EZ-DUZ-IT Deluxe Can Opener with Red Grips

My roomie threw away my Swing-a-way can opener of about 25 years, citing: the blade was dirty, and it was "OLD"! It worked just fine, and after they pulled me off of her, I went about buying can opener, after can opener for several years. I never found one that was as smooth, easy to use, or would last. UNTIL NOW! I won't know for sure about the longevity until more time has passed, but it sure is smooth and easy to use. JUST LIKE THE ORIGINAL I ran across the EZ-DUZ-IT here on Amazon, and immediately bought one. It works like the old Swing-a-way that is now made in china and does not last like the original ones. I won't know for about 5 years if this one is as good, but the first month of owning one is promising! How did EZ-DUZ-IT come to be? Looks like good old American "Know-How", might not be dead yet. A family owned screw machine business called "Steuby manufacturing" has purchased the old Swing-A-Way equipment, and put it back to work. They are now creating American manufacturing jobs, and once again making the "worlds BEST can opener". It is an exact duplicate of the Swing-A-Way in look and feel. AND, it is supposedly made with the higher quality materials of the old Swing-a-way. Time will tell. The new Chinese made Swing-A-way no longer lasts like the old American made version. I have no idea why, because it looks the same. But the tolerances, and/or the quality of the material have made the Swing-A-Way into just another throw away can opener. GREAT NEWS! There is even a company out there (http://www.sierravalleytrading.com/) the sierra valley trading company, that is honoring the original lifetime warranty of the original Swing-A-Way. If you make any purchase on their site, and you have an original Swing-A-way where the gears bind, they will do a rebuild of your original for FREE! I have not had to try to get one fixed, but a friend of mine got me a used Made in America Swing-A-way (with the made in America stamp on the metal). It works well, but occasionally it binds on smaller cans. I am going to try to get it rebuilt, and will report back on what happens. First I will try direct through the Steuby company, and if that does not work, I will try through Sierra valley trading company. In the mean time, if you have any doubts about a can opener purchase? The EZ-Duz-It is just a 9 dollar can opener. It is made in the USA, and It really is the best hand cranked can opener ever made, why are you waiting? Try it and see for yourself! You won't be disappointed.

This is the best manual can opener I have owned. It works really smooth. I have had many others and eventually they all broke where they were pressed together. I have used 2-drops of sewing machine oil and this made it work like it has ball bearings. Very good quality heavy duty and Made in the USA.

Very sturdy and has a sharp cutter. This can opener operates smoothly and requires little force - my wife loves it! It looks like it is built to last for the rest of your life.

This is the hands-down, best-in-class can opener. While the ones that "separate" the top from the can (leaving a safe edge) are something I really like, this old-school, classic, easy-to-use, and always-works can opener can't be beat. It is a beast, working on large cans and even small tomato paste cans without breaking a sweat. A very welcome change over the cheap one I was using that I got from the department store.

Sometimes simple is okay. Pros: 1. Still working after over a year. 2. Basic can opener; easy to use, hard to break 3. Goes in the dishwasher just fine, don't know if it's supposed to, but I've washed it in the dishwasher a dozen times at least and it's fine. It is important to make sure that it is dried all the way to prevent rust, since water can get trapped inside the blade moving parts and then sit there after you've put it away. Most dishwashers don't get hot enough on the dry cycle to dry stuff like this all the way. 4. Hasn't rusted or dulled noticeably, though I don't open record numbers of cans. 5. Doesn't take much strength to use, but it doesn't offer any mechanical assistance so it does require some. For this type of can opener, it is easy to use, though any manual opener is not easy if you have weak or pained hands. 6. Nice red color, as pictured and a classic kitchen appliance red (matches all sorts of red kitchen stuff). Cons: 1. Very, very basic. 2. Does not cut the lid off smoothly as a safety feature that many newer openers have-- an issue if you intend to let kids use it. This works like any basic can opener, with one safety feature people don't seem to get. Since it does not "hold onto" the lid (some openers even have a magnet that does this) or cut it off without a sharp edge, it leaves a small uncut portion so that the lid doesn't come all the way off the can, but instead hinges open so that you can empty it out. This is so that you don't have to grab the sharp lid and risk cutting your hand. It's not broken if it doesn't cut fully around the top of the can, it is meant to do that. Overall this is a good product for a good price. It works, it hold up well, and it's very basic so there's little to go wrong.

Never thought I'd see the day that I will find the perfect item that will meet up (and over) to my expectations. This can opener operates very smoothly and is very sturdy. US made will last a lifetime. Looks and feels indestructible. The Superman of can openers.

This is the best can opener... wasted so much money over the last 10-15 years on plastic fancy rubbish, wish I never went for the modern stylish kitchen stuff.

Excellent can opener - does an excellent job, especially for the price. Solidly built and virtually identical in both design and performance to my old Swing-a-way can opener that I bought this one to replace.

Forget any other can opener! Seriously who knew finding one that would simply open cans with little to no effort was such a rarity now adays, but it is. This was a lot more than I wanted to spend considering you can pick up a can opener at the local dollar store. But they never quite did the job. This thing is slick, well made, and does the job with ease. It will last forever and is the best money I have spent in my kitchen this year.
