I've damaged the USB for this keyboard - does anyone know how I can order a replacement USB?

No. That's the simple answer. The USB wireless port is hardware keyed into the supplied keyboard and/or mouse, and their values are entered into your computer's registry. If you have all 3, keyboard, mouse and USB wireless, they are all keyed together. If one item breaks, they rest are worthless. Plus, once it's been installed on a computer, the computer will only recognize that particular keyboard & mouse. So even if you tried to use a new USB port you got from somewhere, it wouldn't talk to the other devices you have. The only option when one item breaks is to replace all 3. I am stuck with multiple K,M,USB sets that won't work, even on a new computer. I am finished with the MS product and recently switched to a model from Logitech. So far so good.

Does this work with the microsoft surface pro 4

Not sure about Surface Pro 4 as I have never used that but I can say the Sculpt Comfort keyboard (I pack the mouse away and use a Logitech M570 trackball) is the best I have ever used. (I'm left handed) (The split spacebar on the bottom allows the left side to be set as the backspace rather than the backspace key at the top right.) Much better for my correcting mis-strokes when typing too fast. The 'hump' in the keyboard is not as extreme as some ergonomic keyboards which is fine (I learned on typewriters back, way, way back in high school). Anyway I highly recommend the keyboard and ignored the mouse.

Is the keyboard loud when you type? in other words is it a soft touch like silicone?

Is not as soft as silicone but it is a soft touch, it does not click when you are typing!

How do you power off the keyboard?   Two possibilities.   1.)  pull the batteries, like the other responder suggested.   Or 2.)  Don't bother, which is what I do.  Like you, I was concerned about lack of keyboard power switch when I got mine.    I bought mine on Feb 11, 2015.   It is my main keyboard, and I am at the computer all day every day.    I think I may have pulled them once when I was away for a week, but it just doesn't matter.    After almost 10 months, I'm still *only* on my second set of batteries.
