You should never put quality knives in the dishwasher. The documentation that comes with the knife tells you not to do this but that's not specific to this knife. Any knife with quality steel and a sharp edge will be degraded, over time, by the heat cycles and the detergent. Knives are like the easiest things in the world to clean anyway. Wipe with sponge, wipe with towel, and you're done. Knives don't ever collect anything that is hard to get off (or if so then you're using it for something you shouldn't be).

Is this knife made in Japan?

If it was really made in Japan, then Japan may as well do a hara-kiki with this knife. Iam in the market forthe kitchen knife and in the last couple of months I tried a couple of dosen of them, openly made in China, Made in Japan and pretending to be made in Japan. Knifes, made in Japan is not advertised this way, they aren't packed in the fancy papers and false "sandal" wood boxes and they always have every bit of the surface polished, wood or metal. This is 100% false product with the false ad technic. Just check the ads by real Japanese companies like Shun, for example. The philosophy is different, ther approach is different and the knifes are different. The only thing this knife has, which makes it look like "made in Japan" is the price. By the way, there no words "made in Japan" anywhere on the package or the knife. Just send it back.
