Works on my fine, straight, dark hair. Needs a lot for optimal results.
This is pretty much the only hair lightening kit I'll use. I have fine, straight, dark hair and this gets it to a beautiful pearl white shade. I will admit to using purple shampoo as a toner along with their conditioner, but nothing else has gotten my hair to the right color with as little damage as this does. It's really easy to use the kit as long as you follow the instructions, and it comes with a pair of gloves (though I use my own nitrile gloves). Everything you need is there. If you have longer hair, you're going to need quite a bit of this stuff. To get my desired lift, I use one whole bottle on my hair, then do a second round using another whole bottle. It does have that bleach smell- so if that bothers, you, you may want to look into alternative lightening options. But if you're going for that really clean platinum look- this stuff works without destroying your hair.

Easy Platinum for Experienced DIY Bottle Blondes
This review is for the Absolute Platinum color. If you have any experience doing platinum blonde yourself with bleach powder and developer, you'll know that it's messy and kind of tricky. Nothing gets your hair whiter than doing it yourself and applying the Wella White Lady toner, but it's a rocky process such that it's easy to fry your hair, have uneven spots, or even accidentally tint it purple. Salons in NYC charge you upwards of $200 for just roots and most of the time I'd leave with yellow hair I'd still end up having to fix myself. Enter Feria Platinum. I wasn't too sure about this at first, but decided to give it a shot and I love it. I am totally back to platinum thanks to the ease of use, the cream spreads really well so you get good coverage, and it didn't fry my hair. For truly white platinum you'll need to get a different toner than the conditioner in the package, but overall this is great stuff. Each time I've gone platinum it's been after having dying my hair red or black. I used this product most recently after dying my hair red (also with Feria) and I'll share how I got my results. My recommendation for doing it with this product is to first start gradually lightening your hair with a golden blonde color. If you're in a hurry, do it once a week. If you're not in a hurry, do it when you you touch up your roots, and gradually go a shade of blonde lighter. The last color I did was the Bleach Blonde which ended up making my hair pretty yellow, as expected. I wore a hat for three days and didn't wash my hair. Today I used the Platinum, putting it first on the darker strands of hair that were still holding onto the old red. After 20 minutes, I worked it into the rest of my hair, then let it sit for 20 minutes. Total time was 40 minutes. I used a disposable shower cap to cover it to prevent the color from drying out and to keep the hair "warm" from the heat from my scalp. My hair is not perfectly white on the ends, nor did I expect it to be, because of the previous red dye. It is pretty light though and only slightly yellow. I plan to use some of my Wella White Lady toner on it in a week after my hair has had some time to recover. The most important thing to remember with bleaching your hair, you need to give your hair time to get some of the oils back and to recover. Have a back up plan for how you'll wear your hair (hat, scarf, etc) while you're letting it do so, in case it's in an awkward state. If you do not have experience with bleaching your hair and your hair has been chemically treated, I highly recommend you do not use this product and have a professional do the initial lightening on your hair. If it's not light enough, that's ok, give it time and then try this product to get the final lightening once your hair has recovered. If you have really dark hair, you might need to do it twice. I'd recommend doing a test strand to see how long it takes to lighten your hair and how light you can expect this product to get it. For really even coverage in the past, I've used a full head hair dryer (one of those things that you cover your head with a cap and warm air circulates). I have naturally dark blonde hair that is somewhat fine and very oily. I like having it platinum because then it's not oily by the end of the day, and it gives my hair some texture and body (where normally it just kind of lies flat). I had given up on keeping it platinum because the upkeep was just too much for me, but since discovering this product, I'm back to platinum and happy I can finally maintain it without the disappointment of expensive and inconsistent salon results.

Lightens well. Smooth application. No chemical smell. Toner could be better.
I can't criticize this too much, as most issues are probably from my own inability to dye hair well. I will say that it lightens very well. It is not too brassy at all, but if you want it to look like the box, you really need to leave the toner they provide in for as long as needed instead of as directed, or use a stronger toner of your own for the recommended time (usually only a few minutes if it's good quality). Pros: + Doesn't smell bad at all. + Very creamy and easy to apply. + Doesn't leave your hair knotty, etc. + Moderately easy to prepare. + Clearly written directions. + Gently lightens many shades; no pain from the bleach. Cons: + Solution doesn't mix well. + Very little product; long hair will need multiple boxes. + Weak toner; dark hair may need third party addition. + Difficult to see where solution was already applied. + Does not come with an application brush. Misc: + Lightens previously dyed hair much quicker than natural hair. + Natural highlights will lighten differently depending on the shade. + Newly grown or thin hair lightens very quickly. + Provided gloves have very wide fingers. Tips: + Considering using coconut or argon oil on your hair a few hours prior to protect against bleach damage and make application smoother. + Have a plastic spoon ready to make inserting the powder easier; don't try to pour it in there as directed or else it'll be a mess. + Start near the roots but not on them. If you start too far away, there will be a dark gap between the roots and where you started. If you start too close, the roots will be significantly lighter than the rest of your hair. + Leave the toner in for as long as needed, checking every 5 minutes. Use a third party toner if you can't get the desired results with the box's. + Don't freak out if it looks dark after rinsing. The lightening won't be noticeable beyond the roots until it has dried.

Cured my quarantined blonde blues!
I’m unemployed, the salons are closed, and this product and my experience with are a major bright spot in my year. I used to get my hair done almost platinum with platinum highlights at the salon so I feel like I sort of have experience watching the right way to do blonde and knowing what “good” (and by “good” I mean “not cheap“ and expertly applied) blonde should look like when it’s done. Check out my review and tips below. Section your hair evenly before you begin. Start with dry hair. Wear the gloves. I used a dye bowl and brush to apply. The smell wasn’t bad, in my opinion. Yes, it’s hair bleach (it promises 7 levels of lift, which a stylist would probably tell you is not actually realistic for one application—but yes, this kit is bleach, dunno why other reviewers are surprised by that). Anyway, I even forgot to add the Step 3 liquid (twice) and it still worked. Apply it slowly and carefully. Buy two boxes so you will get enough coverage and enough lightening. If you have dark hair, orange is a normal outcome—you just need to use more and to do this more than once. Apply in two (or more, if needed) rounds so you don’t have the product on your hair for more than 60 minutes at a time. Keep it moist while it cures (put plastic on your head), because it will stop working when it dries out. Don’t be surprised by any orange tones, they don’t mean it didn’t work, they mean your hair is too dark to go platinum in one treatment. The conditioner included smells like roses and makes your hair soft but doesn’t have enough color in it to really help brassiness. Buy a good purple or blue conditioner to counteract any yellow or orange tones (my stylist uses Shimmer Lights, so I do, too, and I mix it with a 3-minute conditioner to get the shade I like). Overall, this worked well for me and I am one happy quarantined blonde. If you’re not super familiar with doing your own hair blonde, watch some YouTube videos before you start so you don’t make mistakes that are easily avoided. It’s hard to do your hair yourself and have it come out perfect but now at least seeing my own reflection is a joy again and anything I may have messed up can be fixed in the salon someday if needed. Highly recommend.

So far so good!
My natural hair color is somewhat medium brown. However, I have been more or less bleached blonde most of my life. Before using the Extreme Platinum my hair had about an inch and a half of dark roots in the front and sides, and the rest was more of an uneven golden blonde and quite dark in the back. I do not bleach my whole head of hair more than once a year. After the bleached hair starts to have dark roots, I usually do highlights to the front and top and let the neck and back get more dark. Yes, I know, I should go see a pro, but I am stubborn and do things my way. I decided that now it was time to just get the color as blonde and even as possible, and I am happy with the results. I bleached the darker roots for about 25 minutes first, then added the remainder of the mixture to the rest of my hair. At this point the roots looked canary yellow. After 20 - 25 minutes more I rinsed off the mixture, then left the violet toner on for 5 minutes. My hair is quite platinum, the yellow went away, probably also thanks to the toner. I can't see where the dark root growth was, both the roots and the ends are the same color now. Some of the ends are a bit more golden, probably because I they got a bit less time with the mixture than some areas. It still looks good. My hair feels soft, though I did use the coconut oli method and saturated my hair and scalp with coconut oli about an hour before bleaching. My scalp is very sensitive, and the mixture was burning a bit, but nothing too serious. Maybe if I had had more time, I would have let the coconut oli sit in my hair a few more hours, maybe overnight. I am not going to use this product every month, it is still quite strong and my scalp would disapprove. But just getting rid of all the darker roots at once and getting a beautiful, uniform color was worth it.

10+ years of PLATINUM
I’ve been using this exact box and brand for over 10 years now and I have kept up with my blonde hair ! I’ve never had any problems and it always works. I have really thick hair so I need at least two times or two boxes when I’m bleaching my roots. And I also buy the separate purple shampoo and conditioner sold by L’Oreal as well.

Nice and yellow. NOT PLATINUM
Makes hair yellow. I had dirty blonde hair and now it's light yellow. I buy this product all the time, it's easy to use but I've never achieved "platinum" from it...best it gets is light yellow.
