What's the difference in this and a pecan picker upper ?

I don’t know what a pecan picker upper is, but this brass retriever has been very useful to me.

How many casings will it collect before it starts shedding previous ones?

It depends on how fast you try to pick up casings. You definitely have to work somewhat slow and deliberate, trying to align cases with wires The answer working that way is 15-20 or so. Once a casing gets hung up in the wire, you are ABSOLUTELY correct in your assessment, it will drop cases faster than it is picking up. Would I buy it again? Probably but I would have to think about it. Hope this helps.

Do you know if what size spent brass it will pick up? .22? 9mm? .223/5.56?

It will only pick brass bigger than a .22

What material is the cage? stainless steel? spring steel?el

Just steel. Not stainless but not aluminum. Works great for what its designed to do for this price.
