ESL Role Plays: 50 Engaging Role Plays for ESL and EFL Classes

This book is a great resource for any teacher! There is a wide array of role plays to choose from, and the best part is their adaptability. You can include specific grammar or other areas of focus (giving advice, expressing opinions, etc.) for a class very easily. I also like the discussion questions given after each role play. You can use some of the discussion questions to generate warm up responses at the beginning of a class or just use them (as recommended in the book) as a follow up activity. Having enough material to pick and choose from as well as pre-prepped really fun and adaptable activities is a major bonus. This book is awesome!

What a wonderful resource for teachers wanting to incorporate communicative learning and teaching into their own pedagogy. The role-play situations included in the book are presented through real-world contexts and allow students to creatively incorporate their own back ground knowledge of the given topics and portray the situations through their own cultural lens. Doing so allows the situations in the book to share and teach different cultural perspectives about the various provocative topics. Detailed lesson plans and accompanying supplemental material are included with each situation and teachers need only to minimally modify to meet the needs of the different proficiency levels of their classes. This is A MUST resource to add to any teachers' repertoire to foster engaging and meaningful speaking and learning experiences!

Good resource

This is a great book to get your intermediate and advanced students engaged in conversation. The discussion questions serve as a good warm-up activity, and there are a variety interesting and relevant topics for the adult ESOL instructor to choose from. The different role play scenarios are fun, so students can enjoy the challenge of creating their roles.

As an ESL teacher at a university in Korea, role plays are an essential part of my classes. They allow the students to practice their English in practical and fun ways. This book by Larry Pitts has been an invaluable resource for me and my students. Everything from the Warm Up to the Discussion is set up very clearly in the book which makes it very easy to understand and use. I highly recommend this book!

It's a pretty good source of role plays. But I found some of them useless.

I'm helping my niece to be more comfortable and confident having conversations in English. We even got to know each other better answering all amazing questions from it. This book is invaluable for someone who doesn't have a lot of time.

A great resource for the ESL/ELL classrooms. Easy to follow and students love it! All plays can be adapted to fit skill levels and target structures.
