Virgin box is in modem mode will this allow for multiple wired connections in modem mode or will only 1 port work still

Your virgin router does not have to be in modem mode to use this device. Think of it like a four way power extension lead at christmas. You can have routers after routers all plugged into each other. I have two of these in the house plus a couple of wireless routers. The object of putting your virgin router into modem mode is that it then allows another device to be the DCHP server. To "allocate" the IP addresses. On a network you can (usually) only have one device that does that. As this is a dumb splitter, you need to leave the virgin box in router mode. There are a gazillion youtube videos on this if you get stuck. Search youtube for something like: "router vs switch vs access point" and you should get a clear explanation of what each does and how to deploy them.

Hi. Yes, a LAN cable goes from internet router to the TP link, then multiple LAN cables can go from the TP link to devices like PCs or laptops.

Will this work with a bt router

It's a LAN switch and should work with any router that uses LAN cables. My home networks uses four LAN switched to connect multiple devices, with two daisy chained and they have worked with three different routers of different makes so far.
