You Are My Heart: A Joyful Book for Children About Unconditional Love (Gifts for Kids, Gifts for Mother's Day and Father's Day)

This book is a sweet and honest exploration of the live between a mother and her child. You may by this book to read to your kids when they are little, but you will want to remind them if it over and over again throughout the years. You are my heart is one of my absolute favorite read aloud. And now I live to add it to baby shower gifts and am saving my first copy to read to my grandkids some day.

Maybe I'm just a sap who loves her kids too much, but I couldn't read this to my children without crying. If you're looking for a book that sums up how much you love your child(ren) in an eloquently rhymed fashion, this is it! Just for reference my kids are ages 12, 10, and 5 and they all enjoyed reading this book with me. We are a close-knit family, so this book was a real treat. And for those who may not necessarily be close-knit, I recommend this book to help you get closer with your children. It really does put into words the things we feel as parents that some may not necessarily communicate to their kids on a daily basis. It is an easy read, consequently making it quite a short read, which is always nice for the more restless type of kiddos out there. Though written by a woman, I assure you there are no specific references to motherhood, leaving this book a perfectly viable option for single fathers and fathers belonging to the LGBTQ community. The illustrations also show both fathers and mothers, though not together in the same pictures, therefore not directly enforcing a heteronormative narrative. There is only one illustration showing two parents together, one being a female; but you cannot see the other parent's head nor face, leaving it up to interpretation for the most part. (I personally imagined the unidentifiable parent was another female.)

I had this book gifted to me with my first and it quickly became a favorite of mine. I now order it for every baby shower I am invited to, I love to gift the sweet message and how truly it encapsulates parenthood.

Such a sweet book. The words that flow and rhyme are perfect for any parent who wishes to speak their love to their little one.
