Good, affordable resource
I had two kids complete this book. Inside the front cover, we created a chart for passage type, number wrong, and time. It was very encouraging to at first see the number of wrong questions decrease, and then to see the time for each passage decrease. Book also highlighted that certain reading passages were weaker than others. This allowed us to tailor the program to each individual. Pleased with the results!

Good Reading Practice.
I have a tutor for my son and he was perfectly impressed with this book. He asked that my son use it to supplement his studying for the ACT. I thought it was just another book with a lot of superfluous material but instead it does give the student a lot of practice in reading.

Lots of practice, not a lot of strategy.
There isn't much you can get out here that you can't get from official reading ACT practice exams. I went through the book hoping that it would provide a different level of insight, or provide some ideas as to how to approach ACT Reading. Rather, it is a collection of author curated passages and the author's questions. The problem is that it is very difficult to mimic the exact wording and structure of standardized test questions, so from that issue alone, no book can ever match the quality of a real ACT. I ended up having to return this book because it provided no tangible benefit to me. I already have a library of hundreds of actual ACT reading passage, so adding a few more inauthentic ones wouldn't be helpful. However, if you are just looking for extra practice. By all means, go ahead.

Be careful EDITION FIVE IS IN TWO DIFFERENT VERSIONS.
Be very careful when ordering this. It appears that EDITION 5 is both an older and newer edition. I made the mistake of ordering this from two different vendors. The book, the ISBN number and editions all matched. However, when the first book arrived, it was an UPDATED VERSION WITH THE DOUBLE PASSAGES. The second book was an older version with different passages and no double passages even though the covers and editions are identical. Why the publisher didn't update this to be called 6TH EDITION I have no idea!

Passages so far appear to be similar to the real test. Lots of practice tests. Doesn't have new ACT changes - passage comparison, but still one of the best books for this subject.
