S.O.L. Survive Outdoors Longer S.O.L. Waterproof Bag Scout Survival Kit

This is an excellent personal survival kit for someone with low to average outdoor skills. Most personal survival kits on the market are either gimmicky and filled with useless junk or require a lot of outdoor skills to use the items, like making animal snares. Combine the fact that most people are rescued within the first 72 hours with the rule of three (people can generally last three hours without shelter, three days without water, three weeks without food) and it makes sense to concentrate on shelter and rescue. This kit does not have as many items as many kits do, but they are generally useful and high quality. The most important parts are the waterproof bag, Heatsheet Survival Blanket and the whistle. The mirror, duct tape and fire starter kit are nice. The compass and fishing kit are useless. I like the suggestion a previous reviewer had about taking out the useless parts and adding an led flashlight and a glow stick to make this a nice psk for kids and will steal that idea. I have purchased two of these and modified them by adding: - Stream Light 73001 Nano Light - Extra batteries - A Bic lighter - MSR water purification tablets - A Whirl Pack stand up one liter bag for water - A CRKT RSK Mk5 knife The stuff all fits, albeit barely, but it now provides the basics for several days of survival without requiring a great deal of outdoor skill. It would be nice if AMK had something like this in stock, but of course the psk could cost two to three times as much. It is also nice that it has enough space to customize. I got one for myself and after seeing it got another for my wife. The kids will get their own kid friendly version as suggested by the other reviewer as they get older.

Nice little kit with basic needs for building a fire and staying warm when stuck **update** 9/24/2017 I have had some time in the backwoods with this kit, and it is a great starter kit! The fire striker that is included will start the tinder ( you will have to expand the tinder by pulling it apart into a cotton ball type) the emergency blanket is large enough to build a pup tent with to stay dry for a day or two, possibly longer if you are careful not to tear it, and block the ends it will keep in heat from your body at the same time, whistle is loud enough to be heard to alert rescue of general location. Signal mirror is small but does its job. Great addition to BOB bag, get home bag, hiking pack, car, camping etc. Or to build existing first aid/ emergency kit. Would buy again!!

Update: I was able to contact the manufacturer of these kits, Adventure Medical Kits, and ask them to replace the two broken compasses that came with my two ordered kits. They responded to my email next day and shipped me replacement compasses the day after. They were very helpful and polite and the new compasses arrived quickly and were perfectly operational. Changing my review to four stars based on the great customer service provided by the company. I am so disappointed. This looks like a great little survival kit, with items that would actually be useful if you were lost in the wilderness. Unfortunately one of the key items, the compass does not work. I bought two kits and neither of the compasses in either kit works - they don’t point due north when laid level, actually they don’t even move - the pointer is inert. I know they are just button compasses, but I expected them to be functional rather than just for show.

Good basic survival kit. I keep mine in my fishing kit on my boat just in case. I added a few items to my kit to round it out but it started with the basics.

This was intended as a Christmas present and looked quite nice in the photos, but it is a lot smaller than I expected.

Love these little kits. Some of the items I may not ever use, but you can always pull out anything you don't like and ad something else. The basic survival stuff (Rescue mirror, fire starter and tinder) are of a good quality. I take this with me when hiking / on snow shoes in the woods or parks. A bit of overkill perhaps but I would rather be over prepared than under prepared.....

I was very surprised at the quality of these kits. They are perfect to throw in your backpack, or in the car with the first aid kit. Everything you could need for survival situations (I'm a park ranger-no lie). Very happy with these kits!

Hopefully, will never need. But, as the saying goes, better to have and not need, then to need and not have. With as small, and as light, as this is, there is no reason not to have it in your pack. Now, is it the biggest, best, have ever thing to cover everything kind of kit? No. Is it better than nothing? Most definitely.

Une petite trousse bien pratique, pas très élégante mais avec un échantillon de produits très utile. La dimension est très bonne et le contenu bien choisi, pochette étanche/couverture de survie/petit miroir /sifflet /mèches allume-feu/briquet /kit de pêche et couture/micro boussole de survie/duct tape. Un choix simple sans prise de tête put entrer el quel dans votre bardas. Utile tout en étant pas trop classique.

Delusione totale, sicuramente il rapporto qualità prezzo non è equo. Il prezzo è troppo alto, dovrebbe costare meno della metà. L'acciaierino sembra un giocattolo per bambini. L'unica cosa utile è la coperta termica. Non lo consiglio.

Adventure Medical Kits fabrica y ensambla "kits" con buenos productos, casi todos fabricados por ellos, y son de los mejores "kits" prefabricados. No lo recomiendo para usarse como "kit" principal, sugiero que se use como repuesto. De los elementos que en mi experiencia más fallan en "kits" de otras marcas es la brújula, pero en este caso la brújula funciona bien aunque es pequeña. El silbato es bueno también y puede funcionar en cualquier clima, además puede ser escuchado a larga distancia. De los "kits" prefabricados es uno de los mejores.

Love how this can fit in my backpack and not take up a lot of space. Hopefully I won’t need to use it, but nice to be extra prepared for emergencies.
