring and it worked "ok" enough. Then I left the Casita trailer sitting all summer. I had some electrical upgrades to install so I hooked up and pulled the trailer a total of perhaps 80 feet to a more convenient area at less than walking speed as most of that was backing up. Was working on my other project and decided to secure the door open then close the screen door. That's when I saw the picture included. Mine is super cheap flimsy plastic and it took a good additional 45 minutes just to get the thing back installed into shape. It's more or less junk. I figured my best option was to carefully get it re-pleated and finally left open rather than closed. Because I think heat of the sun partially caused the failure, and also sort of "ironed" in a new shape for the pleats. I'm leaving it open / down until "some other option", as this DEFINITELY ISN'T IT. Perhaps I'll contact the company as another reviewer spoke of. The plastic and pleated "fabric" more like "paper" don't hold together at all well. So this has turned out, thus far, to be a 1 season shade with a maximum total mileage capacity of 80 feet of travel on a walking speed driveway. Not acceptable. Don't like it. Doesn't work except for a few ok moments after installing. At least under optimal storage and normal conditions in S. California. Can't recommend. Wouldn't buy again. Waste of time, effort, and money. Installed fine. Didn't last. Yeah, it doesn't fit well, as one could easily look in around it up close, and it sticks when pulling down and up. And doesn't hold its shape well either. I suggest NOT installing it upside down, as it wants to drop / sag downward in the heat of the sun naturally. However, I still don't think that'd solve its shortcomings much. Just way to cheap and flimsy construction. One of my worst-ever purchases. I suppose I'll rewrite this if the company can send out an "updated version". But I'm still out the labor regardless. I just wanted to leave it closed pretty much all the time. But it doesn't even work for that. Overall, a Bummer! That I don't have time for.

We have been fighting with cold air coming in from the top of the door. In my latest attempt to seal it, I realized the air was coming from under my hand. We've had the window covered for years because the light comes into our bedroom. I removed the covering and saw that the glass had somehow fallen two inches. That's where my cold air has been coming from. We ordered this window, did a simple install, and are very happy with the result. I'm not sure about the protection afforded by a snap in window, but rv's aren't real hard to break into anyway and an attempt would give me plenty of time to reach for my...personal protection. Also, we live in a rural, conservative area where neighbors still look out for one another. But, we seem to have had a lippert window as this fit perfectly. The install is much easier with two people , but I imagine it would be easy enough for one person and some tape to hold the outer half in place. Winter is coming here and we will see how it holds up and seals, but I'm optimistic. My box was in good condition and it is packaged in another box inside that. I would recommend.

So there's a lot of reviews on here about how these come stuck together and you have to break the clips to get him apart. It's not actually true. YOu can watch a couple of YouTube videos. Or read a bunch of the other reviews with more details on how to do it.But there's these little white wedges and you can use them to pop them apart without breaking any of the tabs. I ordered two. They were both stuck together. None of the tabs got broken when we took them apart and they're now installed in my trailer and oh what a difference they make. It is so much cooler in there. Previously i had untined frosted windows. I mistakenly thought there'd be 2 pains of glass and the blind would be between them. That's not the case. There's a single paint of glass and the blind is exposed to the inside of the trailer. But I don't actually see this being an issue unless you have very abusive pets or young children staying with you. And then you may need to be cautious, but you can also replace the blind part fairly easily. It comes out very easy and can be popped back in very easy.

This unit use's "click together" fastener to "sandwich" the glass and the door frame. If not careful you can break the click tabs. The end result is very nice. Great fresh new look to RV and nice to see who's at your door. WAKING ME UP TOO EARLY. Just kidding.
