Works great!
A friend of mine recommended that I get the Herm Sprenger prong collar for my ten-pound dog. She is a small dog who is quite yappy with people and other dogs when I take her on walks. She has a piercing bark, so it is a little annoying for others and for me. After some research, I found that Herm Sprenger is the gold standard when it comes to dog training equipment and this prong collar is no exception. This collar is high quality, well made, easy to size and adjust, works great, simple to put on and take off, and it is relatively comfortable for my dog. When she has it on, she doesn't seem to notice. Sometimes I forget to remove the prong training collar, and she doesn't have any issues with it. This prong collar can be easily put on and taken off by pinching one of the links to hook and unhook the collar. Adjusting the size of the collar was also very simple, I just removed the number of links that is needed for the proper fit. I initially removed two links in order to get the perfect fit. After giving my dog a short haircut, I had to remove one extra link since the collar would have been too loose with the new haircut. Once the hair grows back, I can easily add back the extra link. The prong collar is quite effective in controlling my dog's barking. After her first bark and making the correction with the new prong collar, she realized that the barking was not acceptable. On most walks now, after about a month of use, my dog's barking has improved over 95%. As long as I am consistent with the corrections, she doesn't have the urge or need to bark. She has really become a good dog citizen. In the photo, you might have noticed the magenta carabiner clip that is attached to a metal ring on the prong collar and my dog's regular collar. This is recommended as a safety precaution in case the prong collar accidentally comes off the dog. In that situation, your dog would no longer have a collar around his neck without having this safeguard. I have full confidence that the Herm Sprenger prong collar will stay intact, but I have read that the cheaper brands can fall apart during use with dire consequences. I figured I would be cautious even with the Herm Sprenger collar since it just takes seconds to set-up. My dog is ten years old, so it is never too late to teach an old dog new tricks. I think the Herm Sprenger is a more expensive prong collar compared to knockoffs, but I feel the quality of the collar and safety of my dog is well worth it.

Helpful Training Tool
Yes, I was absolutely hesitant to use these collars initially. I avoided it and probably "over treated" my two pups trying to train them, but maybe I was actually bribing them. I had two dog trainers recommend this collar and I understand others may not. My two pups are 7 different breeds (did the dog dna testing) and they are large dogs. They are super, incredibly sweet, loving dogs. I was afraid I would cause them to distrust me and I was afraid I would eliminate some of their loving, sweet natures by using this training collar. I was, very thankfully, so wrong. Because they are large puppies (67lbs and 80lbs), they do not know their own strength, get over-excited, and are more focused on getting what they want than on their training walks. Used correctly, and I sincerely mean correctly, they are fabulous training tools. I must also admit they are terrific safety features for me since my dogs will not take off after a squirrel or anything else while I walk them with these collars. I quickly believed all the information in the many, many YouTube videos I watched and told by the trainers I noted. These collars are a very humane way to train dogs. Again, this is only true when used properly. Admittedly, I originally figured these collars were worth a try and I did not have to continue using them if I did not want to or if I did not like them. Before I used these collars, I used harnesses that were designed to reduce pulling when walking. I would practically "fight" them trying to restrict their moving forward, sideways, or any direction they wanted to take me. My pups did not understand why they were being limited and it was a continuous battle. Truthfully, walks were not fun nor too bonding for us. Once I used these collars, they learned almost immediately that they have control over their correction. It helped them choose to walk well and focus on our walking. Yes, I heard two light yelps the very first time. Yeah, I hated it. I knew they were not hurt or choked at all. They were surprised. Do you blame them? They did not know what these collars were and they were used to tugging me along on walks. That was the only slight yelp I've heard since using them. My neck, shoulders, and back also thank these collars. Most importantly, my dogs actually like them. Sincerely. They know every time we go on a walk they wear them. I pull out the collars and they are genuinely excited. They are very well behaved on our urban streets and I get compliments for my just turned 1 year old dogs. I will emphasize one more time that the collar must be used as the training tool for which it is designed. Following the dog trainers' instructions will make these collars pleasant. It helps my dogs to know their limits, correct themselves (they have the control), and get to enjoy our walks. And, yes, I give treats with these collars on while walking when they do what I ask like sit at a corner. I really do not use the collars for more than leash walking. I noticed that using them for walks was enough for my dogs to train better with me in other settings. These collars are well made. They are strong. They are very sturdy. I appreciate that they come in black. These collars are stronger and more secure than the ones I see in pet stores. Like any training collar, they will fail some day. Because of that, I use a carabiner to connect them to their regular collar when walking. I also purchased additional hooks so that I can avoid that potential day by changing hooks out.

Wonderful !!
It’s a long read, but a good testimony: I’ve got a 7m Rottweiler & no matter how much we train & practice, he still fixates on other dogs during our walks & it was becoming hazardous for me to walk him. Because he’s still a puppy he wants to play & sees other dogs as new friends. Luckily it isn’t out of aggression, but I won’t be able to control him when he’s 100+lbs if it’s a problem now. I’ve tried many different harnesses & collars before the prong collar. This collar was the last step I’d take before hiring a dog trainer to help me break his fixation during walks. THIS COLLAR DID THE JOB!! Yesterday, during our walk, a doodle ran up on us & the leash was yanked through my fingers when he went to meet the dog half way, causing a nasty blister and abrasion. Even though I had grip on the leash he still pulled wholeheartedly to where I had to lift him up by his chest harness & make him walk on his hind legs to get home. I don’t want anything worse in the future when something unexpected happens. Today on our walk with the prong collar it only took him a couple corrections & it was like day/night!!!! Usually he likes to sniff & will rush to get to the smell, causing me to have to correct the pull, not today! I even got a video that shows two different dogs on opposite side of the street barking at us while we walked by. Before it would have been a fight to the death to get him to walk straight & not fixate. Today, a couple corrections & I never even felt a hard yank on the leash from him! I’m impressed & will recommend this collar to everyone!! I like the appearance of the collar against his black fur, less obvious & won’t cause people to assume he’s a mean dog. Easy to remove & add links for it to fit properly. Strong construction. The clasp is easy to undo & feels secure when locked. Simple enough to get on & off the neck. I can see this being a good training tool for me as well. Very satisfied with this product.

such an amazing training tool !!
this is a great product that is working so well with leash training my german shepherd. for reference my dog is BAD leash puller who will literally run in place while walking and just doesn’t listen at all.. after putting on this training tool it has made such a huge difference & she immediately stopped pulling. i got the 2.25mm since so many trainers recommended this size and i purchased extra links (in case i needed it bigger or anything) & after adjusting the size it fits well on her. also i have even tried this product on my own neck and pulled harder than anyone would on any dog and it didn’t hurt at all. this is such a safe training tool that i would definitely recommend to anyone who is trying to leash train their dog. ALSO ofc do your research on the product so you know how to properly use this product and how to properly fit it to your dogs neck before purchasing !!

Great product
Phenomenal. Quiet on dogs with longer fur, easy to use. Corrections given while heeling are very effective. Transferred my 8 year old to a pinch finally and had him walking like a professional within minutes. Clasp is easy to put collar on and take off when you’re done with obedience.

Works
Bought a hidden prong before this one, and while it was better than a regular collar for my dog's pulling, it didn't really do much for leash training. This herm sprenger is working much better so far. My dog is particularly stubborn but she's starting to get better in just two days of this one. Not perfect, but noticeable better, and most of the time loose leash walking already. She is being more conscious about not pulling my arm off like she was still doing with the other brand. This is good because she is no longer choking herself out pulling, so while a few corrections are needed here and there, it is better for both of us than the other collar. I can't speak for knock off brands and their quality, they probably all do the same job, but I went with the original and most recommended brand to avoid issues, they quality is good, and it actually works. I look forward to a future of longer dog walks, and her no longer coughing from pulling so hard she's choking herself. Four stars because I'm not a fan of the buckle design or the fact that it's in the center. I know there's another with the buckly in the back and I wish I wen that direction, but a normal buckle clip design would have been easier to use than her sprenger's designed buckle.

Best prong collar on the market!
Herm Sprenger collars are the most functional and durable prong collars on the market. Fit, ease of use with the snap on/off feature, and dog comfort when fitted correctly are all winners. Training with the Herm Sprenger collar becomes a breeze for daily training with my German Shepherd, an imported executive protection dog from Germany!

Communicates the message to the dog in dog-language, just as mother would do.
This collar is well-made. The construction is good; the prongs are rounded and smooth. This type of collar is meant to mimic the sensation of a mother dog reminding her pup to "behave." When I had an arm injury, it reminded one of my more excitable, enthusiastic dogs not to pull on the leash -- ever -- because when she pulled, she corrected herself without my having to scold or bribe or otherwise do anything. She became very mindful of rushing ahead or putting any pressure on my arm. YES, training could have taught her to walk on a loose leash at all times (even when excited) but this did the trick -- training her gently as her mother would have done. Different dogs, like different people, may learn better through some methods than others. As scary as it may look to the nervous-souls out there, it is EXACTLY like a mother dog's gentle correction, and very acceptable information to the dog, and does help some dogs learn. Be sure when you use this sort of collar, that you use just enough links to hold the collar snugly at the top of the neck, don't pull back on the leash unless you have a reason or message to convey, pay attention to what you and your dog are doing, and NEVER let the dog drag its leash while clipped to this collar. I highly recommend this collar to be used for some dogs for whom other methods don't register. Each individual has their own learning styles and needs at different points of their training. It was just what we needed at this particular point in time. (The other option was not to take this particular dog out until my arm had completely healed -- something we both would have been miserable with). We won't always use it -- it is a tool for a particular purpose and I can see that we may not need it any more -- because it communicated the message in "dog language" for her. == added comment on Dec. 1, 2015 == After a couple of weeks letting her self-correct with the prong collar, and some extra focus and verbal attention directing where she should be at certain times, she seems to have learned how to be careful with my arm. We go out without the prong collar, and she is still MUCH more attentive and aware of my needs (knows not to pull on the injured arm, not to rush me, to look at my face for confirmation before changing direction or speeding up). The prong collar has been an effective, positive tool and we may not need it anymore. Our relationship is as good as ever -- which is to say, excellent! I'd like to share this video by a professional dog trainer experienced in the use of the prong collar -- suggesting when it may be appropriate or inappropriate: <https://leerburg.com/flix/player.php/1085/Question_and_Answer_on_Prong_Collars>

Not exactly as advertised
Still lasting without any problems with the prongs there’s a possibility some people don’t know how to use this device needs to be just underneath the dogs ears nice a snuggly so it pinching the dog if pulled but I found out sooner or later 4mm isn’t necessary 3.2 is better if your dog has a 25 inch neck if your dog has a bigger neck then get the 4mm This is the 2nd one I bought off of Amazon the 1st one was exactly what I ordered this one doesn’t match up Still seems to be stainless steel and has the swivel on it at least

Works as expected.
I have a Treewalking coonhound and I have tried EVERYTHING to help with walking her. I took her to a dog trainer who recommended this product. This is amazing! I could not believe she stopped pulling and I can walk like a normal person. My only issue with this is if you are out in the elements I do find the black rubs on her white fur around her neck :(
