Bolero & Other Classical Blockbusters

I bought this CD for the Bolero (Id heard on radio) and I was very very happy with the rest of the music. I've always been a "brass" person, and Canadian Brass has been one of my favorites. If you like Brass, and somewhat out of the ordinary arrangememts, I think you will be very happy with this.

Bought this for a friend, 94 years old with Parkinson's disease. It was better than a get well card.

You either like the sound of brass instruments or you don't. I do. I especially like them in the hands of competent musicians playing tunes I like (mostly), I like this album.It's a hodgepodge of mostly very short pieces and not all of them are "classical" although that is the main thrust of the work. Intermixed with Handel's MUSIC FROM THE ROYAL FIREWORKS and Ravel's BOLERO you will find such pieces as the CAN-CAN or GLOWWORM. It's all very enjoyable.

Very enjoyable CD. A variety of light classical works that make this a serious or easy listening CD. The sounds of the various brass instruments on this recording are wide and varied. It is fascinating to listen to familiar works and hear the new brass voices taking the place of other instruments. Overall a lively collection that will make your day.

I love the Canadian Brass. I have other Albums and prefer the stuffier works. The group is great but the selections of songs are not exactly me.

This CD absolutely shows the absolute talent in the absolute Canadian Brass. These short little songs might be abused, but they showed the great skills the players had. The tuba was heard clearly in one of the song's end. Trombone had a lot of solo that showed hard technique, and the trumpets are surprisingly outstanding! The French horn might not be heard quite easily, but it was played fantastically good.Great recording for sure, all famous songs, and some great classical ballads.

This is a fun cd to listen to. The recording is very clear and crisp, each instrument shines. Also, the cover photo is comical. I have several other Canadian Brass recordings and I think they are all interesting. A truly talented band of skillful musicians.

Je me dois de vous dire une seule chose cet orchestre est une formation unique et faite uniquement de cuivres. et rien que des cuivres même pas un saxophone puisque c'est un bois ! Oui,oui. Nous démarrons le programme avec: Le thème d' "Ainsi parlait Zarathoustra" de Richard Strauss pour enchaîner tout naturellement avec :2- Un "allegro" de Vivaldi qui reste ma foi dans une version toute classique.3- Une "Sarabande d'Haendel" avec cette façon tout de même proche d'un classicisme maîtrisé malgré quelques arrangements.4- Vient un "Boléro" celui de Ravel, qui va d'un "imperceptiblo" au fortissimo plus académique. Mais arrangé pour ne pas trop se prendre au sérieux.5- Des ruines d'Athènes une Marche Turque, oui, celle de Beethoven : Sacrilège ? Non... on s'amuse un peu c'est tout.6- Un "Jésus que ma joie demeure" de Bach, bien sûr. Joué sérieusement.7- "Rondeau" De Mouret. Joué très sérieusement.8- Des "Feux d'artifices" Vu et corrigé...9- "Gloria" De Haydn, ma foi ce ne sont que des cuivres ...10- Un "Largo" de Haendel cuivré.11- Une Valse de Chopin, mais revue et très corrigée, une vraie raclée !12- "Le chant du toréador" de Bizet (Carmen) . Bon.... Allez on s'amuse sérieusement..13-"La Marche Turque" à 350 à la noire pris en excès de vitesse, le chef n'a plus de permis...14-"Cor Royal" de Cornelius et Berzélius réunis... Mais le cor français est formidable.15- Un air de Tchaïkovski en 21"16-"La Vase des Fleurs" du même.17-"La valse des heures" Graaaave.18- Pul Lincke "The Glow- Worm" expédié en une et dix19-Cinquante-sept secondes du Peer Gynnt20-Le "Cancan" d'une "Gaité Parisienne" d'Offenbach vite expédié en Krono.21-"Jerusalem" de Charles Hubert Parry que tout le monde connait. Non ? Ben, ça ne fait rien.22-"La Vierge de la Macarena" un traditionnel connu. Passo Doble ..23- "La Grande Marche d' Aida" Mais ce n'est pas si mal... ça fonctionne bien avec les cuivres.24-"Gaudeamus Igitur" Ah bon, il n'y a Qu'une seule personne du site qui connait ?25-"Ouverture pour H.M.S. Pinafore" d' Arthur Sulivan ( entre nous, ne le dites à personne, il s'agit d'une oeuvre de Arthur Sullivan" et ce n'est pas de la gnognotte, que non.26- Golyardes' Grounde (Macolm Forsythe)27- en finale Le très connu Farewell Anthem (Peter Lutkin) ça passe dans tous les Zénith de France et du Japon réunis.Le tout joué par :Charles Daellenbach au tuba.Frederic Mills à la trompette.David Ohanian au cor.Ronald Romm à la trompetteEtEugène Watts au trombonne !
